Freedom Smog - Front desk - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Manteca, California

On March 1st, 2021, I took my Sierra C2500 truck to Freedom Smog for a smog test. The technician's name was Joseph Gutierrez. He came out and told me that the truck passed smog but that he had checked the Turbo online and that it was IHI remanufactured replacement Turbo, not approved for California vehicles. I tried to tell him my truck was bought new and that the Turbo has not been replaced, that it was stock. Because He refused to check further, I had no other choice then to spend more money ($58) & went to A/C Automotive to see if I was wrong. I explained the issue to the technician there, he looked at it and said that it was stock with all original turbo egr, no after market parts. Performed the test and gave me the smog Certificate. I went back to Freedom Smog and asked to speak to Mr. Gutierrez about a refund, he said that he didn't care what the other place saw or did, that I could take it to the Bureau of Automotive Repair & let a referee decide. I did take it to the BAR and on April 1st, 2021 they ruled in my favor. I have called Freedom Smog several times to get the refund I deserve, but as of today May 5th, 2021 I have received nothing. It's really sad that they can get away with charging for something & not have to give a refund you when its found in your favor. I first came in here for smog check at price of $99.00. My old car failed the visual inspection but pass the smog admission test. I asked the person behind the desk if the smog retest is free. He said yes. So, I came back for the re-test 2 weeks later and the same person behind the desk now told me that the smog retest will cost $48.00 because my car was before 1999 or older. The shop did not not keep their word. read more

Got at location just before opening time, 8am. It's now after 9 am, and no one has showed up for work. Doors are still locked tight. Customers come to a business for a service, not to sit and wait for the manager/employees to show for work. I watched 2 other customers leave because they were tired of waiting. The waiting room is air conditioned and has a TV to watch while you wait, and a lot of Military items to look at and read. This the only place that I go to for smog checks. Took the vehicle in late December to get it smart for re-tag. The men at the register were aware that I knew nothing of vehicles and had failed my vehicle for multiple issues. Try to get a resmogged, and their machine was down. For three weeks. When I finally took the vehicle back in it had extended past the three months. And they wanted to charge us for a full re-smog at $109. The gentleman that I work for as well as myself are veterans and have proof of such. Freedom smog did not care and charged us at full charge. It's disgusting that this place that claims to be for veterans takes advantage of veterans and tries ripping them off for as much money as possible. Great customer service!!! Fast and friendly service! I first messaged the company and requested a quote. Immediately I received a response from Christina, who was very nice and informative. It's was nice to message a human being and not a program issuing automated responses. I took my car in for a smog check and to get a certificate for the DMV. I did not make an appointment and did a walk-in so I had 4 cars ahead of me, however they are super quick. They did all this for me in about 30 minutes. As a veteran, I chose Freedom Smog to perform a smog on my vehicle because of their support for our military and convenient location. They offer free smogs to active military and have a coupon match statement on their website in VERY LARGE text saying they match ANY coupon. Upon entering the building and presenting a coupon for Lathrop/Ripon smog at $19.99, the employee said "that's iffy. Ill have to ask my boss." He then offered me a $29.95 coupon. Why would I pay $29.95 when your website clearly states you match coupons. I declined and asked that he check with his boss. He returned and said they couldn't do it. Don't say you'll do something if you won't. That reflects poorly on you, your character, and your business. I hope this post inspires Freedom Smog to either stand up and support what they say they will, or remove the statement from their website saying they will match coupons. I guess it doesn't really matter that your car passes all the emission tests they do, if you have any replacement parts, their not gonna pass you. As if it isn't expensive enough to live in CA, you gotta make sure you not only have the correct emissions, but also that everything appears original. Went in today for a smog and all I can say is it was a wonderful experience. For one, it's 100 degrees today, and the waiting area had an AMAZING air conditioner Dustin greeted us and was extremely helpful as I only had a photo on my phone of the registration information because I left it at home. Back story - After 4 LONG months, replacing my catalytic converter (that was brand new), getting into a car accident, extension on expired tags, car in shop during the entire extension, new EGR Valve, new vacuum modulator, lots of money & TONS of frustration my car finally passed!
