I had a problem after upgrading to Windows 10 whereby my graphics drivers had become unresponsive and my function keys for the brightness of the screen didn't work anymore. My regular IT guy couldn't fix it, the Microsoft Store couldn't figure it out, and and I was dreading the prospect of having to reset my machine. My Lenovo Ideapad is 9 years old and it was getting to be very slow. I took my laptop to Ron and asked him to "decrapify" my computer and see if it would take an extra 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Lenovo states that the maximum RAM the Ideapad can take is 8 GB. Ron said he had plenty of RAM and if he couldn't add the RAM there would be no charge. Thankfully he was successful in adding the RAM and I now have 16 GB of RAM. I think Lenovo purposely understates the upgrade path for the Ideapad so people will purchase the more expensive Thinkpad. Ron also informed me that my Western Digital 7200 RPM hard drive was failing and recommended replacing it with an SSD. Naturally I said yes and he did that too. Now it is like I have a brand new computer. It boots up in 12 seconds compared to 150 seconds previously. The man is truly gifted when it comes to computers. He is also very honest and very fast. I recently managed to spill half a cup of coffee on my laptop, which absolutely wrecked my keyboard and left me brokenhearted. I can't recommend Ron highly enough. Possibly the best service experience I've ever had given circumstance. I brought my laptop to Ron as there was a problem with the power port. Turned out I had fried the motherboard when trying to fix it myself. It wasn't worth it to fix given it was an older computer. Ron was generous enough to lend me an old laptop and even transferred my hard-drive over so that I could have access to all my old files while figuring out what to do next. I ultimately got a new laptop and returned the loaner to Ron. When I asked how much I owed him for all the trouble - he said $0 given he couldn't fix! Very recently I spent close to three hours at the Genius Bar, Burlingame Apple Store, with the need to retrieve my iPhoto library dating back to 2003. My Mac desktop is a 2007; and when iPhoto converted to Photo a few years back, I lost my library archive. The Genius Bar tech informed me that I needed to downgrade from El Capitan to the Snow Leopard operating system, which meant erasing all content from my computer. Genius Bar could not help me. End of story. They referred me to two local computer tech shops, neither of which responded to my repair inquiry when I reached out by voicemail. I am a librarian, and all about finding people who can help. I found Ron Gravatt in San Carlos, who is a gem! -- utterly competent, respectful, and personable. I contacted him to repair the port connector on my Dell laptop. His communication was very timely and friendly. He researched the model and let me know that the power connector on this model is not on the main board, so the repair would not cost the standard (reasonable) power connector charge, but only an hourly rate. He said the connector is on its own little board, which was likely what was loose, preventing my laptop from charging. Ron resurrected my Sony laptop that would mystifyingly shut down immediately on startup. It had valuable files that I needed access to, and I had no desire to take it to Geek Squad or some other impersonal service. Ron was very accessible, got right back to me, and was able to quickly diagnose the problem (a broken power jack). The fix involved pulling the motherboard and installing a new jack, and the cost was only a little over $100. What a relief! I wish I had called Ron months ago.
