Freely is another gem in South Tempe. My wife and I love taking friends and out of towners here because of the fantastic beer selection, delicious food and overall friendly, modern vibe. Freely boasts 30 diverse beers on tap, including sours and local drafts. My current favorite is That Brewery's Strawberry Blonde. It's a deliciously, mildly strawberry flavored beer and you can drink a few pitchers without coming up for air! We've just begun ordering food at Freely and thus far we're overly impressed! The Elote and Pep Cups flatbreads have both been memorable. Whoever their chef is deserves some free beer during work because the bread and the toppings are among the best we've had! We've also enjoyed the Charcuterie Board and plan on running the table on the menu. Lastly, the staff is great. They really enjoy talking with you and will happily change a channel, so that you can watch a sporting event. A little different in that you go to bar and put in your order, like normal bars, aka no table service - so order your drinks and wait for them; they will bring the food to your table though. This is totally fine. Wonderful gal behind the bar explained stuff, had recommendations and made air feel welcome. The flatbreads are super tasty and perfect for sharing. Decided to try the new spot in the neighborhood and I am glad we did. More or less a fast casual concept with a very (over 20) impressive tap offering and a decent wine and drink list as well. The food was a bit of a surprise. The humus board was a plentiful offering of vegetables and a house made bread for dipping and scraping. The flatbreads were extremely tasty. I had the èlote flatbread and it was fantastic. We also had a prosciutto flatbread and it was equally as tasty. We chose to sit at the bar which is full service and we had plenty of attention. We stopped here for lunch today, the owner Paul met us St the door explained the procedure, grab a menu, decide what you want to order then step under the chandaleer and order. Right now they have started with wine and beer, but will get spirits down the road. Ordered two of the flat breads and the were excellent and presented very well, they both tasted fantastic. I wanted to like this place. If you want to go and just drink, it's fine for that. The patio is nice and it's cute inside. But the appetizers were meh. I was starving when I got there but not so much once I started eating. The food turned me off. I didn't try the pizza but we had the meatballs, the queso, caprese skewers, and mozzarella sticks. The sauce for the meatballs and sticks was like they just opened a can of stewed tomatoes and poured it on the plate. NO flavor whatsoever. The mozzarella sticks were black. The queso was INCREDIBLY bland and the chips were like cardboard. Likely won't be going back unless they change cooks. Oh, and $11 for a glass of wine that is one of the smallest pours I've seen. Get a little more in the glass next time. read more
