We were sent to Little Smiles in Grand Haven from our regular dentist of 7 years for tooth…read moreextractions on my very sensitive child. Our dentist suggested Little Smiles for sedation dentistry and when we were at the initial consult appointment we were told Little Smiles didn't to sedation, but they use medication before the procedure to relax the child and then administer nitrous gas during. I wasn't sure that would work for us and the dentist sent us home to think about if that was what we wanted to do or not. A few days later we received a call to schedule the procedure and I told the scheduler we didn't want to because we decided we wanted sedation for our son. The scheduler said the paperwork confirmed the procedure was under anesthesia and she said he would be sedated. So, based on our conversation with her, we scheduled it. The day of the procedure we again brought the issue and importance of sedation up to the dentist before they gave my son liquid Valium first thing. It was very busy with pre-op paperwork to sign and questions to answer. Dr. Katie never directly answered the anesthesia/sedation questions, but it very much seemed like my son was going to have a surgical procedure with sedation. While I was signing papers, the assistant gave our son Valium. He was very out of it and then they proceeded to require him to sit still while they scanned his mouth for a space maintainer for after the procedure. It took three times longer than it should have, the assistant was frustrated with our son, and our son was growing agitated because he was disoriented and fighting the Valium while trying to follow directions from the staff. Then they made my son, who could hardly sit in the chair walk to a new room where the procedure was to take place. Talk about a parent's nightmare! They had braces around the edges of the door to reinforce the door...so the child couldn't get out or parents couldn't get in, I'm not sure...they put my son in a large velcro wrap so his arms were pinned down and they sent us out to the waiting room, but before that we confirmed that he would be sedated...and that is when they told us they don't do sedation dentistry but he would be fine! I should have stopped everything right there! What actually happened was my husband and I went to the waiting room and left my son in there with Dr. Katie and the assistant while they removed his teeth. When we got back in the room about 10 minutes later, my son was hyperventilating while strapped down to the gurney, blood all around his face and mouth, crying and shaking and begging "please, I just want my mom, please let me get my mom! Why can't I just see my mom?" When we took him off the table he was pale and in shock. He was shaking and coughing on his own spit and blood and Dr. Katie and the assistant, with cheery faces told him "see, you're fine, all done," and sent us on our way. When I say my son was in shock, I don't mean he was a little phased, I mean he was in clinical shock. The final insult came with the bill. Before they would do the procedure, Little Smiles made us pay the balance not covered by insurance up front. We did that. 6 months later I receive a bill asking for almost $300 more and an invoice that clearly shows 1) they ended up billing us for more than they quoted, and 2) they did not apply all of our money paid up front to the charges. Getting anyone to answer or call us back from the billing department is almost impossible as well. And as for my son, he is TERRIFIED of the dentist even more than he ever was. He had nightmares for MONTHS afterward. The experience we have had from start to finish with this dentist has been nothing short of a nightmare for us. I wish we had never set one foot in their office, and I hope nobody ever has to experience what my son went through.

They think it is so cool that they have a kid sized door, a play hour, kid toys, etc. The office is always clean and welcoming. The office definitely caters to kids on every level. The staff is always awesome - the hygienist are so good with the kids and engage them while working quickly but thoroughly. They help make it relaxing and fun. Dr. Kim is so nice and always talks to the kids and asks them questions to make them comfortable and engage them, as well. They do allow for parents to come back and sit near their kids if they need to, this has helped my boys a lot! I have always felt comfortable and confident in the care they receive here and do not feel pressured to do anything that is above or beyond what they need. They always have a full prize bucket for the kids to take from when they leave, too - always a hit! I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for a dentist for their children - such a great place to get them familiar and comfortable at the dentist.

I am beyond thrilled with Dr. Kim. He is truly so caring of his patients. He talks my daughters through what he is doing and constantly is checking in with them, " You doing ok? * the whole time he is working on them. SO KIND. . He is so proactive with his conversations and approach to dentistry which is very comforting to my husband and I. We had a dental emergency a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday. I called the emergency number and within 5 minutes Dr. Kim returned my call. He is patient, kind. caring AND thoughtful. I highly recommend his office to all parents!

DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM IF YOURE VISIBLY QUEER AT ALL , TO ANY DEGREE! staff gives weird looks and gave high schooler energy as soon as you turned away. the doctor guy also has an ego, i flinched in pain once and he said "you shouldnt be doing that, you need to raise your hand if youre in pain" ... my body involuntarily shook in a moment of pure pain, because he was drilling and i could feel everything.... it's common for people with EDS to need more anesthesia than "normal" and he made me feel like i was lying about my pain!!!

We were told at previous appointments that he was now an established patient at this office, and that we could come back to this office for further care, but that's apparently not the case anymore; leaving my child with no dentist or care. This office knew my child would need braces in the very near future, and that was why we went with this location, and now they're leaving him out with no care; even after becoming an established patient.

What a practice, and what a wonderful dentist!…read more Picture being on vacation, on a weekend, during a snowstorm, and having your 12-year-old crack their front tooth in half! After a quick Google search of "dentist near me," I stumbled upon Dr. Chris Mountford and the Mountford & Ruszkowski Family Practice. Dr. Mountford called me back immediately. Within 45 minutes, he opened up his practice in his snow gear and with his son in tow. My son's tooth was treated and put back in place within an hour. Dr. Mountford did an excellent job. The tooth looks like it never happened. We will always remember his kindness. If you are fortunate enough to live in the area and are looking for a dentist, I highly recommend!!!

Office policy was to wear a mask, and that was very much appreciated. These kids were not old enough to be vaccinated and it was appreciated that their welfare was looked out for. After checking in we sat for a few minutes until a gal (not sure what her role was) came out and got the kids and took them back for their cleanings. Both of the kids went back at the same time and I waited out front. I (and my daughter) appreciate the fact that they encourage the kids to be independent and not rely on mom (or grandma) to hold their hands. This was not the kids' first appointment and they knew the routine. While they were doing their thing I used the restroom, and once again I was impressed. They actually had a little toilet and little sink for the littles. Things sure have changed since I took my kids to the dentist so many years ago. After the kids finished up they were brought out to me and I was given a brief explanation of what had taken place.....no cavities! The kids were happy, I was happy, it was a great experience.

The office itself is clean, and the staff were always friendly and professional during our visits. Unfortunately, our overall experience took a very disappointing turn. We missed an appointment due to severe weather. The office later scheduled another appointment that we were unaware of, and when we did not attend, we were charged a missed appointment fee. Shortly afterward, a report was made to Child Protective Services alleging medical neglect. As a licensed healthcare provider myself, I take my children's health and well-being extremely seriously. The report was both shocking and upsetting. From my perspective, the situation could have been handled with a conversation to understand what had happened or to ensure our family was okay before escalating to such a serious action. We have since transferred our children's dental care to a practice much closer to home that better meets our family's needs. While I appreciate the cleanliness of the office and the kindness of the staff, I cannot recommend this practice based on our experience. Families deserve communication, understanding, and an effort to resolve scheduling issues before assumptions are made and actions with potentially significant consequences are taken.

I met one of the dentists very briefly and he seemed nice. My hygienist was very friendly and got me in and out so I could head back to work. Everything felt safe and clean.
