    Big Buckeye Burrito

Came here on a nice sunny day and sat on the patio outside. The burrito I had was huge and honestly better than I had expected. The menu included many other options such as tacos, quesadillas, salads, and bowls. There is also a large selection of salsa and hot sauces to choose from that were self serve so you could try many different kinds. This was fun to mix and try the different flavor combos. The service was pretty fast and everyone seemed nice and willing to help. Would come here again.

Nice place in the little downtown next to Kent St. University. We went here since my daughter didn't like the other place in downtown we went to last time we visited the campus. Service was pretty fast. The chips and guac were good. The place is full of energy and modern which is somewhat out of place for the "vintage" downtown look. My daughter ate her cheese quesadilla. I ate both of my baja fish tacos. Really good. Restroom was clean. I bet this place is packed after bar close on weekends, assuming it's open.

It's good but not great. Typical chips and salsa bar but had to keep going up for refills since they only give you a little bit at a time. Tacos were ok, nothing special. Atmosphere was nice and clean.

The tacos here are average. There's not a lot of flavor. What I do like is they have a little bar of salsas so you can get whatever salsa you want and as much of it as you want. What I don't like are the corn chips they're pretty flavorless. In addition the staff is subpar on friendliness.

Fresco is one of my favorite casual Mexican spots in the area. I come here with friends all the time for a quick bite. They have fresh ingredients and really kind staff. They have a great mix of vegetarian and seafood options too. I usually get their Cheese Please Burrito ($5 burritos on Wednesdays) or one of their seafood tacos. Their fried fish is super crunchy and delicious. I also love their grilled and blackened shrimp. They are super flexible you can mix and match protein types.

Baja perch and mahi mahi tacos. The only two I'd order again.

My advice would be to get any of the fish tacos. Both the Baja fried perch and grilled mahi mahi tacos were good, especially with the spicy creamy sauces that were on them. The rest of the tacos we tried were just okay. The steak taco barely had any steak in it, and the chicken tacos were pretty bland for my liking. I like the salsa bar and it's a cool spot.

Management went above and beyond to have a happy customer. Thank you!!!

The tortillas and meat were cold. Kids took a bite and questioned if they were actually tacos. Can't believe management went above and beyond to have a happy customer. Thank you!!!

    HALF quesadilla

I am sooooo jealous of all the walking distance dining and shopping Kent State students now have. I was wandering around the newer part of downtown Kent when I needed lunch and stumbled upon the corner-located Fresco Mexican Grill & Salsa Bar. The menu mostly consists of tacos, quesadillas and salads. WOWZA, the half portion of a quesadilla is huge. I made the mistake of ordering a full steak quesadilla because it was inexpensive and was so shocked at how big it was. The prices are so reasonable for the portion sizes and they include chips and salsa (from the salsa bar). But, something about the salsa bar just didn't do it for me. I basically watched tons of college kids coughing and hacking then taking salsa from the open air salsa bar. That part definitely wasn't for me. That's not the restaurants fault, that's just me being scared of getting sick. My steak quesadilla was very fresh but needed a bit more flavor. Next time I come, I will try ordering something different. Several kids seemed to have giant tacos which looked delicious! People constantly cycled in and out of this huge fast casual restaurant and the staff did great at keeping things moving. Fresco is an inexpensive, quick option if you're in the area.

The cocktails are creative, balanced, and reasonably priced -- I had the hibiscus mezcal margarita, which had an incredible depth of flavor. For my main, I ordered the Cena de Tacos, which comes with your choice of two out of five sides. I went with a creamy corn bowl and a side of Mexican rice -- both rich, flavorful, and comforting. My wife ordered the shrimp bowl with rice, which was just as delicious. What really stands out here is the authenticity -- every bite tastes like it was crafted with care and respect for traditional Mexican cooking. The interior is classy and modern, yet relaxed enough to feel comfortable. I also love the thoughtful touch of their craft beers being named after social justice initiatives. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Despite the restaurant being nearly full -- she was quick to serve. If you're looking for genuine Mexican flavors served in an elegant but welcoming setting, Battleground is a must-visit.

But alas, I don't think we will return to The Battleground. The service was awkward. The hosts and our waiter were, for a lack of better words, socially awkward young men dressed like they just left school and may have tossed their backpacks behind the hostess stand. It was a weird contrast for the slightly upscale prices and interior they present. The waiter seemed nervous, which, in itself isn't a bad thing, but they awkwardly lingered when it wasn't necessary and was hard to get their attention when we needed our check and to pay the bill. The food and drinks were a mixed review. The Battleground margaritas were delicious. The chips and salsa were not great, we mostly got a basket of tortilla shards. My partner got three tacos--carne azada, al pastor, and fish. His big takeaway was, "they're not very hot (temperature) and they're kind of bland." Similarly, we got the margs "spicy," but my Texas palate said, "this is spicy?" It had a tajin rim, from what I can figure. ...Maybe we're not the normal Ohioan clientele. A bright note, the refried black beans and esquites were awesome and the esquites big enough to share. I ordered the Pescado Veracruz, the plating and sides were good but the mahi mahi was chewy and only slightly above room temperature. Like I said earlier, maybe I did myself a disservice by hoping to find my new favorite Mexican restaurant... but, I just don't see us going back for great margaritas and sides.

Coyote's Mexican Grill & Cantina - #3 vegetarian combo - missing bean burrito

Chips and salsa were available for free, and they brought out a side of coleslaw, which I hadn't seen before at a Mexican place. I had the lunch special steak quesadilla, and it was delicious.

The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated with just a bit enough funky touches without going overboard. Not a lot were there, so I was seated quickly in a booth. Chips, salsa and coleslaw quickly appeared on the table. The chips were ok, the salsa was very bland and one not even after adding hot sauce. The coleslaw was what you expect and adds a nice contrast to spicy food. Since I had a certificate for $30 I was planning on getting a lunch and an entree to go for the next day. I ordered the Lunch Chili Relleno and the Camarones a la Mama Goya. My server returned shortly to let me know that the Chili Relleno was not available; a real disappointment since this is one of my favorites and its a great way to judge a Mexican restaurant. After reviewing the menu I picked the #3 Vegetarian Combo. The combo came out looking very good mainly due to the colorful bean tostada, but I quickly realized that the combo was missing the bean burrito, after talking to my server they brought it out on a separate plate. The vegetarian combo of bean burrito, bean tostada and cheese enchilada was mediocre at best; the beans were very soupy without a lot of flavor, the burrito was very plain, just beans in a tortilla topped with cheese sauce, the enchilada had a decent sauce but not much cheese and the tostada at least had some lettuce, tomato and guacamole to add some interest. Overall not very interesting or exciting. I do give Coyote's credit in that they did a nice job of doing the to go order, everything was nicely packed separately, they included chips and salsa and a cup of the coleslaw. The Camarones a la Mama Goya are shrimp with zucchini, squash, onions and tomatoes well cooked and pretty tasty. The beans and rice were ok, the to go beans were actually thicker and worked well as part of the meal. The shrimp meal was pretty good and the portion was good enough to make two meals. I was looking forward to trying Coyote's, the lunch was disappointing and the to go shrimp was OK, overall the rating is about 2 1/2, just alright but nothing special. Of course you may have a much different experience. Not the type of place for you if you are looking for anything cutting edge or for big flavors.
