The grilled cheese quesadilla was enjoyed & the kids burritos ($4.50) were great.. grilled, super cheesy & beefy. Had a couple bites & wished I got this instead of my power bowl. My chicken bowl was fine as expected but a bit too healthy since I got lettuce & no rice. Plus the way ingredients are grouped (like bibbi-bop) the flavors don't mix & cheese doesn't melt on chicken like it would in a burrito. If the chicken was grilled it woulda added to the texture & flavor as well. Next time I'm getting a grilled burrito. Kids drinks are a good price at 1.50. The only thing we miss is the black bean soup that they used to have. Still nice they have the salsa bar. Owner is so nice & place is well kept. read more

Delicious, we always hit this place up when in Kent. Everything is so fresh, great variety, love the salsa/condiment bar of course. The kids love it too. Came here on a nice sunny day and sat on the patio outside. The burrito I had was huge and honestly better than I had expected. The menu included many other options such as tacos, quesadillas, salads, and bowls. There is also a large selection of salsa and hot sauces to choose from that were self serve so you could try many different kinds. This was fun to mix and try the different flavor combos. Nice place in the little downtown next to Kent St. University. We went here since my daughter didn't like the other place in downtown we went to last time we visited the campus. Service was pretty fast. The chips and guac were good. The place is full of energy and modern which is somewhat out of place for the "vintage" downtown look. My daughter ate her cheese quesadilla. Fresco is one of my favorite casual Mexican spots in the area. I come here with friends all the time for a quick bite. They have fresh ingredients and really kind staff. They have a great mix of vegetarian and seafood options too. I usually get their Cheese Please Burrito ($5 burritos on Wednesdays) or one of their seafood tacos. My advice would be to get any of the fish tacos. Both the Baja fried perch and grilled mahi mahi tacos were good, especially with the spicy creamy sauces that were on them. I am sooooo jealous of all the walking distance dining and shopping Kent State students now have. I was wandering around the newer part of downtown Kent when I needed lunch and stumbled upon the corner-located Fresco Mexican Grill & Salsa Bar. The menu mostly consists of tacos, quesadillas and salads. WOWZA, the half portion of a quesadilla is huge. I made the mistake of ordering a full steak quesadilla because it was inexpensive and was so shocked at how big it was. The prices are so reasonable for the portion sizes and they include chips and salsa (from the salsa bar). But, something about the salsa bar just didn't do it for me. I basically watched tons of college kids coughing and hacking then taking salsa from the open air salsa bar. That part definitely wasn't for me. That's not the restaurants fault, that's just me being scared of getting sick. My steak quesadilla was very fresh but needed a bit more flavor. Next time I come, I will try ordering something different. Several kids seemed to have giant tacos which looked delicious! People constantly cycled in and out of this huge fast casual restaurant and the staff did great at keeping things moving. Fresco is an inexpensive, quick option if you're in the area. read more

Can't believe I waited so long to try this place! I wasn't sure which category this fell into, it's kind of fast food, kind of sit down. I had the Buckeye burrito with chicken and my husband had the Erie Street burrito bowl. Both were delicious. Pros of this place are as follows: Fresh, salty chips like at a Mexican restaurant, not from a bag. Awesome salsa bar clearly labeled so sissies like me know to avoid the hot ones. Seemed well kept and fresh. An array of hot sauces at the counter to add to your meal. Quick service, we got a second batch of chips no Problem. Good looking menu, I'd like to try the fish tacos and one of the quesadillas on future visits. Cons: none that I can think of after this first visit! You see, I'm a burrito girl. And most sit down Mexican restaurants don't offer a big burrito on the menu that you pick up and hold, they're usually on a plate covered in queso. And while I enjoy chipotle from time to time, it's commercial. I've always been a fan of Kent's own Taco Tantos for burritos, but the small place can get packed if you go at the wrong time and I'm not huge on takeout. Plus, chips and guacamole or queso cost extra. So for me, Fresco now trumps them all by offering all the good menu selections and including the chips and salsa bar with each option. My wife and I visited this upbeat eatery and were delighted to find a Mexican grill that offered more than burritos and bowls! The ordering process can be a surprise after waiting in line only to find no menu on or above the cashier. (You have to make your choice from their trifold takeaway menu before ordering.) My wife ordering the Low Carb Burrito bowl and I tried the Grilled Fish Tacos. The bowl arrived in a square shaped dish filled with chips with the good stuff hidden in the center! She found her dish fresh and enjoyable. It is difficult to find good (non tilapia) fish tacos in Ohio, but Fresco in Kent hit a home run! Three flour tacos later I wanted more! They also have an ample self serve salsa bar and three tier platform of specialty hot sauces for the adventurous. Had family in town to visit and was so excited to take them as it's one of my favorite spots - only for all of our burritos to miss half of the ingredients. We ordered the buckeye burritos to go and when we got home none of the burritos had sour cream or the pinto beans. I have been to Fresco a number of times since it opened in the new downtown Kent development with a mixture of good and "meh" experiences here so let me explain in more detail the +/-'s. +The place itself is hip and colorful. The atmosphere is probably the best thing about Fresco and they really outdid themselves on this criterion. + Their chips are pretty good. Not Quoba-awesome but are definitely better than most chips I've had at nearby "Mexican" sit down joints. +I really like their grilled fish tacos. They come along with some special tangy cream sauce so make sure that if you do end up ordering the fish tacos, put the sauce on it. Otherwise the tacos will just be "OK." +They do have pretty decent daily specials. I usually come in on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I do for reduced taco prices & a burrito deal. +The service and managers are very friendly! -As someone before my review posted mentioned, their ordering system is very odd and confusing. They don't have the menu on a wall, and instead have it in 2 locations by the door and by the ordering station printed out in almost "to-go order" formatting pamphlets. I would be interested to know their reason by doing this method instead of putting it on a wall that would be simpler for people waiting in line to order to look above and see the options. -Today when I came, I was waiting for 5 minutes to order. Two patrons had just ordered in front of me, and I can completely understand only having 2 people working the kitchen and ordering station together is difficult, but I was very close to walking out the door before they noticed me standing there waiting. -The salsas are just not good. They appear to look really tasty, but they just don't get the flavour profiles down right at all. Also, their "hot" salsas are mild in comparison to the hot salsas of a nearby competitor. I can understand Midwestern taste buds are pretty tame, but if you cannot get the taste & texture down right, then your salsa is at a loss. Overall, I think Fresco is a very good establishment, and I hope they listen to their patrons and their experiences. I think they're doing well in several categories, but some improvement needs to be tended to in their food quality & ordering system to go from a Good to "GREAT" place to meet with company whether it be for lunches or late nights. read more

I have never eaten at a Fresco, but I would compare it to Moe's Southwest Grill. They have tacos, burritos and a salsa bar. I ordered the taco salad and it was delicious with lots of toppings. I opted for the creamy cilantro dressing, rather than the spicy dressing that comes with it. The food comes out fast and the place was clean. Parking may be a little difficult since it's downtown. read more
