    the interior of a restaurant

I was so excited to try this place out! In true me fashion, I scoped out the menu before coming in which did not help let me tell you, I just wanted everything off of the menu. I popped in on a Saturday for a late lunch before getting on with my errands. Several places to sit, very clean and calm. I decided on the Carne Asada Fries. The lovely lady checking me out asked if I wanted some chips and salsa to which I said yes. Who the heck says no to that? The chips are lovely and made in-house and the salsa was mild. Then came out the fries and I knew...I knew I made a mistake. Not in my order, oh no because let me tell you I drooled when I saw them. No, the mistake was coming to eat on my own. Because these fries were on a plate that was larger than my head. THAN MY HEAD. For $11.75. Is your mind blow? It should be. Do I regret my choices? Heck no! But yea just a heads up, ginormous. Now how did they taste? Delicious. The toppings were numerous but not overwhelming. Guac, sour cream, meat, tomatoes and onions, creamy green sauce (it has a name but it escapes me...), I was here for all or it. Everything was well-seasoned and balance. I had to figure out how to re-heat them since I could not, in good conscious, actually finish them in one sitting but that's not a bad problem to have. The question isn't should you come here, the question is why aren't you here already.

Tried Mamacita's today for lunch. Had Baja fish tacos and my wife had he cali Street tacos. She enjoyed hers but we both felt the chicken could use more seasoning. I am a big fish taco fan and was very happy! The building is a small space across from the university with three booths and a window bar. Also a few picnic tables outside.

Utterly disappointing. We got takeout from here because some of our friends had really liked their food. We ordered a couple of tacos some wings and an order of nachos. Starting with the bad review do we can end on the less bad...I don't think that's a term... moving on! The tacos were baaaad. The carne asada was not spiced/flavored At. All. It tasted like I was chewing styrofoam-flavored chewing gum. On the tacos was supposed to be diced onion and cilantro. Well, I did get 4 little dices of onion, and about that much cilantro. That obviously didn't help flavor my styrofoam gum. The buffalo wings were just ok. The size was good but they didn't really taste like much. Nachos were ok. They were kind of flavorful, good portion. Personally I wouldn't get them for takeout, but eating them right as they came to your table would probably be good. Based on my friends' experience I am willing to say that maybe it was an off night, but I don't plan on ordering again. Disappointment cost us way too much money for what we got.

I ordered the elote nachos, they were amazing! This place has a very good atmosphere and the staff are incredibly nice and helpful.

The food and service were fantastic! The guacamole with the fresh tortillas we had a little of everything and sat outside in their outside seating area. We visited while staying in Kent for a month. I will go back again the next time we visit. Also, the young boy who served our food was polite and ensured we had everything we needed.

Yay for a new favorite! We ordered 2 chicken quesadillas, taquitos with beef, chimichanga, and Callie's street tacos. Sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo all came on the side. Chimichanga and taquitos were delicious! They were crispy and freshly made for our order. I would definitely ask for chimi to be fried a little longer next time! Taquitos came guacamole on the side. I really enjoyed these! The prices were affordable. We will be back to try the burrito bowl!

Had lunch here this week. It is counter service and they bring it to you as it is made. I asked questions about the menu. I was told the Cali Street tacos were the most popular item ordered. So I got that with 1 each chicken, steak and pork. They are served in what looks and tastes like homemade corn tortillas. A little onion and cilantro on top. They were exactly as described and tasted very good. I thought it was lacked seasoning. So I added some salsa to each taco for more flavor. I knew I would want more to eat than 3 tacos. I asked about the beans on the menu and the nice woman gave me a description that didn't sound all that great. She said the beans were not refried. They weren't whole either than were a little smashed. I passed. I thought $4.50 for an order of chips and salsa was a bit steep for chips and salsa. But I got it anyway. Then I saw why they were $4.50. When she brought the chips to my table it was clear they just cooked the chips themselves. They were piping hot and salty. They were excellent and worthy of the price tag. I would buy these every time I go here. I asked how many salsas they have and was told mild and hot. I asked for both and the tomato salsa was mild. Verde salsa was hot. They were both fresh made tasting and what I expected. Hot was a little hot. I would have liked more heat. Overall, I liked this place. Everyone working here is super nice and food is what you would expect. I will be back.

Went this weekend to try for the first time! We were so excited and our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We ordered the carne asada fries, beef taquitos, and the birria tacos. Everything was so delicious and we demolished the leftovers the next day. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items!

The cocktails are creative, balanced, and reasonably priced -- I had the hibiscus mezcal margarita, which had an incredible depth of flavor. For my main, I ordered the Cena de Tacos, which comes with your choice of two out of five sides. I went with a creamy corn bowl and a side of Mexican rice -- both rich, flavorful, and comforting. My wife ordered the shrimp bowl with rice, which was just as delicious. What really stands out here is the authenticity -- every bite tastes like it was crafted with care and respect for traditional Mexican cooking. The interior is classy and modern, yet relaxed enough to feel comfortable. I also love the thoughtful touch of their craft beers being named after social justice initiatives. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Despite the restaurant being nearly full -- she was quick to serve. If you're looking for genuine Mexican flavors served in an elegant but welcoming setting, Battleground is a must-visit.

But alas, I don't think we will return to The Battleground. The service was awkward. The hosts and our waiter were, for a lack of better words, socially awkward young men dressed like they just left school and may have tossed their backpacks behind the hostess stand. It was a weird contrast for the slightly upscale prices and interior they present. The waiter seemed nervous, which, in itself isn't a bad thing, but they awkwardly lingered when it wasn't necessary and was hard to get their attention when we needed our check and to pay the bill. The food and drinks were a mixed review. The Battleground margaritas were delicious. The chips and salsa were not great, we mostly got a basket of tortilla shards. My partner got three tacos--carne azada, al pastor, and fish. His big takeaway was, "they're not very hot (temperature) and they're kind of bland." Similarly, we got the margs "spicy," but my Texas palate said, "this is spicy?" It had a tajin rim, from what I can figure. ...Maybe we're not the normal Ohioan clientele. A bright note, the refried black beans and esquites were awesome and the esquites big enough to share. I ordered the Pescado Veracruz, the plating and sides were good but the mahi mahi was chewy and only slightly above room temperature. Like I said earlier, maybe I did myself a disservice by hoping to find my new favorite Mexican restaurant... but, I just don't see us going back for great margaritas and sides.

The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated with just a bit enough funky touches without going overboard. Not a lot were there, so I was seated quickly in a booth. Chips, salsa and coleslaw quickly appeared on the table. The chips were ok, the salsa was very bland and one not even after adding hot sauce. The coleslaw was what you expect and adds a nice contrast to spicy food. Since I had a certificate for $30 I was planning on getting a lunch and an entree to go for the next day. I ordered the Lunch Chili Relleno and the Camarones a la Mama Goya. My server returned shortly to let me know that the Chili Relleno was not available; a real disappointment since this is one of my favorites and its a great way to judge a Mexican restaurant. After reviewing the menu I picked the #3 Vegetarian Combo. The combo came out looking very good mainly due to the colorful bean tostada, but I quickly realized that the combo was missing the bean burrito, after talking to my server they brought it out on a separate plate. The vegetarian combo of bean burrito, bean tostada and cheese enchilada was mediocre at best; the beans were very soupy without a lot of flavor, the burrito was very plain, just beans in a tortilla topped with cheese sauce, the enchilada had a decent sauce but not much cheese and the tostada at least had some lettuce, tomato and guacamole to add some interest. Overall not very interesting or exciting. I do give Coyote's credit in that they did a nice job of doing the to go order, everything was nicely packed separately, they included chips and salsa and a cup of the coleslaw. The Camarones a la Mama Goya are shrimp with zucchini, squash, onions and tomatoes well cooked and pretty tasty. The beans and rice were ok, the to go beans were actually thicker and worked well as part of the meal. The shrimp meal was pretty good and the portion was good enough to make two meals. I was looking forward to trying Coyote's, the lunch was disappointing and the to go shrimp was OK, overall the rating is about 2 1/2, just alright but nothing special. Of course you may have a much different experience. Not the type of place for you if you are looking for anything cutting edge or for big flavors.
