I really hate leaving a negative follow-up review, mainly because Fresh Air did my original asbestos duct removal about 9 years ago, and they did fantastic work. I always said I'd bring them back for the next phase of the project--life just moved slowly, and here we are almost a decade later. I reached out again recently, and unfortunately, the experience wasn't the same. It took about three days to get a call back, which I didn't mind because of the excellent service I'd had in the past. The rep came out, I showed him the areas I needed removed, and we had a good conversation. He gave solid advice and said he'd send over a quote. Three days later, I texted to follow up--to check whether the quote had been sent or had gone to the wrong email. I never received a response. It's now been 3-4 months without any communication. Honestly, he could have reached back out to me and told me the job was too small, or that they weren't willing to take it on. Any form of return communication is always better than no communication. At this point, I'll have to take my (admittedly small) job elsewhere. I'm genuinely disappointed because I was looking forward to working with them again, but the lack of follow-up left me stuck. I wish my experience this time matched the first one, but I wanted to share an honest update for anyone considering long-term work or multiple phases. read more

Better Late Than Never...I'll start by saying that in the history of positive reviews being long overdue, this one should take the cake. Once upon a time (some 5 years ago) in the attic of a house in Southern California, asbestos contamination reared its ugly head - thus beginning our abatement saga. It all began one day with an innocuous visit from an AC company. The service person went into the attic for a routine inspection of the unit, and came down with the surprising announcement of having found a crushed air duct. This report was concerning since the old ducts were in some measure, comprised of asbestos material. Apparently, a worker in the past must have stepped on the duct and decided not to report the damage to us. Consequently, there's no telling how long potentially contaminated air was being blown through a compromised duct, exposing us to asbestos fibers. We were advised to not use the unit, and immediately contact an asbestos abatement company to remove the crushed duct. I'd seen and heard reports of people dealing with the nightmare of asbestos contamination, but now it was our turn. So what to do, where to start? The AC rep suggested a friend of his who ran an abatement company (which shall remain nameless), so I gave them a call, and spoke at length with a high-ranking person at the company, who assured me his team would do a professional and careful job of removing the damaged duct, along with replacing the other old ducts as well. Being wary of the risk of things going wrong, I hired a plumber I trusted (who'd previously re-piped the house) to be in the attic and videotape the abatement procedure. About a half an hour in, the plumber came down with an alarming report that the workers were failing to thoroughly wet down the ducts before crushing them and were recklessly stuffing them into plastic bags - causing plumes of dust and fibers to fill the attic space. He advised me to immediately cancel the "abatement" and hire an independent asbestos inspector to determine the extent of widespread contamination of not only the attic, but the master bedroom below - in which the "clean room" was set up. As we reviewed the video tape together, it was obvious the whole procedure was being improperly run. Where there should've been at least two clean room chambers, there was only one. Also, it was a windy day, and the crew had left the front door open, along with a window in the master bedroom, in which the clean room was set up - thereby allowing uncontrolled currents of air into the house during the abatement procedure. I called the company owner and told him my concerns about how the operation was being run, and that I wanted the procedure to stop immediately. The next week, I hired an independent company to take test samples in the attic and master bedroom - and the results were concerning. Not only did the inspector find asbestos fibers in the dust that now coated all the attic beams, he actually found a coal-sized chunk or two of asbestos on top of the furnace cabinet grate. After I provided the positive test results to the negligent abatement company, they refused to accept liability - even though I had irrefutable proof of their negligence on video tape. Had I wanted to take them to court, it would likely have been an open and shut case, since not only did I have an eyewitness with the plumber in the attic, but more importantly, a "see it with your own eyes" witness in the video he shot. But since I was dealing with an aging parent on hospice care, my main objective was just to make the house safe again as soon as possible, and avoid simultaneously dealing with the double-nightmare of litigation. Enter Fresh Air to the rescue! My first contact with the company was Erin McConnell. She listened patiently and responded with empathy, as I gave her the details of the nasty situation we were dealing with. I mentioned to her of having earlier contacted an independent remediation specialist, named Frank (whom Erin had worked with before), and she assured me of his professionalism in overseeing a Procedure Five abatement operation. Frank took samples in the attic and elsewhere in the house, to determine the degree of contamination. He said we'd need to evacuate the premises for two weeks while the abatement was taking place. He took air and surface samples to monitor progress of the abatement and reported the results to me each day. Though there were some setbacks, I credit Erin - with her pleasant and assuring demeanor, for keeping things on track and for mediating to completion, a successful abatement procedure - they just don't come any nicer than Erin McConnell - or companies more professional, than Fresh Air. So if you find yourself dealing with your own personal nightmare involving some nefarious form of contamination - be it asbestos, mold or whatever - then I highly recommend reaching out to the good folks at Fresh Air to help make your living space safe again. read more

My parents own a house in Monterey Park that was built in 1961 that had a popcorn ceiling and, as often the case with homes this old, asbestos. This was found in the popcorn, some of the tile (a lot that was hidden underneath carpeting) as well as in the black mastic adhesive used to adhere other flooring materials. After a lot of research on Yelp and receiving a few quotes, we opted to go with Fresh Air Environmental for full abatement. Their price was good and they were very easy to work with. They removed the popcorn ceiling, the old carpeting, the tiling, and black mastic, leaving behind clean surfaces ready for a series of other contractors and trades that were to follow, which was paint, flooring, and (unexpectedly) slab repair. (Upon removal of all of the carpeting and tile, we found a huge crack in the foundation that needed to be repaired.) Erin and Everette were great to work with, but I have to give a special shout out to Erin. We had a panic moment after abatement was done, and I had the slab repair guys showing up at 8:00 a.m. on a Wednesday to begin the slab repair. A few days prior, I discovered extra black mastic in two areas that we originally did not have tested for asbestos. (We used a 3rd party testing company, and they wrote-off these two areas as not of concern...argh). This threw a wrench in our slab repair plans and we had all kinds of nightmares about the slab repair guys disturbing the black mastic, ruining the abatement that we just spent big bucks on. I was able to get ahold of Erin late Tuesday night (after business hours!), and told her what was going on. She said, "When are your contractors showing up tomorrow?" I told her, "8:00 a.m!" She replied, "I can have two of my workers show up at 7:00 a.m." Wow! They showed up right on time, assessed the situation, and were actually able to take care of the extra removal the same day, working apart from my slab repair guys. We were stunned. Yes, the extra work wasn't free, but the added cost was very reasonable. I can't even put a price on the headaches Erin saved me. Outstanding! Needless to say, I am a very happy customer. read more

I only really interacted with Erin, but she was so responsive, which is much appreciated. My bathroom looks like all the lead was removed appropriately, and the asbestos abatement cleared post-abatement testing by a third party. And pricing was more than fair. Hopefully all my repairs are done so we won't have to interact too much more often with Fresh Air, but if we have to, for example, clear out some stuff on the roof, it'd be a pleasure to interact with Fresh Air again. So I found these guys off of homeadvisor. First I had testing done (per state regs) and found out that I had asbestos. I then put out several bids. Fresh Air came out almost 50% cheaper than the most expensive bid. I asked if they were certified by the state to remove asbestos (yes), if I would get a cert from them that they did the work (yes), and the air would be tested afterwards (yes). Seemed like I dotted and crossed all the "i" and "t" and hired them. Very easy going. Would hire them again. read more

Their online system and scope of work documents made everything easy to understand the scope of work, terms and conditions, and payment. They showed up early in the morning for the work, which I will admit was a ways out for them. I would use them again, but the only slight knock is I felt that I had to follow up with them. An unexpected, VERY good experience. This is the company to go with. Don't bother shopping around. We had our ENTIRE home remediated for mold that was discovered after we purchased it and moved in earlier this year. Our mold problem was pervasive; every wall and ceiling. We have three small children and were horrified the stuff was lurking in the walls. JLM Environmental (also amazing) recommended Fresh Air for our pervasive, house-wide mold problem. Everett came to the house more than once to answer all my questions about our huge remediation project. ALL of the drywall had to be removed and he addressed all of our concerns. The quote was reasonable and the techs who did the work took great care in taking our house apart to clean it up. All of the drywall was removed, house-wide, and the wood was cleaned thoroughly. I received before and after pictures and the cleanup was impressive. Erin was also in continuous contact, answering my questions and helping us through the process. Multiple contractors/tradesmen who have been helping us remodel the house have commented on how carefully it was opened up for cleaning/remediation. No framing or property was damaged and all of our things that had to be removed (doors, fixtures, shelving, fans, etc.) were stacked neatly in the garage. We were on vacation when Fresh Air came to abate the mold in our "master bathroom". Our room mate and the crew miscommunicated and they ended up abating the front bathroom. There was some household but not dangerous mold in the front bathroom that we'd planned on cleaning up in a few months. I think the reviews for Fresh Air speaks for itself, but if I can just add one more . . . After over 1 year of searching, multiple bids turned down, we finally found the place we could call home... and then the inspector said the word: Asbestos. My heart stopped. Nobody wants to find asbestos in their home, so I made some phone calls - one being Fresh Air Environmental. Erin picked up the call and was so incredibly patient with explaining everything to me. How the asbestos will be removed, what I'll need to do, etc. I felt that we were in great hands. I ended up asking the Seller for a credit to pay for the remediation and Erin was able to give me a ballpark estimate so I could provide it to the Sellers. After we closed, we had Fresh Air do the remediation. There was one hiccup where their workers accidentally unhinged a couple of the panels on our wooden shutters. When I told this to Erin, she was very responsive and arranged for shutter repair vendors to get it fixed. This is true customer service and she had no legal obligation to do that. If I ever purchase another home that contains asbestos, I won't be freaked out anymore because I know I can give Erin and her team a call and it will be taken care of. One disclaimer, they are a relatively small team with a growing business. I did not always receive prompt responses, so if you're looking for an asbestos contractor that will respond to you right away, they may not be the ones for you. But if you want ones that are knowledgeable, patient and will explain things to you step by step and stand behind their work, I think waiting a day or so for a response is well worth it. read more

The work crew descended on my home, took things out of my dumpster to take home with them, and took spray paint cans that were in a toxic waste box and began testing them on scrap wood and put them in their cars. They repeatedly asked me if they could have a broken flat screen TV that was outside and took lawn chairs out of my garage and wanted to take those too. I told them repeatedly that the chairs weren't being thrown away. The supervisor was late and berated me for not having my pool table moved when the owner told me it wasn't a problem. I asked the company to leave-I wasn't going to let that crew in my house when they had so little boundaries. Neither the owner or the supervisor ever apologized for their actions either. I am writing this review to applaud Erin and Kevan at Fresh Air Env. for their excellent services. They deserve this review because of the fabulous services and professional demeanor, not to mention the company's high-quality work. We were referred to Fresh Air by a neighbor of ours who had used their services for a fire damage cleaning and restoration project. After hearing the amazing positive comments, we decided to give them a call to help with our disastrous pipe burst and flooding catastrophe at our house. Our insurance "adjuster" was truly worthless, responded with lengthy delays and simply couldn't understand the urgency of the situation. he sent out a company to dry the floors and walls. we kept telling them that water was dripping down into the living room and kitchen but they kept stating their work order was restricted to the master bath only!!!! This went on for 10 days!!! they ripped out flooring and walls and cabinets in the bath and left a ton of dust everywhere on the carpet, bed, curtains, hallway and down the stairs into the living room..... we were fed up and frustrated so we called Fresh Air. from the beginning, Erin and Kevan were attentive, calm and professional. the first thing they told us was the potential for asbestos and lead release from the damage to the bathroom walls and floors by the insurance company contractor due to the age of our home. no one had told us anything about this before! luckily, all tests came back negative; whew! Fresh Air helped us deal with the insurance company. they prepared a through estimate and got approval from the insurance company. they removed all water damaged and moldy ceiling and cabinets and kitchen flooring and more. their work areas were clean and every other area in the house was covered with plastic sheeting. amazingly professional. they kept comping back to check on their air filtration units and dehumidifiers and kept giving us updates everyday and sometimes twice per day. Just dealing with Fresh Air gave us an immediate sense of calm and an uncommon sense of trust. They truly came through with flying colors. They even got commendations from my wife who practically never trusts any contractor!
