The store is clean and organized, and the cashiers and other staff couldn't be friendlier. It's one of those stores that has as many "off" brands as national ones, which isn't always a bad thing. A large portion of the customers use WIC and Bridge cards, and there is a good selection of food so if you don't own a vehicle you can walk here and not the party store or gas station. I couldn't do my weekly shopping here because there are some brands I'm loyal to, and the prices here are a little steep on those. But, if you are in the area, don't let the location stop you from going in for some $1 Faygo 2 ltrs or other fun stuff. They also double coupons up to $.50, have a Western Union, and a fax machine!!! Ok, that's not super-exciting, but it might be if you live nearby and want to fax something.

I have called this store on 4 or 5 separate days of the week, mornings and afternoons. And EVERY TIME I CALL you DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STAFF IN THE OFFICE TO ANSWER THE GD PHONE CALL????? You're getting "unusually high call volumes" EVERY DAY AT ALL HOURS?? You are one of the largest retailers in the country and you can't afford to hire REAL LIVE PEOPLE WHO CAN WORK IN THE MAIN OFFICE FOR PHONE ANSWERING and administrative duties???? So I am DONE supporting any form of a Walmart Store; be it online or in person! It isn't a rumor about them changing the expiration dates on the meats in the deli. The employees were threatened to do it or get fired. They also let the frozen chicken thaw in buckets of blood (they seem to think it makes it tender). That's why I was violently ill within 15 minutes of eating one of the rotisserie chicken; this was before he was hired to work in the deli. They don't change the oil in the fryer; they are told to :recycle it", until it looks like motor oil. They also took expired cans of food from another store that also owned that closed (after the blackout several years ago), and mixed it in with their stock, hoping nobody would notice. That's why the prices are so cheap. And God forbid, if you confront the deli manager, she cuts your hours, so you end up quitting. I heard this from 2 former employees and one current one. If I could give them a -10 for this store, I would. They don't give the new hires an employee, but penalize them for something they aren't aware of. I could write a book about the drug deals in the parking lot, the fact that they don't pay OT after 40 hours, they pay cash, and the sexual harassment that occurs. I probably wouldn't have known they existed had I not received a local flier in the mail, so A+ for their marketing to get the word out! I noticed lots of brands I pay a hefty premium for at Westborn Market, so my wallet was more than willing to give Pelham a visit. The exterior of the building gives off a "liquor store" vibe, so keep a close eye to realize you're at your destination. The space is very open. It is not laid out like a normal grocery store, meaning it's got an open-concept versus miles of aisles. It's a fairly small space but not nearly as cramped as Westborn. You can pretty much figure out which direction to go from the front door. Pelham Market has a great selection of fresh veggies and fruits, all at reasonable prices. We were excited to see Sunset tomatoes, which are usually only sold in big-box stores. Everything on our fruit and veggie list was available here. If you're looking for a super-huge selection of organic-this and exotic-that, you won't find it here. But you will find the basics. The meat counter was well-stocked with some of my favorite brands including Boar's Head, Dearborn brand and Delallo. We picked up some delicious Delallo smoked turkey for only $4.99/lb, versus the cheapest turkey at Westborn for $6.99/lb. When you take your lunch to work every day, you'll really love the $2 difference per pound. Besides meats and cheeses, they also had a large selection of fresh salads, hummus, veggies and dips. They had very fair prices in their meat cooler as well. There are only two registers! So, if this place gets busy, I'm sure it'll be a pain to wait around. Luckily there were only a few people in line when we were ready to check out. The process of getting out was quick and painless! There was even an employee there to bag our items. Our shopping trip was about $20 less than we've been spending at Westborn. Sure, Pelham Market may not have 100 fancy cheeses or 12 varieties of canned tomatoes, but Jacob and I were more than pleased with their offerings of our weekly essentials.
