Asian snacks
Kellie C.

I've adopted a few new tastes that led me to seek out the Asian supermarket. My daughter has too, pocky treats (thin biscuit dipped in chocolate flavors) are popular on YouTube and at school for snack time so I stock up here. The aisles are packed with anything you may need to do an Asian stir fry or season up your food with chile sauces. I got a nice tea set here to go with my matcha tea in the morning for a super low price. I'm a fan of vegetarian You Tuber Mama Tang who eats jars of kimchi in every show. I found the condiment addictive and Asian supermarket has several varieties along with one made in house (my choice). Sweet finds throughout the place and I don't have to Amazon order any of them. P.S. The Mochi desserts are the best here! A little ice cream wrapped inside each one.

My wife loves their wide selection of tofu and miso. I enjoy their choice of teas, coffee candies, and spicy rice cracker mixes.

I visited this Asian super market today i stayed in there for about an hour looking at everything. It reminds me of some of the Asian markets in Texas that i loved going to. I do wish they had a better selection of shrimps available. I love the asian dish ware they have, i ended up buying a really nice skillet and the top to it which was separate. They have tops to go with your skillets that didnt come with a top. They have bulk rice like Jazmin rice which i love. I also saw rice steamers and giant size bags of rice. They had all kinds of meats, rabbit, duck, and squid and bones like beef bones all kinds of fish some fresh lots frozen. Pretty interesting in there. I will definetly go back for another skillet and top next month and frozen squid, its hard to find these days. The place does have a smell but i havent seen one that doesnt. I like the place I'll be back.

The frozen food I would be careful about because it's been frozen for awhile so check the expiration date.

SPecifically, we came here to find asafoetida, and after figuring out that it's not called asafoetida in Arabic, we left happily with not one, but two different configurations of the stanky herb (which made all of the difference in our dinner!). You can find some special, more obscure things, like weird varieties of cocoa powder or coffee, plus honey, and even locally made Yemeni halva/khalta (to the uninitiated, it's sort of a distant cousin of nougat or Turkish delight, but better-- get the harissa one, it's the bomb). The staff are friendly and helpful. They also have a bunch of other random housewares and household items ranging from tea sets to perfumes, including an "inspired by" Baccarat Rouge that smelled actually believable for a tenth of the price of the real deal. Go for it.

Displays were through out the space, but unlike a traditional market that stacks food items on shelves far above the shopper's line of sight. They carry a variety of top-shelf items at great prices. (Check out the pics I've posted.) Their perfumes are high quality oud-types, that for some Americans might be considered too heavy, but are fabulous and long-lasting... mostly selling at $25 at the time of this review. Check out Khanjar perfume for men - the art in the packaging aloneis worth $25 alone! But don't kid yourself, this smells incredible for both males and females, IMO. Their jewelry, mainly silversmithing of rings, is high quality and unique. I found them a bit high in price for the silver content but many held beautiful polished stones (Aqiq, Agate,) of which I have no knowledge of their value. Overall, this smallish market houses a powerful punch of high quality merchandise in comparison to larger markets, and excellent customer service. I'll be back.

My whole total was a measly $11 for a dozen of falafel, a plate of rotten turnips pickles and parsley 2 mini containers of garlic and tahini and 2 huge containers of garlic and tahini that were both sour and old tasting, I kept my mouth shut and didn't call them to complain and figured they lost a long time customer bc why would I even go back when their packaged items are all dusty and expired and flies all over their produce, in the whole produce isle I didn't see one fruit or vegetable that was edible and everyone was trying to buy stuff but they were walking away after trying to pick through. Way better markets in the area. Skip this place if you care about what goes into your body, threw the turnips pickles garlic and tahini straight into the trash upon opening, ate 2 of 12 falafels out of hunger, then threw the rest away bc what would make me think it was ok to eat them after everything else was rotten, pathetic third world vibes in this market, defiantly has gone down hill, hope they shut down and use that big space for an actual edible market

La Bodega is a small Dominican store with groceries and prepared food. There are 3 small aisles of…read moregroceries - one with mostly drinks and refrigerated proteins, one with sauces and dry goods, and the last with some cleaning supplies. Towards the rear, there are racks of spices, a very small frozen food section (one freezer) and some produce. I'm guessing they don't actually sell any of the produce - it's probably just there as storage until they cook everything? The real magic of the store is in the back, where there's a small counter serving all sorts of delicious goodies. On a Saturday for lunch, there was a steady stream of customers picking up orders and eating. Just be aware that this is a family owned establishment that takes time to prepare food - lunch was supposed to start at 11:30AM, but they didn't have most of the menu ready until around 12:30PM. For people who are less patient, there is a prepared food counter with various meats and stews and a display with some fried foods. We opted for a couple of items: Fritura Mixta ($18.50) - Wow, this is a giant plate of fried meat and tostones. Deep fried beef, pork, chicken, longanisa, each one seasoned and drained well. Not greasy or oily at all. This is seriously a meat overload, in retrospect, we should have ordered a couple of additional sides because, to be honest, we aren't huge meat eaters. Still delicious. It took about 20 minutes to come out because everything was fried fresh. Cheese Bollitos ($2.50) - Think of a fried mashed potato croquette with a slightly different yucca flavor profile. These fried pastries aren't fried to order - instead they are probably fried in the morning and stuck in a heated display cabinet until they are ordered. They don't have the best crisp exterior and aren't exactly piping hot, but they are still good. Chicken and Cheese Empanada ($3) - These were definitely differently shaped vs. other empanadas I've had. Quite a long half moon filled with well seasoned chicken and rich cheese. Similar to the bollitos, these are not fried to order. We went back a couple of weeks later for some of the items on the dinner menu (only available after 5PM) that aren't served during lunch. It took around 25 minutes this time for the food to come out. Chimi de Pierna ($13) - This sandwich consisted of pulled pork, red cabbage, onions, and tomato on a super pillowy bun. The ingredients were heavily seasoned with a sweet and somewhat vinegery sauce that was quite similar to a bbq sauce. Be careful eating this one - since the bun is so soft, the ingredients start spilling out with every bite. Mofongo ($20) - Super garlicky, pretty classic mofongo mashed with chicharrones. Our meat of choice was additional chicharrones - super well fried with a great crisp and chewy fat. It came with two small containers of sauce that was not a normal mojo de ajo. It was limey, porky, very fresh, and paired perfectly with the carbs and proteins. I would definitely get this again. As a side note - they charge a 4% credit card fee. La Bodego is a great addition to the area. Definitely stop by to get some good Dominican food!
