I ordered a full sheet cake from Holiday Market for my grandfather's 80th birthday celebration, and it was honestly one of the most disappointing experiences I've had with a bakery. This was a milestone event for our family, and the cake completely missed the mark. The texture was dry and crumbly, the flavor tasted stale, and the overall quality was nowhere near what you would expect for a custom celebration cake. It was not something I felt comfortable serving to guests, which was both embarrassing and frustrating given the significance of the occasion. What made matters worse was how the situation was handled. After reaching out to the store, there was no sense of urgency or accountability from the team. I was told I needed to drive back across town and bring the cake in for them to examine it--something that frankly should have been ensured before it was ever sold. For a large, pre-ordered cake tied to a major event, that level of quality control should be a given. I also spoke with Matthew, who was dismissive and unhelpful. I am a frequent shopper at Holiday Market in Canton, in spite of their prices, I drive by another "gourmet market" to get to them. IJS I stopped by yesterday to pick up a few things and brought some of their "burnt ends". After settling in for the evening I opened the package and the burnt ends did not look or feel to good so I put them in the microwave for a short while. Upon retrieving them from the microwave they looked even worse!!! Against my better judgement i tasted them and they were dry and absolutely tasteless devoid of any nutritional value ~ YUCK!!! I started to throw them away but they costs almost $15,00. Sooo I made a special trip back to the Store to return the burnt ends, I interrupted a conversation of four store employees and asked where the returns were and was directed to the Customer Service Counter (which had a Closed Sign). The store employee asked me for the item that was in the bag and then for my receipt and proceeded to process my refund. She "never" asked what the issue was. I asked to speak with a a manager and she declared that she was a manager. No apology no nothing!!! This Holiday Market is nice but I always compare it to the one in Royal Oak which is better in my opinion. This one in Canton is larger but the Royal Oak location has better ready made meals. I was told that both stores are owned by family members but that they aren't affiliated so if you have a membership card to the one in Royal Oak you can't use it at the Canton location which has its own membership program. This location is still decent for a gourmet shopping experience. What Holiday Market in Canton excels in is the meat and bakery departments. The meat is fresh and there are good sales. I like the ribs, chicken, and pork belly sold here. The bread is made in-house and it's very good. I've tried and enjoyed the bacon cheddar baguette, jalapeño cheddar bread, and traditional baguette. The fruits, vegetables, and ready made sandwiches and salads are expensive here. I typically go to cheaper grocery stores for fruits, vegetables, and canned and frozen foods. For the price of the food here, I also think the store could use a facelift and some renovations to make it look more sleek and modern befitting a gourmet grocery store. read more

This is a bigger store than the one by our house in the RO. I have only been to this location a couple of times when we had a rental home in Canton. It feels like the focus of this bigger store is on their bakery and wine at this location, two things I don't eat or imbibe often. Their bakery items have been tasty, the baked cakes are good, especially the custom cakes. Cakes from here are bit pricey, but expected at these smaller local and specialty store after all. The BEST fruits and meats I've found anywhere! I have been shopping here ever since I moved from NY a few years ago.....In fact, my husband knows not to get my produce from anywhere else but holiday or else it will be thrown in the trash! After passing by Holiday Market one day back in the summer, I added it to my list of places to check out. This past weekend, as I contemplated what I wanted to cook for the upcoming week, my better half reminded me that we had wanted to go by here and see what it was all about. We bundled ourselves and the little tyke into the car and off we went! This place has many of your average grocery staples (produce, breads, meats, etc) in brands you know (the facade proudly boasts that they carry the "Our Family" brand, which we know from Busch's), but also a host of Michigan and international products that aren't easy to find in your neighborhood grocery store. The name 'Holiday' is apt, as I felt a bit like I was shopping at some of my favorite European vacation spots as I looked at the assorted goods for sale. After perusing the aisles, we ended up with some cheese from France, some cookies from Italy, and some white wine from South Africa for a planned seafood meal this weekend. I can't say that I wasn't extremely tempted to add some tiny mince pies from England, some Cadbury candy, and some Asian noodles to the cart as well, just to satisfy some random food cravings that I knew would hit at some point. The store itself was easy to navigate, clean, and well-organized. I spent a couple of minutes with my face pressed up to the glass of the bakery section, drooling over some of the cakes on display in the pastry case. It's interesting how when I go into HM, I go with a different mindset. I don't go there to look for the cheapest price on something, I go to HM to look for things that are unique and more boutique than what Meijer and Kroger offer. The meat/seafood section alone puts other big names to shame. HM makes amazing cookies in-house and the Coffee Shop offers coffee that tastes better than other chains as well. The big plus for me is that they don't charge extra for soy milk, which, the availability of this option alone can make or break my day (if you know what I mean). They have these crabmeat stuffed salmon that looked amazing! I was told that if they're not in the case that day, they can make them for me on the spot. That's pretty cool! They have the supplies for a seafood boil. It has never crossed my mind on a normal day, but I always think about how I want to do that sooner or later. When I was a child, I really looked forward to visiting either J.L Hudson's in Downtown Detroit, or more commonly Tiedtke's in downtown Toledo, Ohio during the Holiday season. The former of the two was a a grocery store mecca that revolutionized the industry throughout most of the 20th Century. Today's when you visit the grocery section at a Kroger's, Spartan, Target, or Walmart store; Tiedtke's was doing same thing 75 years ago. One would think it's about time for a major change when it comes to pushing a shopping cart around the store, and Holiday Market is a breath of fresh air in the right direction. Let's face it, when you have been in one grocery store, you have seen them all until you come to this place. If you're searching for something that's upscale, but won't break your piggy bank, then you will love this place. However, what impressed me was the selection of Asian foods and spices. While Holiday Market offers your typical Kikkoman's soy sauce, they have other brands to choose from that are very interesting, especially if you are looking for a more exotic or specially brewed soy sauces. They even have Tamari, low sodium, and Chinese brands. However, the part that really blew me away was wide selection of rice this place offers. If you love Japanese sticky rice like I do, then you will be amazed to find that Holiday Market carries the "Tamanishiki Super Premium" short-grain variety. While it's expensive. "Tamanishiki uses two kinds of super premium quality short grain rice; Koshihikari and Yume Gokochi. They are carefully grown and harvested in the Montna Farms, located in the fertile agricultural land of the Sacramento Valley, California. Hence, it has a unique combination of great flavor and wonderful texture that no other rice can imitate. Tamanishiki is carefully polished so washing is not necessary." When it comes to ultra-premium Japanese-style rice (yes, there's a difference), Montna Farms is the American gold standard making amateur cooks and professional chefs across the nation very happy. Thankfully, we can drive to the Holiday Market to buy some great rice without taking a road trip to Yuba City, California. Holiday Market also carries Nishiki rice, which is great for making sushi. In addition, the store also has "Sho-Chiku-Bai" gluten free rice, grown by Koda Farms in California that is sticky and extra sweet. This is ideal if you into making Japanese or Korean confectionery. I would have given this review five stars, if it weren't for the lack for good and competent customer service. When you ask someone in the store where something is at, and they promise to check, but never come back after 10 minutes, it's just not acceptable. read more

Found that they had a specific product from New Jersey that we were thinking we had to order on line from New Jersey. The website showed a price of $10.99 for a 16oz roll. We called and verified it was available and drove to purchase it. The price we paid was $12.99!!! Price in store should be the same as what they advertise on their website. *STAY AWAY* -FOOD IS KEPT UNSANITARY- This is not the first time I've seen flies along with other bugs on food in the store. After being aggravated seeing that they still sell food after it's been contaminated by flies made me sick! Around 4 months ago I saw flies on bagels and recorded it too, and now seeing more flies than ever I thought it was time to do something. If a store can't handle flies I suspect that there are many more unsanitary practices going on. Stay away from any food prepared or sold in the Open by them. This is a WARNING and eating said food can make you extremely sick, flies carry larva and in some cases disease. Stay away until they decide to upgrade from 1800's standards. A more "gourmet" grocery store. I wouldn't buy all your necessities here, as they tend to price the exact same items higher than other grocery stores. However, I do think that some of their specialty products are of exceptionally high quality and worth paying a little more for. Some of my favorites: Pan Italian Loaf - basically really fresh sandwich bread Jalapeño Cheddar Bread - soft texture and full of cheddar and jalapeños Cheddar Bacon Baguette - combination of crunchy and chewy, like any good baguette, with the bacon and cheddar adding some savoriness Rosemary Baked Chicken - get the thighs, as they're perfectly juicy and tender Custard Pie - they'll sometimes have half off specials on this and other pies My one point of annoyance is that they'll sometimes sell day-old loaves of the jalapeño cheddar bread, and I've had the bread house employee lie to me and say that they were baked fresh that day (I can taste the difference!). read more

I loved this place but will never ever step foot in again. I bought a filet that was mis marked at 4 dollars. the cashier rang my order up and didn't say a word. so Being honest I did. It was taken from my hand and called the meat dept that took it.. came back with 65 bucks. not a thank u nothing . This market is wonderful as it offers more upscale choices on everything they offer. Granted, prices may be higher than what you're expecting or willing to pay, but many items are unique. Example: I came across some candies made in Italy, with natural flavors/ essences and the package shows you what region of Italy it's grown. I picked lemon and it had a gel like center which I loved. Want to try a new kind of cheese? They have it. Looking for different crackers or spreads? Look no further. Their produce area just looks better on observation, bright colors and no saggy looking vegetables. They have an area specifically with flavor infused oils and vinegars to pump up your recipes. Not sure how to choose? Each container has a sign with suggested uses to get you started! Meat section offers nice cuts. I have been a little disappointed in their meat counter. People rave about the place but although it's over priced I enjoy browsing.. after a few years of this I am not as enchanted. Have purchased steaks and pork chops only to come home find them very brown old looking unappealing on the undersides. Purchased ground sirloin yesterday for some all spaghetti sauce I like to make. Fresh spices behind the deli and seafood counter (which are HUGE BTW), you a bakery counter that stretches about 30 feet full with mini cakes, pies, and pastries. Fresh sliced bread, fresh poured olive oil, honey, and syrup by the bottle, and many more eye-catching items are available. For my bridal shower, my mom and I wanted to buy a few flowers for the centerpieces on the tables to give away as gifts. The floral department at Holiday Market really nailed the soft romantic colors that we were hoping to accomplish. I wanted mainly greens and whites with some soft pinks, peaches and lavenders thrown in. This month we ordered a 21st birthday cake from here and it turned so delicious everyone was asking where we ordered it from. It had four layers of white cake and strawberry jelly filling that was really good. They did an awesome job on decorating the cake just like the picture I brought in for them to do. On top of it they did a price adjustment on the total price of the cake so instead of $98 the cake cost me $58. Holiday's bakery is the best! I also love the macaroons they make there! One of my favorite grocery stores for specialty items or last minute goods. The produce section was overhauled to now include Asian veggies and spices. Vegetables are displayed beautifully and watered regularly for a longer shelf life. More interestingly is the bakery section. Holiday bakes THE best bread around. That smell of fresh baked bread waffling underneath your nose is intoxicating. The French and Italian style loafs are incredible and has the tastiest crust. The homemade croutons made from this in house baked bread is also delicious. If you are a cheese fan then look no further, Holiday has you covered. OMG a wide variety of import and domestic cheese is available at reasonable prices. You can choose 3 to 4 cheeses to create an incredible wine pairing for under $25. Sliced cured meats are displayed in the cheese section for easy access. You can create an impressive charcuterie board from these ingredients. The dessert counter is always my next stop after the produce, bread and cheese sections. I'm not sure if all of the desserts are made in house but you must try the pies and cakes. The Oreo cookies pudding, Strawberry shortcake or Banana pudding are some of my favorites. A mini cafe was recently added where you can enjoy your dessert with a cup of freshly made coffee. Another popular area at Holiday Market is its ready made food. Good Lord this is where I lose it and the dollars start adding up. The rotisserie chicken, pasta dishes and other prepared meals are delish and easy to reheat at home or to have on the go. The beer, wine and spirits display is well curated similar to the produce, bread, cheese and dessert sections. The cashiers are quick and efficient you never wait too long to pay for your groceries. We're talking the fresh quality stuff from Whole Foods and Fresh Thyme, the variety of Kroger, and the posh of Papa Joe's. This place is beyond that of just a market. It's a grocer's dream. From serving Michigan made products, to Boar's Head meats, to fresh looking cuts of veal and beef, to a large selection of spices and everything in between, this place has it all and then some. The outside building itself is impressive. All brick, located smack dab between a bunch of businesses, with shopping carts peppered around the parking lot and street. Upon entry, you're placed into a maze of amazing looking fare. Intensely fresh colored vegetables and fruits. Probably the biggest sprawl of meat and fish ready for you to cook up and consume. A tiny little sushi rack that, I wouldn't touch but if that's your deal then, go for it. A deli section filled with Boar's Head meats and cheeses. A stock of homemade packaged pastas and meats for you to take. Candy. The regular grocer's fare from pasta sauces to flour and oils and even an end cap of Hunter's sausage between mild and "hot". The most impressive thing was their alcohol selection. Now forgive me for sound like an alcoholic in need of an intervention but the selection is YUGE! Craft beers both local and international, American brews, Scottish brews (yes folks, they had Innis & Gunn), Founders, Woodchucks, and just about anything you can hope to find from Bud Light to Guinness. A separate liquor area for the higher end stuff as well that you can't take a cart into. Speaking of brews, they also had a coffee area you can pick and grind your beans to take home for your coffee tasting pleasure. All in all, Meijer, eat your heart out! New to area, thought I'd try this grocery store. Wow, I shopped their over priced merchandise, went to fill my 5 gallon water container at their water station. I was rudely told "Ma'am you can't get water here!" I asked why and was told because I didn't have a Primo container. Good to know, I will never shop your store again!
