This location exceeded my expectations for fresh fish experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the friendliest of welcomes for my family and me. There was a wait but well worth it since everything was cooked to order including the clam chowder soup! My one year old ran around and enjoyed the scenery while our food was being prepared. Can't believe I've walked and drove past this place hundreds of times and never knew about it until a few months ago. The Super Seafood sub is truly a mama-slappin' worthy meal. Yes, I said "meal" because that sub is huge! Now, does the food take some time to be prepared? indeed, it does. Crab cakes are slamming!!! All crab! Cream of crab soup was delicious! Definitely coming back!

Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Price: 2 stars Average wait time for food: over 1 hour--1 star! This restaurant has been around since 1984. The banner out front says Baltimore Magazine says this place has the best crab cakes around. So we put it to the test and this is what we found out. The restaurant has a total of 5 small tables. The six of us were crammed at two small tables. There is only one chef and one waitress, a husband and wife team. We were the only customers that night. We arrived at 6:50pm. We placed our order at 7pm. We received our food at 8:15pm. Yes, you didnt read that wrong, it took an hour and 15 minutes for all of us to receive our food. One of us in the group was a diabetic too. Thank goodness he was able to wait it out. We all ordered the jumbo lump sized crab cakes. The waitress stated the entree crab cakes (2 crab cakes) were $14 for regular sized crab cakes and $18 for jumbo lump sized crab cakes. We each ordered the jumbo lump sized crab cakes, which came with two sides. We all received a separate check of $50. !!!!!?@#?#?$ Thats when we realized she meant $18 per crab cake. Funny how the waitress failed to mention it was $18 "per crab cake". It was a shame I was only able to eat one (it was very filling) and couldnt take the other one back to my hotel room to eat for later. The waitress also charged us $6.60 for tip. I didnt think waiting 1.25 hours for my food was worth $6.60 per person, but whatever. The food was good. The food was fresh. The waitress kept raving that our food was being prepared as soon as our order was placed so that it was at its freshest. Was it the best crab cake I've ever eaten? I dont think so. But the food was pretty good. Was it worth it? No. Was it worth the wait? No. Would I come back again? No. I really want this family business to succeed (and now I know that at $50 a person how it has succeeded since 1984) but without any extra help, I refuse to wait THAT long and pay THAT much for food to be crammed at two small tables. If you do decide to come here, I recommend ordering only ONE crab cake instead of two. Maybe with less of an order size our food would have come out faster. But maybe not. I guess we'll never know.... There is no parking on the street here. And they accept Visa and Mastercard only. No AMEX. Fresh Fresh is not a deli. Customer service from the owner was excellent. Service was fast for a Monday. I order the seafood sub sandwich and to be truthful I didn't care for it. Everything tasted the same. It had some special sauce on it, that really wasn't special to my taste bugs. Next time I will get just the regular fish sandwich I started to get and I will update my review. This place is a dump...went here for my birthday in December 2019. Recommended by a friend. Needless to say.. my first impression walking in there was to turn around. My man took me there upon my request so I really couldn't fuss. They had no menu, the owner read the menu off a piece of paper (tacky) I had shrimp & fries. Shrimp wasn't fresh. He ordered orange roughy mac cheese rice. The rice was just plain. No gravy or seasoning. And his fish wasn't fresh. This place discussed me. We were the only peoples in this restaurant for about 2 1/2 hrs. No one else never came in. Should've been a red flag also. If you want the full review go to google. But to summed this up. We was in there in there closing. While my man was paying our outrageous bill the male owner came out and put these dirty cardboard box tops all over the seafood Must've been about 12 tops... after he layered the seafoods with these dirty tops.. he then layered green dirty trash bags on top. I got sick in my stomach. Literally had to stop on the way home and get a ginger ale. Now I know why our seafood wasn't fresh. He didn't even throw ice on top before he covered it up. Everyone knows you have to keep seafood cold. Except these idiots. I advise anyone and everyone to stop supporting these careless peoples. Oh yeah!! It took forever for us to get our food. How's that? When we were the only ones in there. I'm telling you. If you eat here... YOU ARE TAKING A BIG RISK.. I went here for a Father's Day special, all-you-can-eat BYOB for $40. Sounds awesome, especially given the quality of the food. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see my father on the auspicious day itself, so I came here to enjoy seafood in peace and quiet with a book and some Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Ale---a perfect pairing for most seafood. But the hostess or friend of the manager or whoever, she was recruiting for some volunteer organization (I guess they were sponsoring the event? It wasn't clear who this lady was) but she wouldn't leave anybody alone about it. She kept making loud announcements every 20 minutes or so and poking her nose into everyone's business, not to ask about the food quality but to recruit for whatever-it-was. When she didn't get any recruits and the manager saw nobody else was coming in, the loud woman declared it was time for us to get lost. 2 hours earlier than was promised by the advertised flyer I had. But I was getting on towards sated and couldn't wait to get away from this megaphone-made-flesh, who proceeded to harass me all the way out the door about signing up for her group thing. Man... I'm going to have to go back on a regular day because the food was amazing! The fried fish was crispy on the outside but flaky and juicy within. The crab cakes had minimal filler and were mostly lump claw meat. I loved it. I miss this place despite my annoying first visit. So give it a shot. While visiting my sister's in-laws, the birthday boy wanted seafood for dinner. He heard rave reviews about "Fresh Fresh", so off we went... Silly me because I didn't bother to read Janet E's review below... D'oh! So... My review? Yeah, what she said. We parked the car at 4:08 p.m., walked to "Fresh Fresh", and saw the sign on the door, "Back in 10 Minutes." In hind sight, we wish the chef never saw us standing in front of the door, but he decided to return before the ten minutes were up and he decided to return to the restaurant to serve us. We sat around for about ten minutes before the chef/owner came to take our beverage order. After he returned with the drinks, we got the lecture about how everything he cooks is freshly made and the reason why there's only one chef in the kitchen is because he didn't want our food to have "other chef's DNA" tainting it. Instead of having other chefs' DNA in our meal, we were left to wait at least an hour and a half for our meal. The lady who phoned in her order when we walked inside the restaurant for take out got her meal before we did. By the time we left the restaurant, we were there for over two hours. Our meals were served to us one person at a time, literally. I got my crab cake first then it went around the table. One. By (painfully). One. Food - Meh. Not the best crab cakes I've ever had. I also wasn't a fan of the clam chowder - cream with potatoes and clams makes not a chowdah. Flavor required. Service - They were really, really, really nice, BUT it was slower than watching grass grow. Price - Too expensive for only getting one chef's DNA. I much prefer lots of DNA; I'm okay with the more the DNA, the higher the price as long as the food is good and it comes quickly. When we left "Fresh Fresh," the "Back in 10 Minutes" sign was still up. Do the rest of Baltimore a favor and keep that sign up guys... Otherwise people may never get to eat. read more

I have been walking past this little hole in the wall for a long time now but had never gone in. A coworker was telling me how wonderful they are so I decided to check them out. I'm so glad I did! The owner was the one who served me and offered up a wealth of information about the fish and helped me pick something I would like. He was super friendly. I ended up with the swai fish platter and I really enjoyed it. I love the way the fish was fried. A lot of places drown the fish in batter, hiding the fish, which I hate. This batter was light and crispy without overpowering or hiding the fish. The fish was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. I also got the cream of crab soup which was packed full of crab. I hate when my cream of crab soup is a gray tasteless blob so I was so pleased to have a nice creamy, balanced soup with the old bay coming through. I work nearby so this place will now move into my regular lunch rotation. I'm so pleased to have found a little local gem. It is so important to support the local businesses because Towson is being overrun with chains. As many have suggested, it is a good idea to call ahead and put your order in. Fresh fresh is a place I wish I knew about years ago. First off I want to say I read the reviews and called ahead for a pick up and it only took the normal 20 minutes to have my soup order ready (admittedly I did order soup but I digress), if you have a big group and you KNOW there is one chef call ahead! Tell them your number so they can prepare, I think people are so used to massive chain restaurants that have many multiple cooks and aren't as used to the mom and pop stores. What I ate: Cream of Crab soup. Now I am a picky as hell cream of crab soup person. I eat seafood constantly and I can honestly say this was great soup. It is spicy and old bay styled (Maryland speciality haha) so make sure you like spice when ordering it. I would say this is about equal to the cream of crab soup I had on smith island in MD. (If you haven't been there is is a crazy place but the seafood is excellent) and that is a pretty high praise. The location: This place is next to a closed down store and is totally hole in the wall. Walking in you might be tempted to turn around, the basement vibe can be off putting with seafood involved but don't! The owner (who is ridiculously nice and very passionate about cooking) has a line up of fish in the front bar that looked crazy good and to see that in a restaurant is always a great sign, it shows transparency which for seafood is super important. Advice: Look up the menu ahead of time and call to ask what the specials are and their prices. I bet you could even decide ahead of time and tell him your orders to cut down on wait time also to insure no one else eats your fish first! (Obviously coming to look is always fun but if you are in a rush might be a good idea). Now onto the matter of crab-cakes. Crab cakes are expensive. Period. And honestly Maryland is known for them so usually when going to a place that has fresh fish I opt to get just that, the fish. IMO it's really a waste of a chef to just get crabcakes when there is a WHOLE line up of fish for you, but I know Maryland loves their crabs hahha! Ok ok, I get it, the food takes a LONG time. Not just a long time, maybe hours with it is worth it. I've had some of the best seafood dishes I've ever had here including cream of crab soup and seabags stuffed with crab lobster and scallops. If you have the time and want great food, go for it, but if you're in a rush and want something quick and easy, go somewhere else. Everyone seems to complain about the time it takes to get the food, but I could care less if it's a 5 star meal. I walked into Fresh Fresh this afternoon because my oldest son told me he wanted to try some 'real Maryland clam chowder.' He's getting into eating more exciting foods, so I wanted him to have a great memory from our day trip to Baltimore. I found the restaurant through Google maps, and did no research. It was nearby, the sides included foods my younger sons enjoy, and didn't appear to be a chain, so we went. As soon as we walked in, I realized that it wasn't the kind of place I usually take my kids too. Two of them are autistic, and we don't really eat out much. I was worried about being problematic for the other patrons, but Mr. Rick could not have been sweeter or more welcoming. My middle little asked him about sushi, and he gave him a patient explanation of how sushi is prepared. We waited. I won't pretend we didn't. We ended up getting the gumbo, which was completely heavenly. I asked Mr. Rick to go mild on the spice for my oldest, but he ate it all. He loved it. We also split a plate of grilled tilapia, and my wild, picky kids ate every bite. We read some books from the stack provided in the back. We read the signs and posters around the restaurant. Now, I don't recommend that everyone with a bunch of special needs kids go descend on Fresh Fresh. The food is amazing -- get yourself some to go. But Mr. Rick went out of his way to set my mind at ease, and served us some fantastic fish. read more

If you want fresh seafood it is tough to argue with a place whose menu is basically the ice chest next to the kitchen. The owner and proprietor is in the kitchen cooking your food, and depending on the night, may even be serving it. And making small talk with you. The fish is being prepared fresh for you, a la minute. So be prepared for things to take a little bit longer, and for the decor to be pretty simple. An easy way to manage that experience is to come with a friend, get the seafood gumbo or garlic bread or both. After one encounter, I am a repeat customer for life. And to think that all this time, I always drove by, assuming they were fishmongers. I was going to eat at the Vietnamese restaurant across the street for lunch on a rainy Thursday, but as soon as I stepped out of the car, the smell of fried seafood lured me in. Ms. Darlene greeted me with a smile & showed me the menu. But my focus was on the beautiful finfish & shellfish displayed on ice. Immaculate. I knew the finished product had to be good. The chef came out front & greeted me as well. He took my order: I went for the catfish sandwich on whole wheat, tomato & onion with side of tartar sauce to go. I was in & out in less than 10 mins. When I got home, I found two HUGE, meaty, golden brown catfish fillets fried & seasoned to perfection. And the tartar sauce? From scratch. And DIVINE. A respectable lunch for less than $10.00? I'm in. Wash that down with some ice cold Taro Milk Tea from Kung Fu Tea across the street and I'm set. Gonna bring the family next time and explore the menu even further. (Homemade sides!) I've been going to this restaurant for years- and I really enjoy the seafood here. What I always get is the "seafood sub"- a real treat, and this place has the best I've tasted. You get fish, clams, shrimp, and crab all in one sub, for less than $10. Can't beat it! I don't understand the previous reviews complaining about the speed of the service. If you want fast, go to a fast-food drive-through window, for Pete's sake. Good food is worth waiting for. As far as the crab cakes being expensive, crab is expensive these days. Duh. LESSON LEARNED: REVIEWS ARE NOT ALWAYS RELIABLE, AS I TOOK A CHANCE WITH THIS RESTAURANT BASED ON REVIEWS. Dated restaurant, horrible food and service: I initially ordered fish and within seconds decided to get shrimp, considering my daughter was ordering the fish platter. The shrimp, fish, and fries were soft and not crispy. I was told after placing the order, which included crispy shrimp for me and fish for my daughter that the food would not be crispy because the food was not cooked in pork grease or lard. The male owner went on to tell me that the food was great, he had been doing [ this] for 35 years, his food is award winning, and he had a restaurant on Greenmount that stayed crowded all day. Ironically, it never crossed my mind that there were no other customers in the store. The cream of crab soup was extremely bland. I was told by the same male owner after picking up one of the desserts that was wrapped in plastic wrap, "Please do not touch the desserts. If you touch the desserts, your DNA will get on the plastic, then the person who buys the dessert will be eating your DNA when he or she unwraps the dessert and eats it. All of the desserts are fresh, so you do not have to worry, or touch them." Meanwhile, his wife is in the background yelling his name over top of him telling me about my DNA to ask him was he finished with a piece of paper he left in the kitchen area. She reportedly needed something to write on... Due to his tone, I decided to skip the dessert and started thinking, "Hmmmm...," but I remained hopeful and attempted to support the small black business and complete my $43 order... However, the wife insisted that my card was not working. After several requests for the male owner to place my order with the same card, he advised, "She is the boss, so if she said the card is not being accepted, you need to use another card." Again, I requested that he complete the payment transaction with the same card. He agreed, and finally, we learned that his wife did not have the chip end of my card inserted in the machine. Notably, no apology. After 25 minutes of waiting, I inquired regarding how much longer for my food to be ready. Why did I ask that question? The male owner appeared to have a meltdown with one other customer now present. He started yelling, "Look, I cook my food to order! This is not a damn fast food restaurant like Subway, or McDonalds where you have a bunch of young people running around with precooked food! All of my food is cooked to order, and I have been doing this for 35 years! I should have known that you would be a problem because you act like you couldn't afford the food from the time you walked in the door and change your order and didn't get a dessert!" My response, "Sir please stop raising your voice, while talking to me. I can afford anything in this store that I want. You are just rude, but I am still the customer at the end of this transaction." His response, "No, customers like you get on my damn nerves! Like I said, you act like you couldn't afford the food when you walked in the door!" I was speechless, as I could not believe I was in a registered MD business establishment (I as m assuming, but will investigate). I proceeded to ask for crackers for my soup as he completed my order. Why did I do that? He screamed, "Look, crackers were not a part of your initial order!" I just could not believe that had happened to me. I just shook my head and reiterated that he was unprofessional and his behavior was unacceptable. He screamed, "Get on out of here! The devil is a liar!" I am forever grateful that I was not one of my clients who I am charged with serving. Some people do not think twice about their career, livelihood, jail time, etc. Thank God for this assignment today. I passed the test. Originally walked past this neighborhood seafood restaurant about 2 months ago with my partner. WE were the only people in the shop other than Rick and his wife Darleen. Rick gave us a long overview of the menu, his various catches of the day, and even his business model of fresh seafood, cooked to order, with love in every bite. It was clear he loved cooking the food even more than we loved eating it. My partner didn't feel like seafood that day so we decided to eat elsewhere. Fast forward to today, me and my partner were feeling seafood, and we remembered the restaurant, so we went back to actually eat. Once again, we were the only customers in the store for the majority of the visit, however that just made the service even greater. Food: We had the seafood platter, which contained 1 jumbo lump crab cake, lots of steamed and fried shrimp, baby scallops, fried clams, cod cake, fried tilapia, and fried porgi. It came with 2 sides, so we got the house salad, and the macaroni and cheese. It did take longer than other restaurants, however it was plain to see that the reason for that was Rick making all the seafood from scratch specially for us. It was delicious! The scallops were buttery and smooth, the mac and cheese was the best I and my partner had ever had, and in the words of my partner the crab cake was "NOM NOM NOM!!!!!" (it was delicious). The platter was served with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, melted butter, lemon wedges, and a leaf of lettuce. Service: Darleen was very hospitable, friendly, and caring. She visited out table multiple times to ensure that our needs were met. She felt like a kind mother watching over our table. Overall I would say this is one of the best seafood restaurants in Baltimore. Its not the cheapest, or the fastest, however the food is made with love, is delectable, and the service is impeccable. Man, where is the love? In defense of Fresh Fresh Seafood, I think we live in an age of fast food... and too often I feel like we sacrifice quality in exchange for speed and rock-bottom prices (don't get me wrong, I am all about bargains too). I happened upon Fresh Fresh Seafood the other day and I nearly missed it--being the hole-in-the-wall that it is. I don't think I'd be out of line in pointing out that the place certainly isn't a looker (it reminds me of Lexington Market without the hubbub), but it still charmed me with its refusing-to-conform-to-modernity jolie-laide mom-and-pop way. It helped too that the food was delicious... and did I mention that an old Shirley Temple movie was on T.V.? ... My kind of place. Rick, the pop in this mom-and-pop operation, was as friendly as could be while he introduced himself and let me know what was fresh that day, taking the time to explain the care that went into the food there. Everything on the menu was made to order--aside from the sides, which were made in house. I pondered over my many choices, each of them just as tempting as the other: large shrimp, jumbo shrimp, scallops, catfish, tilapia, roughy, etc., etc.? grilled or fried? Cajun, lemon butter, lemon pepper, etc., etc.? cole slaw, potato salad, hand-cut fries, mac-n-cheese, etc., etc.? I went with a platter of a dozen battered and fried large shrimp, collard greens with smoked turkey, and mac-n-cheese with Wisconsin cheddar... and washed it down with ginger ale that Rick poured into a cup of ice for me. My meal came out to $16.80 (not including tip) and it didn't come out instantly, but that was fine by me: 1) $16.80 for a large meal is actually not that expensive. 2) Unless I'm on a peninsula, I get sketched out by bargain-priced seafood anyway. 3) Time only matters to me if I'm in a hurry, if I'm starving, if nobody checks on me while I wait, or if the food isn't that great even after having waited for it. 4) As I ate my crunchy shrimp, my mac-n-cheese dotted throughout with black pepper, and my good-for-me collard greens, I came to the conclusion that I had been cared for; that Rick really cared about what I ate. I want to liken my mentality on this cost/time-quality trade-off to my approach on farmer's markets: I'm willing to pay for freshness and effort. Waiting for the quality of something made-to-order is kind of like waiting for the seasonality of peak-ripened fruits--until summer for sun-ripened strawberries... until fall for Honeycrisp apples--because once it arrives, it's really good. I mean, can I see a show of hands for those who've been disappointed by a lukewarm (or worse, cold) French fry? I digress... At any rate, when I stepped into Fresh Fresh Seafood, I felt like I had DeLoreaned to a time when people were more polite and meals were prepared for family members with (dare I say?) love. Went here for the first time today while doing jury duty. Seen the place for years but never paid much attention. This place belongs on diners drive ins and dives. What it lacks in atmosphere, it certainly makes up in taste! Everything they offer is homemade and reminded me of good old soul food my grandparents used to make. I got the special which was a dozen fried shrimp and fries for $10.50. Fries were hand cut potatoes and awesome just like I had growing up and the shrimp were soooo fresh, not frozen. I and another juror requested that they be swift as we had limited time and it did take about 30 minutes to be served. I observed another guest eating a steamed lobster tail so huge it was about the size of a half chicken meal and that guest was also raving about the taste. This place is not pretty but the two staff/owners are extremely nice and the food taste just like home. I would definitely give them a try but it should not be your choice if you are in a rush, they are crowded, or you have a big party, it is only one chef but if you have the time and are looking for a great seafood soul food meal definitely try them out. First of all, there was no menu handed to us when we arrived, so we were verbally told the menu with no prices. We ordered grilled scallops and crab cakes, nothing fancy, and the total on the bill came to $70!!! For two people! Now we're willing to spend $70 on a nice meal, but this was a hole in the wall place, with music from a radio that was skipping, a TV placed too high to watch the Olympics- the atmosphere wasn't at all attractive, the service wasn't great, and the food was at best mediocre. Check your bill! We had a 20% gratuity added to our bill without our permission or knowledge, and then there was space for a gratuity on the check in the signature area- very dicey. If you do decide to brave this place despite 3 bad reviews, make sure to ask for a menu and check the prices. We were charged $18 PER CRAB CAKE- we ordered 2, and they weren't Baltimore's best, as the owner told us and as Baltimore magazine might have told them- they were merely overly salty crab meat with mustard mixed in. I extremely was unimpressed, and even more so knowing how expensive they were. Almost, keep in mind that sides are not included in the price of the dishes. We ordered steamed broccoli and green beans, and were charged $2.75 for each. While that may seem reasonable, keep in mind that they were tiny portions, and the green beans were previously frozen and cooked in butter with garlic powder on them. I could still feel the granules of garlic powder as I ate the green beans. Also, it took us over 30 minutes to receive our lunch, and we were the only customers in the restaurant. Based on the quality of the food, the ridiculously high prices and the long wait, we won't ever go back and we certainly hope you learn from our mistake! I gave it one star because I cannot give zero stars. It was that bad. * Pros: I can't really think of one pro... * Cons: Hugely expensive for only mediocre food P.S. They do not sell produce or anything deli-esque. When I flat out asked the owner if they sell fish, she said I could go there and eat again. The seafood sub is pretty good for the price. My lunch companion ordered Stuffed Salmon which was $35....yes $35, which was ridiculous, especially since the Salmon had bones in it. The owner boast about everything being "cooked fresh" and it seemed like he had to go catch the fish, then catch the bus back to fix it. read more

I googled seafood restaurants in Towson, MD and found Fresh Fresh Seafood. They got great reviews on the other site I checked so we gave it a try and were not disappointed! It is hard to find fresh seafood at reasonable rates and that is just what they offer. The crab cake was delicious (one was PLENTY). We also had the grilled whiting, collard greens and salmon--all very, very good. Do not miss the cream of crab soup--it was so full of huge lumps of crab that it was more like a dip--soooo yummy!! It is not a fancy place, it is a down home, husband and wife-run business. Since RIcky prepares each and every item to order, it may take longer, but how many restaurants make each item on your plate exactly like you want it? The owners are nice as can be and we will be back again for sure. One thing to note is that gratuity is added into the bill already. BYOB which is great too. read more

I'm giving them four stars. Not just for the food, but the customer service is amazing! The food is good. Try the Super Seafood Sub. It's awesome. Just know they will give you a call about an hour after you picked it up to ask how it was. That's so cool. It makes you want to return. It's a restaurant too so you can dine in. Been coming to this resturant for about 13 years started off ordering the grilled salmon then one of the other patrons told me about the mixed seafood sub and i have been getting that like every two to three week when i have the money to prices are good i have gotten to know the owner and his wife they run the shop together it looks like a hole in the wall but its has some of the best seafood in baltimore and at a reasonable price like the mixed seafood a pice of swai all lump meat crab cake shrimp and clam strips on a sub for about 11 buck at the time of writing this 6/26/17 everything is made fresh to order. Let me began by saying that I began eating at Fresh Fresh about 15 years ago. Being a single man I have eaten out a many of days and I enjoy what I enjoy. So I say that to say I allow Rick from Fresh Fresh to prepare my Seafood whenever I am in that mood. Do not eat here. Was told everything was fresh. I was shown extra large shrimp and we ordered the seafood platter. Big mistake. The clam strips we're straight out of a bag. The shrimp 20-25 count previously frozen. Frozen filet of fish fried so hard very little meat inside. I should have left when I didnt smell the shrimp being steamed. The seafood he shows is not what is being served. A truly $79 mistake, save your money do not go there. No heat in the restaurant. read more
