I've been here twice in the last year and I'm never disappointed. In May I went to Donna get my hair cut and colored for my college graduation. It was better than I expected. I have her some photos, but asked for her opinion on how I should get my hair colored. She is so knowledgable about coloring hair and went beyond what I asked for. I'm went back today to do what I've never done - chop it off! My hair was very long but it was time for something new. Wasn't too happy with my last hair coloring from another salon, so I went on to yelp to find another hairdresser. I came across Fresh Image 808 and wanted to give it a shot after reading amazing reviews about Donna. Bookings were quick and easy! On the day of the appointment, I got lost because I didn't realize she switched locations, but don't worry her old location on bethel street is a 5-10 minutes walk to her new location on bishop street! Even when I got lost, I called Donna up and she gladly gave me instructions to her new place! I really enjoyed my experience there. It was the best experience I've ever had! I was afraid it'll be awkward, but she made it feel super comfortable. I wanted a solid color as my new look, but she suggested to fade in my roots with my existing highlights. I was hesitant with her suggestions, but I gave it a shot. And the results came out amazing! Donna blow dried my hair and noticed a spot in the back of my head that was missing highlights. She gave her honest opinion on the missing patch and gave me an option to come back to fill in the part. If I wasn't for her honest opinion, I would've never saw the missing spot and left. It's been about seven weeks since I had my hair cut and color done with Donna Tokumoto and I've only had good hair days since. I finally found a great stylist. She warned me that once she cut my hair, I may only have to brush it to get ready for a day out. Well she's right! She didn't take much off (I'm growing out my hair) but it made a big difference in how it lays and moves. I love it!!! The color is feels updated and more summery. It's definitely fun getting my hair done and talking story with her... Never forced or awkward or a chore. Lastly and Maybe this is not important to you but I appreciated it... Donna is a good person with the best karma energy! While I was there she was visited by multiple friends (who all asked about her dog whos usually in salon) and she even bought a homeless person she knows lunch!!! (I don't have a regular stylist, so it's always a little nerve racking going to someone new.) Because I was going so extreme, she suggested to cut at shoulder length first. Just by that suggestion I trusted her and didn't feel worried at all. Shoulder length came out nice, but we both knew it wasn't quite there yet. So went a bit shorter, and bam! She nailed it! Donna was amazing! I had been looking for a new stylist and the reviews on yelp that I read for Donna at Fresh Image 808 led me to give her a try. She got me in the same day I asked (extra bonus, she responded immediately to the email I sent out rather than calling)! I went with only a little idea of what I wanted to do with my hair. It had been about shoulder length. I explained to Donna my issues with my hair and the general idea I had of what I wanted. I told her she had free reign to cut as much hair as she thought was good for me. She did just that! She immediately had a style that was good for my hair and face type. Yep, I'm pretty loyal when I find the right person. What keeps me coming back 8-10 times a year is that Donna never seems to get bored with doing my hair. She always listens fully to me and then, using her professional expertise, guides us through a collaboration that inevitably is wildly successful. She is willing to experiment with my ideas, but never to the point of damage or just for the money. In fact, she will sometimes draw the line and say 'no, it's not for you, you will be unhappy'. I hit the jackpot! I was randomly searching on Yelp for salons near me, and came across Fresh Image 808 Salon. I read the raving reviews and decided to make an appointment. I contacted Donna (owner/stylist), who promptly replied to my text and answered all my questions. I immediately felt like this was going to be a good experience. The day of my appointment came. I drove downtown and found the salon, which is in The Executive Center (TIP: Have someone drop you off, or park at the Ali'i Place parking garage, which is on Alakea St., before the courthouse on the right hand side of the road. Another option is to schedule your appointment on a weekend after 4:30pm and park in The Executive Center parking garage. After 4:30pm on weekends, the parking fee is a flat $4!) I entered the salon, and was warmly greeted by Donna. I had a reference photo that she suggested I bring. We discussed what I wanted to do and quickly got to it! She is hands down the most talent stylist I've ever had the pleasure of working with. She gave me the best haircut of my life! Minh is the only human I'll trust with my hair anymore. I've been going to him since early 2010 and never seen anyone else since I moved here. He's friendly and listens to what I need with my hairstyle. I believe he specializes in men's haircuts, so that means he has attention to detail. His rates are extremely reasonable, especially for the quality of the cut. And he knows my hair so well that he stops me from making bad decisions with my length and layers. I made an appointment and just did a haircut for our first meeting. She was much faster than I expected, but did a great job. Walked out of there feeling pretty and confident.
