I've always had pretty good food here but they seemed to have gone down a bit. My salad was missing some selected ingredients and my croutons were inedible bc they were so stale. Also, the Polynesian vinaigrette was just ok. Would've like a traditional type vinaigrette option. Maybe they had an off day because they're typically pretty fresh and good. We got there this morning at 11:45 parking space we got lucky with one inside heaven had my favorite melt sandwich. My wife had her favorite melt sandwich and it was like it was the last time we were there. It's a great spot. You have to try it. We ordered an latte with almond milk (no oat milk here), Asian peanut cabbage crunch salad, buffalo club with bacon on the side and a turkey Rueben sandwich, a bottle of Simply Lemonade and two bags of Miss Vickie's jalapeño kettle chips. $58.76 before they credited me $12.35 for the second buffalo club sandwich I didn't order. Be sure to check on your order if it runs long. This poor older man was getting quite agitated and told the staff he's been waiting for his carry out sandwich for 40 minutes. They found his order on a rack out front in a bag ready for him. Check your order is correct. I had ordered one buffalo chicken sandwich, but was charged for two of them. Napkins and flatware are by the fountain machine, self-serve here. The Asian peanut cabbage crunch salad looks okay, but it's quite boring. The dressing tastes like watered over the salad with a hint of peanut butter. It's quite lack luster for me. The buffalo chicken club with bacon on the side is a full sized breast of chicken, had in my mind that it would be deli meal, the real breast is better, but it was underwhelming for me. The turkey Rueben sandwich is their better menu item and the best out of our food order. The Rye is slightly toasted, but still soft as you bite into it. The kraut is plentiful as is the turkey deli meat stack. A bit more of the dressing would make it better for sure. It's still a good sandwich. read more

Just tried this place for the first time and it did not disappoint at all. I had the black and blue salad and it was delicious. My friend had a chicken salad salad and she also really enjoyed hers. This place was pretty busy on a Wednesday afternoon at noon, but the line moved swiftly and the food was ready in an appropriate amount of time. You order at the counter and your name is called to pick it up once it's ready. They did have a team member coming around for cleanup which was appreciated. I will definitely be back really soon to try something else. The location is kind of off the beaten path. But it's definitely well known considering how crowded it was. This place can be fun for lunch. There are some creative melts to try and a simple grilled cheese for the picky eater. First visit I tried the Newton which has figs, pecans, honey, melted Brie and provolone. For a sandwich with no meat it was pretty good to this happy meat eater. The picky eater enjoyed the grilled cheese but found the tomato bisque too spicy for her taste. That was ok because I helped her out with it as well. Not sure it meets the definition of a bisque because it was so thick but I would buy cups of it to take home for tomato sauce. Delicious and spicy. Add some ground beef and/or Italian sausage and pour it over spaghetti. It reminded me of the tomato bisque at Blue Tavern. Breakfast on the second visit was a different matter. I don't think omelettes are their forte and my wife's bacon and egg sandwich didn't look much better since she eschewed the cheese that normally would hold everything together. I might give them a go with their scrambles if I was here at breakfast time again but would prefer to just concentrate on lunch here. The space is comfortable for one big room. So why am I giving this restaurant a TWO star Rating? Whoever owns this establishment needs to change the policy so that if you come in at any time you can buy sandwich having to wait till 11 AM to buy a sandwich is stupid. I wanted to buy a sandwich but I had to buy an omelette why be open if you're not gonna sell people what they want when they want it makes no business sense to me? I wanted hot sauce they had no hot sauce I had to spend $.25 to my buffalo sauce. Service was slow nobody was ahead of us it should not take that long to get a latte made. Food was OK. I wouldhave like to have cooked a little longer. I am just amazed at this place that so many stars on yelp. What a nice little find in one of the oddest locations I've seen for a restaurant. The locations could never be seen from the street. As a matter of fact, I came across it when I went to get some lab work done and then forgot about it because ....well....I don't get lab work done too often. I finally bookmarked it on Yelp and made a visit. It is a small cafe style restaurant that has both indoor and outdoor seating. It would also be appropriate for someone who needed a quiet place to do some computer work and have a snack and a cup of coffee. It wasn't busy but we had to wait about 15 minutes for our order. After tasting how delicious it was, the wait was completely worth it. I ordered the salmon benefit with scrambled eggs instead of poached eggs. It was the freshest I've ever tasted. The hollandaise sauce tasted homemade and it was a perfect compliment to my dish. All of the menu items look very appetizing and they are interesting. The menu does not consist of basic and common combinations that can be found at any given restaurant. This place has my vote and I cannot wait to return. read more

Visited this restaurant for the first time a month or so ago (for breakfast). Wanted to return to sample the lunch items. Met a friend there for lunch; she ordered a chicken salad sandwich, which she said was tasty. I ordered the black and blue caesar salad. The wait was long (as was the case when I ordered breakfast). My friend received her sandwich and I was still waiting on my salad. We dined inside, but I didn't hear my name called. We both finally noticed a salad on the counter, but also realized that customers were talking over the salad, items were given to customers by the staff, all the while reaching over this lone salad that was sitting out in the open. I finally went to the front to ask about my order and the young lady said that the salad on the counter was mine - which I didn't want at this time because of the traffic that had been happening over the salad! When I asked for another salad (and explained why I didn't want that one, all three young ladies who were at the front looked at me as if I had a third eye)! Who wants food that other people have been talking and reaching over? Perhaps others don't mind random customers reaching over their food items, but I certainly do - and I am shocked that someone in the food industry doesn't understand this. They brought a salad to my table, but at that point, I realized that I didn't even know if they fixed me a fresh salad - or if they simply brought me back the exact same salad. I came here for lunch to catch up with a few friends. I got the Asian Cabbage salad because it had peanut dressing, and other fixings I like. To add chicken was only a $1 more, so I went for it. Lettuce rejoice!! There's omni carnivore choices as well including this super juicy turkey club with really nice thick cut bacon. Oh my. Special sandwich, that. Cilantro slaw stands out as particularly nice and the Gouda mac and cheese is simply divine. Something by which all future mac and cheeses shall be compared. Coffee's so nice were they local, they'd definitely make the list of coffee rounds. And look at that, smooth and creamy cold brew coffee without the big bucks prices. Delicious. Have always had intentions on trying this oace but never got around to until today. Because I've been on a more health conscious diet I have been trying to visit places with healthy food this was a perfect option. I decided on the Asian salad and although I've never been big on salads this one was fantastic. I also had the gouda mac and cheese and I was very impressed with it. This is a nice little hidden lunch spot many people don't even know about it. I will definitely be back again to try some of their sandwiches. Coworker got a salad and there wasn't dressing on it (or so light she couldn't taste). She asked for dressing and the worker told her it was already on there...she had dressed it herself. Ok so she kept trying to eat it. Finally went back to counter to ask for a little more dressing to which they said fine but that will be 50 cents. Really?? I've been here twice and each time I wanted to like it but it's just not good (to me). I've tried the caprese melt it was kind of gross the pesto was good but the balsamic dressing is disgusting it's super sweet and ruins the whole sandwich also my sandwich had like 12 tomato slices on it which just felt silly. I've also had the chicken salad sandwich that was alright but not something I'd get again because it's very bland. The "street corn" is an absolute NO. The Mac and cheese is pretty good. And the peach tea they have is nice and refreshing. My mom got the chicken-salad salad and that was pretty good, the dressing that comes on it is delicious. Came back yesterday after almost two years from my first experience. I had an appointment nearby and had the family with me, so in we went. The decor seems less sterile. There were some artwork items on the wall that was maybe there on my prior visit, but it felt different. The place also had people there, so it didn't seem to empty and had a little more of a normal noise tone than my prior visit. We ordered the Club and the Cuban and these were very different than the sandwich I had long ago. These were packed full of meat and both had a fantastic flavor. Staff continues to be nice and helpful, which is also a good sign. With the prices being so reasonable, and the great sandwiches, we will be coming back to this establishment again soon. read more

Wow! What a great find. In from out of town and found this place on Yelp. I was in the mood for a sandwich. They have so many interesting sandwiches choices I had trouble deciding. I picked the Hawaiian. Black Forest Ham, applewood bacon, pineapple, melted sharp cheddar on sourdough bread. It was wonderful! I got the Tomato Bisque to go with it and it was good. A little spicy (I'm a wimp on "spicy" so don't let me fool you. Most people would not think it's spicy) All and all a great lunch before I head back to the airport. I don't know how if can't be since it's Gouda Mac and cheese, bacon and cheddar melted together grilled cheese style. Amazing!! The pick up and check out process is incredibly simple and the staff always friendly. PSA the tomato soup is super chunky and a little spicy. This is our favorite kind because it is very obviously a sandwich dipper type of soup. It's a must for the plain grilled cheese or the club sandwich. Had I not mentioned the club sandwich has garlic aioli on it that makes it pure heaven? This hidden gem is highly underrated and makes perfect comfort food. If it had not been for the hype surrounding this place (especially within the Yelp community) I do not know if I would have found Freshroots because it is tucked away in a mostly medical complex off of Mahan. I find it very fitting that this restaurant is surrounded by medical facilities because after you fall in love with their exquisite menu items you will definitely need the attention of a qualified clinician. What I love most about this place is they keep it 100 in their name of fresh. Often times as a recent college graduate I still find my friends wanting to eat junk like we did back in undergrad, but since coming to medical school I have been trying to find a healthier lifestyle built around good food. Freshroots gives me exactly what I am looking for with quality and fresh delivered at a fair price with a smile. It took me a while to make it to this place once I happened upon the golden knowledge of its existence because they are closed after 3pm as well as on weekends. I might have had to make some adjustments to my schedule to make the trip, but I would do it again faster than a tachycardic heartbeat. My choice for this first pass metabolism was the grilled chicken caesar salad, which left both my belly and my wallet very happy. Just because I am such a fan and was in need of an afternoon pickup I also opted for some of their Lucky Goat coffee, which has quickly become a favorite of my unique to Tallahassee. I definitely look forward to making a trip back to Freshroots ASAP because there is so much more to this case that I need to discover. I have barely even scratched the surface of this hidden treasure, but I am already very confident that this restaurant is one of a kind and one that will keep me and anyone lucky enough to try it coming back. read more
