Well it wasn't actually a warm day, but when the urge to have ice cream hits you, you must comply. We've driven by Frey's many times & there's always a crowd outside. This visit was quieterbut still had a steady line of customers. I went with the chocolate and vanilla swirl cone. That's my standard choice unless I decide to get adventurous. I was pleasantly surprised how creamy and rich the ice cream was. Both flavors had distinct tastes without overpowering each other. So good! First time visit after watching a HS football game. My youngest chose their favorite, a scoop of Perry's Super Hero, my oldest chose their standby, vanilla/chocolate custard twist, and I enjoyed a frozen banana dipped in peanut butter with nuts. This ice cream stand is a summer must! They serve hard and soft ice creams. I was very impressed finding out they serve frozen yogurt. Everyday they have new flavors of soft ice cream. So far I have only had the cherry/vanilla yogurt swirl. Other flavors I have seen on the marquee: pineapple, pistachio, & mango. Cool facts: They are located on a very busy street there is plenty of parking. There is a grassy area behind the store where you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. The only downside is that I wish they opened a little earlier. They start at noon and some how I am also driving by at 11:30. The wait times can vary it all depends what time you go the line is either really long or there's no one there. This ice cream place has lots to offer. Soft serve, hard ice cream, milkshakes, floats, sundaes, cakes, different types of cones and so much more. It is right on Transit rd so it's always busy. The prices are reasonable. There is a big lawn area with benches and a train to play on for kids. There is no inside seating. There are porta-potties on site. Today I got a medium soft serve vanilla/strawberry twist with rainbow sprinkles in a cone. They have a flavor of the week for soft serve and this was it. It was $3.50 for the ice cream then 60 cents for the sprinkles so it was $4.10. It was really good. The worker that waited on me was friendly, quick and efficient. I'll definitely be back. read more

It would be better if it were called Free Tasty Treat, because then you wouldn't have to pay, but that's about as realistic as Lockport having WNY's best Italian restaurant. Oh wait... Sebastian Frey was a goalkeeper for Parma in Italy (the place where Parmesan and Parma ham come from), but he retired to Buffalo (because he likes snow?), and opened this place. He didn't do a very good job of replicating a Gelato shop though. I had the Italian Ice here (lemon) and it wasn't too bad... it wasn't too memorable either, I probably wouldn't get it again. In fact I threw it out after a few tastes because it wasn't worth the calories... it tasted a bit fake. The frozen yogurt itself was pretty standard really (Dr. Evil style). I have to drive a ways to get here but it's worth it. Their custard is so creamy and tasty. They do have lemon ice, sundaes, splits, ice cream but as far as I'm concerned the reason to go is for the custard. They always have a special flavor of the week.....my favorite is cinnamon/vanilla swirl, closely followed by orange/vanilla swirl. The portion you get is BIG, huge even! The large is hard to hold, it's top heavy....but I love it so much I always go for large. The price is very reasonable especially for the portion size. There are picnic tables out back in a nice setting with shade and plenty of easy parking. Even if there's a line you won't wait long, quick service, friendly servers.... wonderful custard!! read more

My wife is obsessed with Tasty Treat. She grew up in Lockport and used to come here all the time with her family. Her parents still live in Lockport and in the warmer months she insists we stop here whenever we are out. What i like is that they have a rotating specialty soft serve flavor. We love driving by and taking a look at what it is (they post it on the sign by the street). This time is was pumpkin-vanilla, and my wife's eyes lit up like a jack-o-lantern. Their soft serve is good, but not great in my opinion. I got a chocolate/vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles on a sugar cone, size small. The portion was generous and everything tasted good. The soft serve was a little firmer than i normally like, and it wasn't as chocolate as i would have hoped. But the texture of the cream was on point and it was priced really reasonably. Needless to say we will always be returning here and it is consistently good, so I'm not mad. read more

Decided to stop by tonight because the wife and I were feeling like a little ice cream while in the area. This was my first time here. The shop itself is very much in the dairy queen mold, where they have a couple of walk up WI does for ordering and no indoor seating. They carry about 3 dozen Perry's ice cream flavors and you can do all sorts of things with them. We opted for a couple of milkshakes because we still had a long drive home and honestly a nice vanilla milkshake was what I had in mind before we even stopped. My wife got chocolate and peanut butter and said it was great. Nice place, good prices, quality ice cream.. We'll be back! read more

Was looking forward to their "re-reopening" today. Got to the window and was informed you had to order on the phone then go to a window to pay, then go to another window to wait to pick up your order. WTF? This makes no sense at all. Hopefully this was mandated by some lunatic from the government which allowed them to reopen and not local management (which is very nice). Products are great and help is friendly. Did we wait? Noooooooo. Were other people leaving without ordering? Yessssss. So silly of a set up. Top's or Weg's have the ice cream for a lot less anyway without the hassle. Will be back but not until the BS is dispensed with. OK, update 4 hours later....like fools we really wanted ice cream; hence we tried the place again. It was worst than before. Mass confusion as to who ordered what via what. A gentlemen, I believe the owner was walking around the parking lot yelling out people's names carrying their orders; clerks yelling out names, people not responding. There must have been 50 people waiting. The upside was it was amusing how dysfunctional a place could be on what was their opening day. Pretty pathetic. Staff as always very polite and ice cream good, but not good enough until the morons straightens their act out. Luckily for them it's supposed to rain tomorrow and will hopefully cut down on the masses so they can regroup and rethink this debacle. Also there were folks waiting in line without any facial protection and the staff not covering their nose. Next time, if there will be one, I'll notify the Sheriff. read more

We stopped in after our boys' football games to celebrate their wins. This ice cream stand offers so many different kinds of yummy frozen treats, it was hard to decide what to order! There are great Italian ice/slushy flavors if you don't want actual ice cream, and there are both scooped and soft serve ice cream options as well. I didn't see any non-dairy ice cream flavors, so if you are lactose intolerant or have a dairy-free diet, you may have to stick with the shaved ice treats. Between the four of us, we each ordered something different and throughly enjoyed it all! I ended up ordering a Reese's arctic swirl. I normally eat dairy free but didn't want ice this time, so I cheated on the diet (I'm human!) I got the average size but it was almost too much! I really struggled to finish it, so I can't imagine someone putting away a large! It was so thick and very rich. Absolutely delicious and it hit the spot on a hot day. Tasty Treat is an ice cream staple for me. I always look forward to when they are opening and I know I will make it there at least once. I am a sucker for their peanut butter cup sundae. Their delicious soft serve vanilla, with chocolate sauce and peanut butter sauce, a peanut butter cup, whipped cream and a smile on my face! They are always very friendly, attentive and willing to help when you order. They have different specials, however I don't stray too far from my usual. The ice cream is delicious and they have some of the best smoothies out there. My wife goes off the menu and does a strawberry banana smoothie which is to die for! This is a fantastic roadside ice cream place! Lee and I decided to spend the day riding the Erie Canal Bike Path, and we had spotted this place on the drive in. We promised ourselves that we would give this place a try on the way back. I'm glad we did. We both got twist cones, and they were delicious frozen custard, which has a very distinctive mouthfeel. They've got a nice creamy mix, and a good chocolate flavor. It's a pretty simple shack on the side of the road, but they also have a very nice park-like area to sit in and consume your tasty treat, as well as a bathroom. The staff is always wonderful and they have a fantastic assortment of frozen treats at *very* reasonable prices! Each week there is a "Flavor of the Week" announced and occasionally they'll throw on free sprinkles for holidays, special occasions, etc. Recommendations? It was my birthday and I always get an ice cream cake! We usually just get one from the grocery store or another local ice cream place but this year we decided to order one from Tasty Treat and boy were we glad we did!! We have always liked their ice cream anytime we have stopped in so I didn't have any doubts that their cakes would be anything less than awesome! I looked up their cakes online and chose their " Dirt Cake". The cake was described as having a chocolate ice cream bottom, think fudge and cookie chunk center with the vanilla ice cream top! My husband ordered it 2 days in advance and I picked it up on my birthday. The total was $23! Much cheaper than the other places or for a frozen one from the grocery store that has been sitting there for who knows how long! I wish I had remembered to take a picture! It had "dirt", cookie crumbs, sprinkled on top along with gummy worms and whipped cream! I couldn't wait to try it! After dinner with the family, the kids couldn't wait anymore so we cut into it! They aren't kidding around with the thick fudge and cookie center! This was hands down the best ice cream cake we had ever had! This will be our place to order from now on!! A nice old-fashioned ice cream stand. While on a visit to the Niagara area, we wanted to sample some frozen custard which is hard to find in Florida. Really hoped to get to Hibbards in Lewiston, but were staying in Lockport for a family funeral so tried Tasty Treat. An impressive repetoire of flavors of ice cream and yogurt with shakes, sundaes and other variations. Not many custard options. Tried butter rum that was lightly flavored and not as creamy as I remember childhood versions. But enjoyed the cone and will continue the frozen custard quest in Florida now. Three western New York food specialties have been tested in Florida by snowbirds: Beef on Kummelweck (Honeys in Tampa), frozen custard (Hibbards in Weston/Ft. Luderdale) and Buffalo wings every where......one huge hit out of 3 is as good as ubiquitous Philly Cheese Steak or KC ribs. read more

Not my favorite ice cream stand, but for the location, it's good enough. I've been coming here since I was a child. It's not expensive, but it's not cheap either. (If you're not from the Buffalo area, know pretty much every ice cream stand in the area serves Perry's brand ice cream, that is locally made here.) I'm guessing their pricing is based on the bills they have to pay to keep their business open obviously. This particular one has smaller portions than a lot of the others. I don't feel like I'm getting a great deal when I come here. They do have seasonal flavors and make sundaes based on the holidays and things going on which is nice. One thing that really irks me is for some reason their soft serve machine seems to favor vanilla. They make different flavors of soft serve every week, but instead of let's say pumpkin soft serve, it's always half vanilla, like a twist. That's fine, but you get WAY more vanilla than the other flavor and I find that annoying. I am wanting the flavor, not vanilla. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating and a wooden train in the backyard that the kids can sit or play on. Porta potty's are the only bathrooms they have, which I refuse to use because porta potty's gross me out, but it's not a big deal for me, where it's located there are lots of other stores and businesses around and I usually have errands to run when I stop here anyhow so I just use their bathroom if I need to. There aren't real sinks anywhere either so if you need to clean a sticky child I hope you brought some baby wipes. There is no where to clean up your child or change a diaper except out in the open. As you can see they could really do some upgrades and I wish they would adjust the vanilla and flavored twist ratio on their machine. I asked once if they were aware of the ratio or if it could be changed and my comment/question went ignored. They have recently implemented accepting of credit cards, they used to be cash only, which is getting difficult to accommodate in today's world. We never have cash on us so it definitely kept us from choosing this ice cream stand more than once. Now that's not a problem. Also if you're not from here know this is located on the busiest road in the area, if you have small children pay very close attention and hold their hands so they don't run into the road. It's 4 lanes of nonstop 45-55 mile per hour traffic. It is pet friendly so as long as you have a well behaved, leashed dog, you can certainly bring them along! read more

Delicious! I've been itching to try this place as I loooove area ice cream shops and it did not disappoint. At first it seemed a little pricey but I got a peach Melba sundae and when I saw they were not shy with toppings, it was priced just right - and worth it.
