Mecca of booze... Prices are about same as any other liquor store, but they have a HUGE wine selection. Not only other countries & states, but many of the IL wine makers are featured here as well. They offer wine tastings on Saturday afternoon (call to confirm time) and are very generous with tasting (wink, wink). I also like the mix-N-match feature for beer. They offer many, many different beers that I would normally never try if I had to buy 6 at a time. But with the mix-N-match pack I can try 6 different beers to see if I like them. Love it! They have a large walk-in cooler with about half of all the kinds of beer they offer, a section of make your own six-pack and a great variety of beers (brands and styles). They also have tons of the mini bottles of liquor (a great way to find a good whiskey without buying a whole bottle), lemons and limes for mixed drinks (no oranges), a cheese section to accompany wine, and a small section of cigars near the register. They're only $10 for any six you choose, which considering the prices of some of the choices, is a bargain. (Just don't fill your pack up with Budweiser... which IS an option.) They also have a huge selection of other beers, both in six packs and individual bottles. If only I had an unlimited amount of money and livers... Overall, great place to shop for booze. I imagine it'd also be a good place to hole up if there's ever a zombie apocalypse. read more

Unfortunately the prices here are no better than Meijer or the grocery stores, but on every other measure this wins. Excellent, extensive cold beer selection and a very decent wine stock. Hard liquors, too, although those aren't my speed. Perhaps one day I'll pick up a limoncello for those special occasions. Chicago folks: think Binny's. Smaller, but absolutely in the same category. I am a beer fan, so I'll primarily focus on that. First of all, there is plenty of space in here. A good portion of the store is devoted to wine and liquor and rightfully so. There are other related knick-knacks and mixers, but not a lot. As far as the beer goes, it is still the best beer selection that I know of in the Bloomington area. Binny's has come recently, but they are still building their stock and in my opinion aren't quite on par just yet. They have a lot of bombers for craft beers and their management clearly is in tune with current releases in the craft industry because they have always answered my specific questions well. They have an okay pick your own 6 pack section, there are a lot of macrobrews and out of season beers. Check dates -- I had an outdated one that I didn't notice until after purchasing, which is why I docked one star. Overall, a good, knowledgeable staff and an unbeaten selection in the area. Prices are fine, good beer and spirits don't come cheaply. read more

$10 tour of the States via beer! The Mix-a-six option is the perfect way to get those "too heavy to drink more than one" type beers without having to buy a whole six of them. You can get six different awesome beers for $10, instead of six of the same awesome beer for an almost identical price. Definitely a great way to do your beer. Plus, the liquor selection is just ridiculous. I'm still waiting for them to get the Bacardi Havana Club in stock, but in the mean time, Kraken, Tommy Bahama and Blackheart will do. I stopped here in hopes of getting a good assortment of drinks for the after wedding hijinks. There aren't any near me so I wasn't sure what to expect, but boy oh boy was it a nice find. I am a beer nut, so I only explored the beer selection which was outstanding. They carry a lot of hard to find beers. The pick your own 6 pack selection is decent, but worth taking a few min to look over if you enjoy sampling. They have a great selection of bombers (my personal favorite). This extremely large facility houses a huge selection of wine and wine accessories. They also have wine tasting on certain Saturdays for a small fee. They also hold every type of whiskey and beer. Stopped in because I know they home brew supplies. Most of the prices (outside of the beer kits) are cheaper than you can get online and they have a very fair selection. I like being able to stop in for beer and pick up some extra bottle caps or smalls in the home brew section. Their beer selection is huge and very impressive. However, I am knocking them two stars because their prices are more expensive than some of their competitors and their mix six for $9.99 has a ton of out dated beers in it and a bland selection. I picked up two beers that I was interested in this wee and both had expired with the Best By date in May. The selection in the mix six isn't that exciting either....Budweiser... Overall, it is a great place to pick up some unique craft brews, wine and cheese but I only typically go there for something that I am looking for or home brew stuff. read more

They have the widest selection of beer, wine, and liquor I've found in town. The prices are about the same as everywhere else. The staff is very friendly, and if they don't have something in stock, they've always been very willing to check with their suppliers about getting it. I usually go on Saturday afternoons since they have free beer and wine tastings from 1-5 pm every Saturday. If you sign up for their email list, they'll even let you know on Friday what they'll sample the next day. Also, signing up for the mailing list gets you nice discounts on their featured wines. I also brew beer and it is a great place to pick up ingredients at a reasonable price. The turnover of the ingredients isn't too bad, so you don't usually have to worry about old stuff. All in all it's a good place to go to browse if you want to try something new and different. read more

Friar Tuck's is easily the best liquor store in town, whether you like wine, beer, or liquor. I am a huge beer fan, and their selection is enormous, with micro and macro brews alike, from all over the world and tons from the U.S. The wine selection is also excellent and at every price point, from $5 swill to $200 Bordeaux. As someone else mentioned, they do tastings every Saturday (1-5pm, I think), so you can try new things. The thing that really blows me away is their liquor selection...They...have...EVERYTHING. From obscure cordials from the Himalayas to that abomination Pinnacle Cotton Candy Vodka. Great Scotch and tequila selections in particular, and there is always someone around who knows their stuff, the customer service in general is fab, and that's where they really have Binny's beat. About a two years ago I asked about a whisky I'd tried in Scotland. They guy didn't think they had it and I didn't worry about it since it was a small distiller. Low and behold, about 10 minutes later the guy yells from the back of the store as I am checking out, "Found it!!" He had gone and looked on the shelves, didn't see it, but still searched their system and found a bottle someplace in the back store room. They had one bottle, that had been there for a few years, and they sold it to me for the old price ($40 when I know it retails for around $60 now). I was stunned and very happy. While that is a good story, it is consistent with the service I have gotten there on more mundane trips as well. Prices are reasonable and consistent with other outlets - not high, not low. read more

Friar Tuck's is the BEST liquor store in Peoria. They have more beer than any other store I have been to. The selection is second to none. My review is based solely on their beer selection as I'm not a big liquor drinker. They also have a large section for home brewing. Up until last week, I would have given Friar Tuck 5 stars. The selection is great and the prices aren't bad. However, I unkowingly ingested expired (9 MONTHS EXPIRED!!!) beer when I chose the mix-a-six. I didn't even think to check the dates! Since it was a new beer to me, I didn't know if the flavor was on/off. I was up sick all night. I checked the dates on the other unopened 5 beers and it turned out 4 out of my 6 beers were at least 3 months past their expiration. I have since gone back to purchase my favorite stout, however each bottle on the shelf had an expiration of December 2009. I had returned my mix-a-six and received a refund without problem. I will still shop here if I need to purchase something I can't find elsewhere, but I check the dates dilligently now. read more

Best selection of beer, wine and spirits in town bar none. The only thing better than their selection is the knowledgable staff. I was looking for a little used south American liquor (cachaca) that no one else in town had and they had 3 brands! My only knock is the high prices, however if you want domestic beer or ho-hum wine this is not where you want to go anyway. read more

My Boyfriend & I have always went to Friar Tucks for our alcohol beverage needs for "special" occasions. Always good prices & found what we needed! As of until last night... Went to Friar Tucks looking for a certain beverage that just came out about a month ago... When I asked the 2 guys about it at the counter... They basically laughed at me :/ I was looking for Pauly D Remix. Yes... Pauly D from the Jersey Shore... I know some people don't like the show, but when u are working for a liquor business that maybe be associated with it at some point in time, I expect them to be professional about it! First, the bigger guy behind the counter was very rude!! Asking do u really watch that show? As if he was offended by it... Needless to know they could benefit as a business from it!! He quickly replied that they don't carry that stuff. The employee that was helping me called the manager, as I had asked, to see if they had actually carried it... The manager was very nice respectable & treated a costumer the way they should be... With respect!!! No they didn't have it, but he said if I found it to please let him know so they could order it. So I went on my way... Binny's just opened in town & thought I'd give them a try since they were new & might have a more up to date selection. They in fact had it & even let me know that Skinny Girl made it, without laughing because it was from a reality TV show. I made my purchase & very happy went on my way & made sure to call the manager @ friar tucks to let them know I have found it.
