John is not only a great guy, he is a stellar craftsman. He was forthright in consulting with us to determine the correct Marmoleum product to use in our kitchen and nook. We openly discussed the pros and cons of colors and sheets versus tiles. We have a 1931 Spanish Bungalow with original cabinets and a swing door to the dining room. Our goal is to keep the charm of this classic Dooley design and architecture. The previous owner did a great job achieving this goal by installing black and white small tile counter and backsplash. We landed on using a similar black speckled 13" tile to the existing linoleum floor. John painstakingly removed the old tile and subfloor only to uncover the original 1931 linoleum! It was hideously charming. The new underlayment is high quality birch ply made in Ukraine! John meticulously cut the tile to fit the intricate door frames using a clever technique. He gave us two choices for solving the transition to the slightly lower original matchstick oak floors; a oak "T" in place of the old aluminum strips or a clever flush solution that required another clever technique using the cement as sloped underlayment. Really amazing. I am overwhelmed with joy looking at my new floor! I don't know where to start when describing how fabulous it is to work with this talented gentleman. First of all, Mr. Frick is the neatest, cleanest,and unobtrusive of all contractors I have ever worked with. He even treats his tools with love and care. He was courteous and efficient, and the prices he quoted me were very fair. He showed up exactly when he said he would and he did everything he said he would, except he finished a day early.The price quoted me was the price charged and their were no surprises. He moved all the really heavy kitchen furniture and appliances with great care brought his own wooden platforms to place them on so they wouldn't damage floors in other rooms. He put up with working in a very small space with a lot of stuff piled up, and two people+ three dogs running around. My kitchen floor is so beautiful it feels almost like having a brand new kitchen! The only complaint I have is the floor looks so great the much-needed paint job on the cupboards is painfully obvious. I had had my kitchen floor done before, but it didn't hold up. This time I expect I will have a beautiful floor for a long time to come. I have a 1920's bungalow and I wanted something retro looking in the way of vinyl industrial tile, or marmoleum. Even though Mr. Frick really likes to work with marmoleum, he advised me that the heavy traffic through my kitchen with big dogs and their big claws might damage the marmoleum and directed me to some amazing vinyl industrial-grade tile. He was very thorough in putting a skim coat over the existing flooring that was in good shape, and replaced any flooring that was damaged before laying the tile. The tile was laid so nicely that I can barely see any seams, and the baseboard is beautiful. He also replaced my beat up wooden threshold with a new wooden one near the wood floor, and a metal one near the back door (which is appropriate) without my prompting or asking. I highly recommend Frick Flooring. We used another company two years ago and Frick Flooring is in another league of quality and customer service! We received bids from three different companies. John from Frick Flooring was the only person to realize that our floor was 1/2" lower than another adjoining floor! His bid came in higher, but it was because he understood what was needed. It was obvious that the other bidders would have to add in costs later, only because they forgot something. We had existing laminate we had to match and we replaced carpet with the new matching laminate. He was helpful to suggest that we purchase the laminate through alternative resources since it's a rare product (two years old) - and we did. He called me and walked me through exactly what was needed so we could have perfect flooring. As I sit here and look at the end result, I want you to know that it looks better than the two year old laminate and he took much better care to make sure each aspect of the flooring looks nice. He even took special care to fit the laminate to our uniquely shaped fireplace (old '70's rocks). It's amazing how the flooring fits into the rocks seamlessly. Frick Flooring is the best, hands down and I will always go to John Frick for any flooring jobs in the future. I've worked in the construction industry for a decade (large infrastructure projects where flooring is not required) and he really does a stand up job at every level, from getting a quote (even honestly telling me that my job was a small job and that I should try other options, I was in a bind and asked him to help and am I ever glad that I did), executing the work, and to following up post work. He takes great pride in his craftsmanship and I only wish he did carpeting and all kinds of other contracting work as contractors and detailed as him are hard to find. Then we remodeled and had to tear out structures that left a couple of holes in the floor. John was kind enough to come out and do a repair with our left over marmoleum on these spots. I am piling on with the other 5-star ratings, for a gnarly project that John Frick turned into a gorgeous floor a couple of years ago. We were renovating a 1946-era bathroom that had a floor that needed to be leveled before marmoleum could go on it. Little did I know that the existing vinyl flooring (I know!) was glued to some linoleum tile, which had been adhered to the original ceramic tile floor, which was laid down with grout. Ugh. Mr. Frick assessed the situation, came up with a plan to get rid of all of the old stuff, level the floor (no small task) and expertly install the marmoleum. He was gracious and polite and neat and clean. His prices were very reasonable, and his skills were top notch. We are essentially finished with our renovations, but if we ever needed to do anything to a floor, I would call him in a heartbeat. read more

Had Mr. Frick give me a bid for new kitchen flooring. He said it would be perfect when done. Had him install it on 9/27/13. He was right, it was perfect. He takes his time and works very carefully. When done, he cleans up everything and leaves the area looking spotless. I will have him install new flooring in my bathroom in about a month. I definitely recommend him. He's the best. P.S. Dealing with John was probably the highlight of our whole kitchen remodel, he was just such a pleasant person to work with! First off, he gave us great advice when we were going through the process of choosing tile colors and patterns. When it came to installation, he was extremely meticulous about everything from the demo of our old floors to the installation of the new subfloor and new flooring. The job really turned out absolutely perfect!! The real kicker occurred immediately after he installed our beautiful floors, when our contractors accidentally gouged several tiles in the process of installing our stove.
