For midtown east, this place is very hip and modern, like a place you would find downtown. Being that it's called Frida Midtown it's safe to assume they have another location somewhere but didn't do a deep dive on the subject. Reservation was pretty easy to get, for a Thursday night, 7:15. The place was full, and had a buzzy vibe. We started with a round of cocktails. Can't remember what my friend got but I got the user- interactive Lychee Pea Martini. I enjoyed popping the bubble on that thing and it was quite good. We started with the Guac and Esquites, we loved the guacamole, and my friend loved her app. I thoroughly enjoyed the Birria Tijuana Style Tacos, and my friend liked the Chicken con Mole. And last but not least, we were able to manage to squeeze into our stomachs the flan which we both loved. If you're looking for a happening place with good food and loud convo, then come here. It was easy to get a reservation here on short notice. It got super loud (club like) when they were celebrating a birthday which was fun the first time but got old fast. Neither my friend nor I were a fan of our drinks. He got the seasonal cocktail and it was just full of crushed ice. My margarita was disappointing. The guacamole was good but super small. Came here for Sunday lunch not realizing it was restaurant week. You can tell the waiter loves his job, he was very friendly and helpful. Decor instead was also approachable and beautiful, a homage to Frida but not too overt. Yes a hundred times over. Frida midtown hits all the marks and is a great place for a date, small gathering or birthday party. Atmosphere: - Absolutely loved the vibe. Clean, vibrant, trendy, and comfortable. It's hard to capture the essence is words, but from start to finish what a great experience was had. The have some more clubby music come on at a certain point of the night which adds to the trendy vibe. Service: - Service was fantastic. Everyone from the server to the food delivery staff was friendly and attentive. Food: - Yes, yes and yes. I really liked to the concept of the pre-fixe menu along with a full menu. It really allowed us to explore more options. We had one pre-fixe menu item and one alla carte. - Appetizers: Esquites and a watermelon salad. The esquites was perfect. All of the right spicing, not terribly spicy and just a bomb of delicious flavors. The salad was a destructed salad which was nicely presented and a good combination of flavors. It took a bit more of an effort to eat, but was worth it. - Entrees: Birria tacos and a pulled chicken dish similar to ropa vieja (it's not on the menu currently). Both dishes had powerful flavor profiles. The meat was tender and we every bite of our plates. - Dessert: Tres leches. Despite being completely full, we couldn't pass up tres leches. The cake was well soaked and the overall flavor was great and not overly sleep. Drinks: - The lychee martini is a show in a glass and is topped with a smoke filled bubble that the customer is expected to pop. It doesn't really matter why I was in NY, although seeing Hadestown AND Barry Manilow on the same night might set the stage a bit. So yes. Hit Manhattan hard on a Friday night, but dinner first and opted for an early reservation at Frida Midtown. Mole. I could end it here. I was never drawn to mole, but I was teetering on the edge of a crazy night so I took a leap, and so happy that I did! We started with the guacamole (phenomenal), and then my mushroom enchilada arrived. Honestly, MUSHROOMS. I was in heaven. Such a satisfying bite and without the over powering mushroomness that you sometimes taste. I would run back to this Peruvian/Mexican paradise for just this dish. I'm embarrassed to say that I have zero memories of what my daughter ordered. THAT'S how delicious this enchilada was, and how little focus I had on her meal. (Horrid Mum Award). I had a margarita that was served beautifully and exactly as I asked w no salt/straight up and in a gorgeous glass (think: a lovely glass of aged bourbon or scotch, not the traditional margarita glass you are normally given). It was a proper cocktail. The wait staff were quiet, elegant even and complemented the restaurant's interior and vibe. I was so focused on our amazing night ahead that I hadn't taken the time to anticipate dinner. What a happy surprise! This was my 2nd time coming here. Upon entering into this establishment late Friday afternoon, there is a crowd of 8 people cluttering the main entrance. I made my way through to the bar, which was quite empty with the exception of a lot of drunk guys just hanging out by the bar... The bartenders were not attentive at all (seemed they were newbie bartenders). I have to get their attention to get a drink. Two strikes right there. Was put off by this and left after one drink. My girls and I found this at random. They were able to accommodate without a reservation. The mango margarita was delicious. I was obsessed with my dish: Mar y Tierra Tacos! Run...don't walk! I found this restaurant on social media. Excited to see that not only was it a Mexican/Peruvian fusion restaurant but a Frida Kahlo theme. Being it was minutes away from my job location I convinced my co-workers to go & check it out. Frida Midtown has a beautiful exterior and interior decor that so inviting it sets the tone for an magical dining experience. We took advantage to their happy hour menu. Get there early for happy hour because it can only be used at the bar. Seats are limited at the bar; 7 seats. The menu was well price for the flavorful food options they offered. Drinks were were playful, flavorful and delicious. This 3rd place I have experienced a well balanced caipirinhas. I could not get enough of them. I also tried their lychee pea martini which was just as fun as it looks, with its smoky bubble. The Rivera was sweet n tart like a pineapple should and as deco they add a frozen pop. Felt like a grown up kids drink..loved it!! Staff were all great and attentive. Highly recommend that you make reservations for a table because I witnessed how quickly the restaurant got full. We enjoyed happy hour so much that we wanted to continue it by having dinner but all tables were reserved. Sadly we decided to end our night. The only reason I gave it a four star is because their hours are set times. Lunch is 12-3:30pm The restaurant closes their doors and reopens at 5pm. This is the time all staff members will take their break and prepares for dinner. I guess you can say it's their siesta time. I learned of this because we were taken back, being that we arrived at 4pm, we were turned away asked to return at 5pm. I'm accustom to Happy Hour being 4pm-7pm. So be sure to line up because 5pm the only bar area, with only 7 seats, it will fill up quickly if you wish take of their happy hour. Very attentive and made sure table was clean in between courses. The ceviche is a standout and best dish of the meal. The ribeye had nonexistent sear but was a good medium rare. It was easy to make reservations on Yelp, the service was extremely attentive and friendly, and our food came out so quickly. Food: We had the chips and guac - the guac was really good but slightly spicy even though we got mild. For my dish, I got the birria tacos and they were SO GOOD I highly recommend! My boyfriend got the enchiladas with rice and beans and he enjoyed it as well. Really liked this place the second time around. We ate inside and the decor is gorgeous. Service is really good and quick, and the staff is incredibly nice. Our waiter Mark was great, super friendly. We had the guac and chips and ceviche Frida as an appetizer. Both very good. For entrees, I believe my mom had the Frida salad (technically an appetizer), and my dad got the Mar y Tierra tacos (filet Mignon and shrimp). They shared tuna tostaditas. I got the salmon limeño. To drink, we had a Paloma, red sangria, and the Magdalena. All were good, especially the Magdalena! The salmon I got was just okay (not as flavorful as the other items but definitely not bad) and the mashed potatoes and asparagus it came with were yummy. The Lychee Pea Martini was everything - beautiful, intriguing, delicious, and surprisingly strong. The Jaleita appetizer was also good with a good mix of calamari, shrimp, fish, and yuca fries; I appreciated that the calamari wasn't 90% batter like most places'. We shared some chips and guacamole and some salsa to start. For entree I got the duck tacos and they were so good! Juicy with the refreshing pineapple crunch too. The pasta with steak was amazing!! Amazing upscale Peruvian and Mexican fusion spot in the neighborhood. Found my new favorite spot for delicious cocktails. What made the cornice even better was the amazing mixologist. Jeanette really knows how to make some beautiful and delicious cocktails. She was also very friendly which was an addition to the experience. Stopped by on a Wednesday evening around 6:30 pm without a reservation, and was seated right away. Found out that they have a great happy hour deal that runs from 12-7 Mon-Fri and 4-7 Sat-Sun. (Happy hour is only available at the bar) I ordered the Agua melon with the popsicle ($3 extra),and the jaleita, which is a a bowl of fried calamari, clams, and yuca fries. It came with two delicious sauces. Enjoyed every bite of it. Ambience was really nice. Great decor and wall murals. Definitely a great place for a date, girls night or even a nice dinner. Any occasion really. The place was also nice and clean and were requested proof of vaccination to sit indoors which I appreciated.
