We were seated upstairs where it was very cold and had no ambience. Service was just ok. Appetizer came fast but our main course took forever to arrive. Empanadas were ok. Rib eye was over cooked and nothing special and it was expensive! Prices are high especially when you consider the below average food, service and atmosphere. We were able to walk in for an early dinner on the weekend. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. The inside was cute and small on the first floor. We did restaurant week, and it was a lot of food. We got the lamb croquettes, tortilla de papas, steak and fries, flan, and they also gave us bread. The bread was warm and came with a really tasty sauce. The croquettes came with a good amount of lamb. The steak and fries were well prepared. I decided to give Palermo's a shot since it had been open for a while and I hadn't had the chance to go. The first floor sitting space is very small, I realized quickly that there are only two seating options on the main floor, either inside or out on the street. I was also given the option of sitting upstairs. I walked up a long flight of steps [no elevator] and on the first landing I was ushered into a room which looked like an abandoned storeroom but was outfitted with tables. I was seated at one table and water was provided. I looked over the menu and after a quick explanation from the waiter as to what the offerings were, I opted for the Palermo burger.medium well. The room I was sitting had no ambience whatsoever, no pictures on the walls, no music playing, only a series of tables and a small bar in one corner. Since I was not ordering a great deal of food and not from the grill menu, I was largely ignored for most of my visit. My food did arrive and the burger was of a substantial size, cooked well with small vats of ketchup and a spicy mayo since this came with a cup of shoestring fries. One caveat, the burger is messy to eat and you almost need a third hand or cut it into quarters not to make a mess. After my food arrived, I was on my own. No one came to check to see if my food was OK, to fill my water glass, etc. They brought me a basket of hard rolls which, of the two I tasted, were not even worth the trouble. This basket came as I was finishing my meal. This came with a small vat of red pepper dip. The most egregious thing was the service which was truly lacking, either due to not enough help or coddling people who were ordering more to eat and/or drink The waiter covering the room that day was very attentive to a large group of tourists. I have no complaints about what I ordered but the lack of ambience and poor service would make one pause before another visit. When the time came to pay the bill, the waiter came by with a hand held machine to show me what I owed and I told him I needed a receipt. He stood there waiting for me to get my money out-at this point, suddenly I had his attention. The steps leading back down to the main floor are steep and even when you get to the bottom, there is another small step with no railing which If you are not careful, you could break your hip. Palermo was absolutely incredible. I was intrigued the moment I looked at the menu, and it exceeded every expectation. We ordered the octopus, tuna tartare, skirt steak, and chicken, along with a margarita and the Palermo Mezcal cocktail. Every single item was exceptional. I happened upon this place on my way to see "Death Becomes Her" at the Lunt-Fontanne theater. I'm so glad I did. I usually go to my favorite places in NY, but this time I thought I'd try some new places. And this did NOT disappoint. The dining room is small, and there is also outside seating (when the weather is nice, of course). The server was very nice and gave good recommendations. I had the NY strip Milanese which was VERY good. It's a steak that's pounded, and breaded. Served with a side salad, and a side of mashed potatoes. The Milanesa was just okay - tough and chewy, not what As expected though the beef empanadas were really good. Service was slow enough that I skipped ordering a 2nd glass of wine, and they seemed to struggle turning tables at payment time, bringing the tablet back and forth and running cards multiple times while other guests were clearly getting annoyed by the same thing. When I asked why this was happening, the waiter couldn't explain in English. It's a very cozy restaurant and the staff is friendly. The beef empanadas were good and the lamb croquettes were excellent. The lamb croquettes were very rich. Roasted beets were ok. My friend and I shared the short ribs and we didn't expect the way they were cooked. I'm sure for those who love a very fatty piece of meat would enjoy it. This was not something we liked too much. The one thing that I noticed was when we were getting the check, they auto selected 20% tip instead of allowing the patron to decide what they want to give. I just love how cozy and authentic this place is. The staff took such good care of us and we even got to listen to a mariachi type performance even though we sat outside. It's rare that restaurants give outdoor diners the same experience as indoors. I really appreciated this. It goes without saying that all the food here is fantastic. We shared the beef empanadas, the octopus, the tuna tartar and the ribeye with mashed potatoes. I also had the dolce de leche flan. Just a great meal all around with the cutest Argentinian family making the experience next level. Wheelchair access details: they saved a perfect table accessibility wise for me outdoors. There is a step-free entrance to go inside on the main level and some of the tables do look accessible but I've never been inside. The place is quite small. There is a second floor dining room that would not be accessible I believe. I am not sure about the restroom. read more

Stopped here after a show, with a fairly large group of 8. And as we approached we were confused at how small the place was, only to learn that there are upstairs seating, with a full bar. My in laws are of argentinian decent, so when I say that this place delivered, you can be assured that it passed the seal of approval by 3 argentians (my wife being the third, obv). We had the beef empanadas (after getting a lecture from my inlaws that corn the foods food HAHA), and argentinian chorizo's (on the menu the sell these as mixed with blood suaseges that we didn't want, but they accomodated and just brought chorizo) - these were great, and and an excelant start to the meal. At the table, we have def a high concerntration of milaneza (breaded beef), both napolitana style, and regular, as well as some steaks, I had a wonderful NY strip, and can attest that the skirt stead was also wonderful! We ordered a few salads, which was the only confusing part of the meal, and think that the staff (which was super friendly and knowledgable) should have hinted that we over did it - apparently some of the entree's come with a side salad, while others do not, we thought none of them do, so we ordered additional salads, that ended up just being a waste. Also the salads were nothing to write home about. I will say that our server picked on this, asked what happened, and comped us one of the salads, which was very nice of him to do. All in all, this was a great meal, far from cheap, but overall we all left satisfied and full - and have since recommended the place to visiting friends as an excelant place to eat before/after a show. We did go to see Buena Vista Club, and some of the cast came after to this place, so had the opertunity to raise a glass with them as well! read more

Disaster! I went to the SoHo location a week before and while food was much better than in the Hells Kitchen location, they didn't have air conditioner and both locations are very small for the quantity of tables they have. It's feel claustrophobic in both places. For the soccer games both places had the same issue with the sound not matching the image and/or the sound cutting on and off constantly. Service at SoHo was better but in Hells Kitchen a disaster. They were not organized and prepared to have all tables full capacity. From basic things to important ones. Additionally, they are in the NY week restaurant promotion but they didn't want to offer it during the soccer game to take advantage of us even when I mentioned that was only for my son. We spent a lot of money in both locations). Unfortunately the only good Argentinian restaurant in NYC is located at Long Island City called R40, beautiful place, amazing service and del looks good for razonable price. I know Graciela just opened and I didn't go yet neither to Fahena Hotel to dine there but they both are more upscale. I wouldn't recommend Palermo Bistro neither Baires. I tried them both and while Baires has great food, is also crowed and they over charged me. Anyway, I hope this help others! read more

As you can see by the six pics I've posted, I've come here a few times! Why? Because this is a great spot consistently offering a lovely experience each and every time. Whether pre- or post-theater dining, catching up with a friend, birthday dinner or other occasion, Palermo has always been the perfect pick. The converted town house feel makes for a wonderful escape from midtown while still being in the heart of it all. Service is always welcoming and accommodating (thanks, Juan, and the owner for continuing that tradition with tonight's dinner!). The food and drinks always make me and my dining companions happy. And they have some gems I haven't found elsewhere. On a block saturated with dining options ranging from sub par to excellent, Palermo is firmly placed on the excellent side of that spectrum. Take it from me. If you're turning onto 46th St from 8th Ave and checking out menu boards, keep walking toward 9th Ave and pop into this gem near the end of the block. You're welcome. read more

we made a reservation for 6pm to watch the Argentina v Cabo Verde game. was called the day before to confirm the reservation. we got there ten minutes early and were told they had overbooked due to a "system error" and that we could not be sat. we were given the option to go to their sister restaurant with a 10% discount, which we accepted as we did not know where else to go to watch the game in time. very disappointing given my mom was traveling from out of town and we had been hoping to go to this restaurant for this match. first time experiencing that with a restaurant. i understand it was a special occasion but it is very unprofessional to confirm a reservation just to rescind it upon arrival. read more

#solosobersista I think this place used to be a Broadway haunt (can't remember the name but I think it was called Glass House (not Tavern)). To start, I've ALWAYS loved this place. It just feels like your sitting in somebodies pre-war NYC apartment (because essentially YOU ARE). I decided to get the skirt steak with humita (traditional corn side dish). The starter bread was charred, which initially threw me off because I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be, but when I tore it away, it was the perfect texture and because I happen to enjoy smoky flavor, I tried and decided I liked it pretty good charred. The bread with cheese (can't remember the name, but I have typically had it at Brazilian restaurants, was also charred and delicious (devoured). Humita, at last I've found you, a bowl of corn better than grits. Fresh mashed corn and squash with cheese melted in. It took me about 6 bites to even look at the skirt steak, which was in fact delicious! Damn. No way I could finish the creamy humita but that steak didn't stand a chance. The two sauces were perfect. My server was very kind, and for the most part prompt and attentive. One suggestion if I may: for the price point, this is definitely in the fine dining category, and as such, there are certain things, like refilling empty glasses and bringing a steak knife, that waiters typically do. All in all, I really enjoyed this experience, even when a group of very young, very boisterous young men, came to drink at the bar and entirely shifted the air with their scent and gym maxing. read more

Stopped in for dinner after a show, hoping for a cozy little spot for a date night. What I got instead was a tiny restaurant with big chain energy and some of the weirdest vibes I've encountered. Let's start with the chairs. They are so overly cushioned and flimsy I thought I might fall off. The tables had paper covers over tablecloths, which felt like a metaphor for the whole place: trying to be upscale but giving up halfway. The staff wore branded shirts and headsets giving off Texas Roadhouse energy in a space that could barely fit a food truck. Drinks? Solid. No complaints there. But the steak was aggressively oversalted. And the corn empanada? Somehow the hottest thing I've ever been served and still cold in spots. A true paradox. And this is just a personal pet peeve, I kept catching occasional whiffs of Fabuloso. Not overpowering, but enough to get my attention. In retrospect, I should have taken the hint from the 47 signs outside indicating a tourist trap and kept walking. read more

This place is a hidden gem! My husband and I visited before a Broadway show, and everything was amazing. The freshly baked bread with a flavorful red sauce was a great start, and our cocktails--margarita and mezcalrita--were so fresh and delicious. For appetizers, the tuna tartare was super fresh and my husband's favorite. The corn empanadas had the lightest, freshest dough I've ever had. We shared the skirt steak with asparagus and fries--tender meat, perfectly paired with chimichurri. The roasted red pepper was a great touch. It was a great size for two, and the Malbec wine was the perfect match. Dessert: a latte and alfajores to finish the meal--just perfect! We went to try this Argentinian restaurant recently and unfortunately we were a bit disappointed with the quality of the food. We had beef empanada, chorizo & morcilla, skirt steak with side of salad and fries. The food (three of them) was very oily/greasy, on top of being very greasy, the skirt steak portion was small, very salty and it wasn't cooked the way I requested ( request was medium rare and arrived medium). SO! they add 20% gratuity ( just for one person) then have prompts on the machine for an extra 3,5 or 7 precent and don't tell you till the check is brought. They asked for reviews before they send the check. AND! even tho they messed up my entree the offered thing but neglected to take a percentage off of the item they messed up. I had a great experience here the food was good and the service was great. We had a reservation at 5 and we got there at 4:45 and were seated right away on the second floor. The service was great, the food took a little longer than expected to arrive but that was ok we weren't in a rush today and we had some great mezcal margaritas to pass the time. Only gripe was the music was too low I could hear the conversations from all the other guests. Small thing which was really nbd. Garlic shrimp was fantastic but they forgot any salt, adding a touch of salt took this from bland to great. I would 100% recommend this. I got the steak milanese which was so big half way through I wondered if I'd finish but of course I did, I'm paying for it. My daughter and I had a complete meals - appetizers, entrees, and drinks, and while she was paying the bill (expensive) for my Mother's Day, she ordered another round for each of us. They brought out and charged for two additional drinks each. Wtf. We immediately notified them that we only ordered one round but they refused to take it off the bill. We left the untouched round on the table. Totally unacceptable, but especially after spending a lot of money there! Writing this review breaks my heart. The food here was phenomenal, but the customer service and regard for the patrons was completely lacking. Because of an unknown mix-up, one of our party's entrees arrived 30 minutes later than the rest (and was cooked completely wrong). It ruined the whole experience for our party. And, they seemed unconcerned with their errors and never tried to make it right. This place needs to take a knee for a few weeks to rethink their model. Food was good. The family member who waited on us didn't speak much English. I couldn't get her to understand Pittsburg or Charred rare. We had the boratta appetizer with a pistachio pesto. Awesome. The grilled bread they served right away was very soft and grilled perfectly. 2 NY Strips. Mine cooked perfectly. My wife's was not a great cut although flavorful. Side of mashed potatoes as warm. Beats were excellent. Overall food was very good. Serve was okay. At this location the tables are very close to the open kitchen. The two cooks were not wearing gloves and prepping food with their bare hands. I think that is a law in NYS. read more

The best part of Palermo is the hospitality and the unique dishes. The cocktail menu is standard classics, including a French 75, which I always like to see on a menu. You'll be warmly welcomed at the front. I suggest you immediately order the sangria. It's delicious blend that is complex and avoids a sugar rush. Follow that with the corn empanadas. They are a delicacy of north Argentina and hard to find at most Argentinian steak restaurants I've gone to. We ordered the NY Strip and it was plenty to share.
