But apparently i missed writing a review. Maybe because there are many glowing reviews already. But may I put my 5 star review on the pile. This time we caught the 2pm Sunday open jam. We were smartly near the front of the line so we got my favorite spot, right on the bar rail near the stage. The drinks were good and strong, the service was quick and succinct. The jam was incredible. I didn't know all the guys but the guy on drums is a legend named muppet. He held back on his solos on the first 2 songs. On the third, when the baton was passed to him, he ripped off an impressive solo that would be amazing for anyone, and he is 93. We had to dip out to catch our flight, but cant wait to stop in again next time.

Just standing in line we got to talk to a musician, who had just played at another location, but told us the people playing there that day were amazing, including the 91-year-old drummer "Muppet". We went during the day so no cover charge, but think they do at later hours. We got some spots at the bar, knowing we would not be able to stay long. From any seat you are able to enjoy the whole atmosphere and set. They had one server and one bartender, and I honestly thought at first they would be scrambling with all the drink orders but the way they worked, quickly and still being personable with each guest was impressive. The band playing was great, we stayed a bit more than we should have because of how good they were. Very intimate, chill way to spend time enjoying live music. The only reason I took one star off is the restroom situation. I went down hoping I could use the facilities but the mold smell and other strong smell made me sick and I had to run out. Just make sure you go before you are inside or hold it. Apart from that, very intimate, chill way to spend time enjoying live music.

There was…read morean hour of instructor led dance lessons from 8-9pm to learn two versions of basic line dances. Even so, it was pretty difficult for us (we are not natural born dancers). We were also taught the Barn Dance which was a bit easier to learn and a lot of fun as you take turns dancing with 15+ other people during the song. The event takes place in a dance studio and had a special performance by two of the local dance groups associated with Big Apple Ranch. Cost for entry was $20 per person and beer/white claws were available for purchase at a makeshift bar. Overall, I would say this was definitely a worthwhile unique and memorable experience. I plan to come next month with a larger group of my friends. I also loved how so many people were wearing their best western attire including jeans with cowboy boots and hats. I encourage anyone interested in participating to loosen your inhibitions and give it a try even if you aren't entirely comfortable dancing in front of other people. I wasn't very good at first, but it wasn't any less fun.

Re: #1: The Tank is unique in that it is the perhaps only place in Manhattan where you can put on a show totally for free. They only take a cut of the door and don't charge a usage fee. They have a fancy light board and a reasonable sound system to use and two distinct performance spaces to use...a 70 seat black box upstairs and a lounge set up downstairs. Re: #2: If you are new to town the Tank is a very accessible community for newbies. They are always looking for volunteers, they throw bunches of parties and are generally nice folks of mostly liberal orientations. A ton of people are involved with this place. Re: #3: Speaking of liberals...the Tank loves them. Despite being more of an independent myself, I am open minded and don't feel excluded. While not pushy about politics they do have a very active line up of liberal activities and events related to the Drinking Liberally community. There is Eating Liberally: events that talk about food and politics (and usually provide samples); there is Laughing Liberally: comedy nights; and Crafting Liberally: a Sunday get together to make stuff with fellow Liberals; and of course Screening Liberally: which shows films of interest to Liberals. Re: #4: The Tank, like lots of small non-profit spaces in NY, is basically a lab environment where young artists are trying things out. If you don't come for one of the above reasons your first visit is most likely to support a friend in a show. Do not let a lack of performer friends stop you from coming over. There a number of strong music/art festivals in particular (the Bent Fest and the Blip Fest are two) that are worth checking out for quality entertainment. So come on down to the Tank. Buy a beer, make some friends. It is located on Church St in Tribeca so it is convenient to the SoHo galleries, and Chinatown Chinese food. 5 stars cause I am biased. Boom!

There are 62 seats that are in fine condition and there isn't a bad seat in the house. Bring cash if you are planning on getting your ticket at the door. And ARRIVE ON TIME....there is usually no late seating because the door is right by the stage in front of the audience. Drinks at the bar are cheap and they have freshly popped popcorn. What's better than that? Check their website often to see what is playing, as it changes all the time. Chances are you'll never see the same kind of show twice here...which is great. Long live off-off-Broadway! The Tank is one of NYC theatre's greatest assets.

The line at the door was long, but it moved efficiently. Despite the hot and humid weather outside, I expected the same miserable conditions inside due to the large crowd. To my surprise, our event was held on the rooftop, and the central air was blasting throughout the facility. That alone earns this place a solid four stars. Now, the bar was a different story. It was crowded and disorganized, and the female bartender seemed to charge whatever she felt like. I ordered three rum punches and a Corona with grenadine, but I changed my mind and canceled the third rum punch before it was made. Nonetheless, I still got charged for it. As a result, I'll need to dispute the amount on my credit card because I didn't have the time or patience to deal with her attitude when I canceled my drink. When you're at the bar, be sure to keep an eye on your order and ask for drink prices upfront. I'm not someone who penny-pinches, but I won't let anyone take advantage of my hard-earned money. Overall, the venue was amazing, and I definitely plan to return--just without a stop at the bar.

For my 600th review, I will be writing about my visit to The Rub on my birthday weekend…read more(4/30/2016). The Rub is a monthly hip-hop dance party, that plays old school hip-hop, the kind of music I listened to in high school. It takes place on the last Saturday of every month at the Bell House. It sounded like a great time, so I headed over to the Bell House around 10pm. There was no line around 10pm, so I got in quickly after paying the cheap $10 cover. There's a (non-mandatory) coat check at the door, and the space is split into a smaller bar/lounging area and a large (dark) dance floor with a stage and another bar. I'm glad I heeded the warning to come before 11pm, because the space filled up quick. Drinks were fairly priced. Beer ranged from $5-$8 and mixed drinks were $8. I had a good amount to drink. It's great that there's no dress code, because you wanna be comfortable when you hit the dark dance floor. They played all the types of music I had expected, including old Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, and a lot of Prince (R.I.P.) I did notice that the smaller bar area had different music than the dance floor. The music at the bar was older, late 90s early 2000s hip-hop, and the main dance floor had later 2000s. I'm not sure if that's a usual thing with this event, but it wasn't bad. I had a great time

I LOVE this event…read more This past Halloweekend Saturday, Nick C. thought of the genius idea to come to the Rub, an event held every last Saturday at the Bell House. It was about a 45 minute wait in line but well worth it. They charged a $15 cover that day, I hate covers but that's pretty damn cheap considering how huge the venue is and great the event was. The Bell House is a warehouse divided into a small bar area and a huge stage area. The crowd is great and the place has a very Generation Y feel to it. The music that night and the last/first time I was here, featured classics of the 90s/early 2000s (basically my childhood). I would assume that's the theme and motif of the Rub, to replicate a night out in the city during that epoch. So for that, I bestow it a very emphatic 5 stars.
