The worst customer service ever!!!!!!! We called ahead of time to make sure everything we need was in stock. After I payed thousands of dollars for the items, I had to search for someone to help me locate the items. This wasted 2 hours of my time. When I complained to the manager Emily, she told me half of my items were acually not in stock and that there was nothing she could do about it, she told me this with an attitude. With no apology when I was respectful the whole time. Instead of offering to call the santa rosa store I had to ask her multiple times to do it. Emily is rude and disrespectful to her customers and i will never shop at Friedmans again. read more

This is my favorite Friedman's. 1) it's new 2) it's clean 3) it's close to me - but the real reason I love this store the most is: 4) Their staff here knows their stuff. Their paint people have saved me on or than one occasion, as have their hardware and lighting people. 5) Their home items, a much much bigger array of items, which at the end of the season means a much better clearanc section. I know their motto is "if we don't have it, you don't need it" and they are pretty darn close to having just about everything for your home improvement needs. read more

The first time I went to Friedman's I was looking for a window for my bedroom. Every employee I talked with was very helpful and I was able to find and purchase the perfect window. In a matter of minutes I picked up the window at the warehouse where an employee loaded the window in my car and I was on my way home. It was quick and simple! read more

The Garden Center and the manager are incredible!! Backstory: My son and I visited Friedman's yesterday to purchase black Duck Tape (only). No problem finding that. Then we went to the work clothing section. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection - even in larger sizes (XXL). I didn't know there was such a selection - and the prices are reasonable as well. We then went to the Garden section. This is where the amazing experience took place. It's late October and the Nursery contains so many healthy, diverse plants it was hard to take it all in! My son wants to give a try to growing bonsai. Tom, the manager of the department, saw us looking at the bonsai starter plants and asked if we had any questions. I'm telling you in all truth, that man should be a botanist. I am a horticulturist and know my stuff regarding the plants I work with, but his knowledge put me to absolute shame. He went into detail about the starter offerings and gave us tips that we would have never known. He freely shared his knowledge gained over decades of experience. And his knowledge didn't stop there. We looked at cacti and succulents (and he was able to explain how to tell the difference - the clues might surprise you!). He also spoke of which of the plants are endangered or threatened in the wild. I appreciated his advice which ensured we are responsible gardeners. I came away from the store feeling much more knowledgeable about my purchases, which included supplies (finally found a place that sells plain old plastic pots at a reasonable price!). I also learned, to my dismay, that many of the 'rare' plants I purchased at a premium online are available here at a fraction of the price. Live and learn! I had no idea this store carried such an incredible selection. I can't imagine shopping anywhere else! Thank you, Tom ... Friedman's is beyond fortunate to have you on staff. I noticed quite a few reviews talking about substandard customer service at checkout. We were in line yesterday and we were invited to check out at the Returns and Exchanges counter. Since I had more in my cart than the original item I came for (!) the salesperson brought her scanner to my cart and assisted me with checkout. The experience was more than pleasant. read more

Friedman's has been my go to hardware store for years. There are advisors for each department (gardening, plumbing, electrical, etc) that are sooo helpful. The advisors (in plumbing and electric specifically) have helped me diagnose many simple issues and find replacement parts, which saves me money because I don't have to call somebody to help me. I don't think I'll ever go to another hardware store (unless Friedman's doesn't have something.) read more

I work for a company that is tax exempt. I made a purchase and was assured the purchase was tax exempt by a gentleman who was the manager at the time. I was headed home after work so I was in a hurry. At work the following morning, I realized that what he had done was discount the merchandise like the tax free coupon you get at Safeway, instead of making it a true tax free purchase. I was still charged tax on the receipt. I came in that afternoon, on my own time again. I was hoping to get this taken care of ASAP. Thank goodness Freidman's hired MARISSA (in returns) and assistant manager JENNIFER GLAZE. I watched Marissa smoothly handle three rude men before me. She obviously paid great attention during her training because she quoted policy like a textbook! Try ask she might, she could not get any clarification from her superiors about my problem. That was when she called in the big guns, Jennifer Glaze. After a brief explanation of my predicament, she refunded the original invoice and processed my tax exempt purchase like she does them all the time! SWEET! Class act those two ladies! In this time of the Corona Virus I need to restrict my interactions because I am in the age group that is more at risk. I called Friedman's to see about paying for and picking up parts to repair my toilet. I was put in contact with Will in plumbing. He was very helpful, and creative in helping me find the right parts and arranged for me to pick them up in a safe place without leaving my car. When I was talking to Will on the speaker phone to determine the right parts and how to pick them up my wife heard the conversation with him and we were both grateful and impressed with his thoroughness and manner in helping us. read more

This is hands down the nicest home improvement store I have ever set my foot in. The warehouse is very warmly and tastefully decorated with great lighting. Every sales associate we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative was that we drove from Novato to take advantage of a 15% rebate coupon we had received in the mail, but I failed to notice that it had expired two days prior. Thought about calling in a manager to see if they could still honor it but I didn't bother. read more

This company is an analog clock in a digital age. Let's review piece by piece: -Email: no or minimal answer,,, -Phone: dispatch doesn't care if anyone picks up or not, -Specific department: not a clue what is on hand or not (literally had to call me back after seeing if they have the part nor not). The only good (providing 1 star) is they are in locations that Homedepot is not available (i.e. Sonoma, Petaluma, etc.). Personal opinion, this is a glorified ACE Hardware with not many essential items in the warehouse. Do yourself a favor and hit up HomeDepot for better "Hardware". read more

After here for over a year the people here still impress me. Usually in new businesses you see the stagnation and quality of service erode after time. Just the opposite here. The service has improved. The knowledge of the staff is better. I visit this place often and almost always leave with great satisfaction. Cudos to this company for having great people compared to the Home Depot or Lowes. Revisited them again as I do regularly. This time I must call out the employee at the information desk. Jenny. Just a short 5 star review here...this store is just lightyears ahead of the competition. Compared to Brand X, (initials are HD...) well there is no comparison. In fact when compared to that said Brand X, Friedmans' deserves 10 stars! The one thing that distinguishes this store is customer service. I do receive the news letter but now I am stuck with no comparison for tiling project . Well I guess I'll just order on homedepot. older review: So far I have found all the sales people in different depts I've shopped at helpful and knowledgable. This new store is large, well organized and clean. Kitchen and bath dept is very impressive. Will update as I actually use their services for home improvement projects. I have read the review about the kitchen remodel work up and yes I was told the same. 150 bucks to measure and assist in designing. I am glad to read the reviewer info of a high mark up. I guess I will have to now get extra estimates. I was hoping to use Friedman"s. Yes Palo Alto is a much higher income area and we should not have such a huge mark up. read more

every time I go to the store the prices items are stuck in the wrong UPS number when you go pay you pay for an item and then when you go in to leave so they can check your items they tell you paid for the wrong item and then they charge you according to the item you take pictures of the item you purchased and the UPS number showing them that the items are stuck under it under that UPS number you pull the tag and take it to the front and they still say that that's not the correct item it doesn't fail fifth time this has happened and they still continue to stack the items under the wrong UPS number and this time I took pictures and asked for manager to come see an no manager . management there sucks ass can't even come and help out.we waited like 20 minutes no manager ever came. All I wanted was for someone to come out to help us so they can see items stuck under that UPS number was not correct so they can fix it for the next customer ,then they look at you like you're the one that wants to steal I don't give a fuck about the item I paid the correct amount but fix the issue so they don't look at your like you like u are steal from them. I have money to pay I don't need to steal. Seriously but they need to get better management there or retrain their people to stock items in their correct ups number.Can't wait to talk to wait a Measure as I have pictures of my items and pictures where they stock the items and filed a complaint and hopefully they can get weight and measures to go out there and auditorium and they find them $10,000,honestly hope they do get fined $10,000 and they pay the $10,000 it's sad but this is the only place close to where I live to go shop and I have to shop in there to get what I need horrible horrible place in management to horrible horrible management read more

After years of putting up with Home Depot and Lowe's, I was lucky enough to have my wife drag me to Friedman's for the first time. I was incredibly impressed with how easy it was to find employees to help with questions and finding what I needed. Each employee I have ever encountered during each of my 9 or so visits has been friendly and helpful. Home Depot and Lowe's are staffed with people that make it clear that the customer is inconveniencing them. Maybe they're ticked off that I managed to find one of them after searching for 10 minutes. Friedman's has a great selection of materials and have yet to find out they don't have what I'm looking for. I do go to a different business for hardwoods (walnut, white oak, mahogany, etc), but I can't fault them for that since it's more a specialty area. It's a relatively small company (yet has service and selection that exceeds companies with enormous supply networks and resources) with only a few locations, but I feel fortunate to have one nearby. read more

It takes between 15 to 45 minutes to get help. Pressing the Help button in the department you need help with does nothing. Same with standing at the Help desk in the middle of the store. Or walking around the building which is hard to do because I'm disabled. I always end up having to go to the Returns desk and let them know I've been waiting X length of time and now I stay there until a in the flesh staffer actually arrives. Ace and Orchard definitely have infinitely better customer assistance. read more

I'm a regular customer at Friedmans, come here at least 2-3 times a week some times more. Things are a bit different than usual due to Covid-19. Understandable! What I don't understand it's why when there is lines of 20 people in line, management don't come out to help this poor cashiers they like been in their phones. read more

Omg today I had a very disappointing interaction with one of the sales lady's in the kitchen and bath department. I was upstairs shopping with my two toddlers for bathtubs. I kindly asked if she could price out one in the corner. She rudely let me know that there was a price list on the wall for me to reference and went back to her laptop work. Are you serious! Struggling through the list of about 20 skus she came over and pointed out the price. She was clearly annoyed by my presence and had not interest in selling anything! I'm building a house and needed all my bathroom stuff (tubs toilets etc). This is a perfect example of why people would rather just buy online. I left and will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Friedman's had everything I needed to help my mom with a lot of small projects around the house. I got her shower items, tools, lights she absolutely loves and they even carry cute plastic owls with red eyes to NATURALLY scare away the very exuberant little woodpeckers going to town on my mom's house! I'm surprised to see such mixed reviews as I've had nothing but great experiences here - very helpful staff who will go the extra mile to find something and suggest creative alternatives if they don't have it. But the reason I wanted to review it is because I have been super super happy with the nursery staff and the selection of plants. The buyer has a penchant for interesting Australian natives, and nearly every week I find something I have not seen anywhere else over there: the pull flower last week, a great banksia the week before, a good variety that keeps changing and is perfect for this Aussie transplant who wants a touch of home in her garden. Love all the friendly advice about what soil amendments to use for the various things I am planting, and have just had a great experience every time. I'm a fan. read more

This is a great place to go and get help with any project you might be working on. Everyone here is friendly and ready to jump at the chance to see if you need any help. That's why I keep coming back. We did have some snafus with ordering some tile and were not notified when they were supposed to arrive, or gave us a date that was a week later than it should have been, so I'm hesistant to order anything more through them, hence the 4 stars. In the past three months I remodeled my bathroom. The tile people and the paint people and the lumber people have all been very helpful to a do-it-yourselfer. I was able to get everything i needed plus some great ideas and cost savings advice. If I had to drive up to Lowes or Home-depot I know I would be disappointed with service ( as usual). I wanted to give a shout out to KP in the Bath Design section. My wife and I needed additional storage space in our bathroom, and wanted to replace the pedestal sink that was here when we bought the house. KP set us up with a fabulous vanity and medicine cabinet from Jensen, and she helped us select a complementary faucet set, along with a lighting fixture and sconces that we just love. The good folks at Friedman's Home Improvement in Petaluma have made my life sooo much easier. In 2006, we remodeled our main bathroom. At the time, minimalism was the design du jour, so we opted for a pedestal sink. Fairly quickly thereafter, the reality of sharing a single bathroom with a family of 4 became apparent and the 30" sink became a surface upon which to pile all manner of crap. It was clear that it needed to be replaced with a vanity so we could stash all that unsightly crap. And that's where I got stuck. I --for the life of me-- could not make a decision on the style, color, layout of the type of vanity to choose. I became utterly paralyzed at the thought of having to pick something that I knew would be with us probably for the rest of the time we lived in the house. Fear of committment hit hard. And so I languished and cursed at the pedestal sink that I once loved and now wanted to divorce. Just to spite me, the damned thing started developing hairline cracks that looked like spiderwebs ("sink wrinkles" shall we call them?). And then 12 years went by. Until one day in early 2018, I woke up determined to make a change in my life. I was going to kick that damned sink (boat anchor) to the curb. And this is the part of my story where Friedman's comes in and rescued me. On an ordinary day, I went to FHI to check out the selection that I had already seen so many times before and was unimpressed. Expecting to once again leave dejected, I was pleasantly surprised when KP (Ellen Degeneres' twin separated at birth) approached me to ask if I had any questions. The conversation went something like this: Me: "Haaaaaalp! I need haaaalp!" KP: "Ok, what are you looking for?" Me: "A bathroom vanity." (At this point, she probably noted the look of distress on my face, but probably didn't know that it was my laundry list of "must have" features, many of which conflicted and cancelled each other out). KP: "Ok let's start with color. Do you know what you're looking for?" And thus proceeded a verrrry long conversation (I was there over an hour) in which she was able to extract the key features I was looking for. She helped me balance quality, cost, and style to design a vanity and mirror set that I could actually be excited about. This woman devoted over an hour of her time talking to me patiently and offering LIMITED choices (because that's what I needed), all without any abruptness or pushiness to sell me on something. She truly offered service with a smile, and I credit her for us finally moving forward on this project. FHI offers the impression of a small-town hardware store, but has the vast quality and inventory of larger, big box stores. That I can throw my money at a place that supports the local Sonoma County economy? Even better. read more

I went in with my finace ready to buy a grill for him and when asking for help sue looked annoyed by our questions. We asked her for a specific product and she told me to go to osh or lowes for that product because that product didn't sell. I gave her plenty of times to earn our business and she just did not want our business by her attitude. I do not for see myself coming again. It's a shame because I love buying local. read more

This Friedman's is pretty much like the others in Santa Rosa and Sonoma, but newer and less crowded. They seem to carry just about everything you could imagine for home repair. The staff are great. I had a complicated transaction to sort out with Customer Service, but the young lady Jessica Ramirez absolutely nailed it, taking care of all the details in stride and with a smile on her face.
