I live in North Carolina, but I have an uncle in Far Rockaway and I also cover New York for my job. I was there for both and was able to have a meeting here. I've also taken my husband and uncle here for dinner. We absolutely love this restaurant. The service is superb. The food is excellent, authentic Italian cuisine. The wine selection and cocktails are amazing also. You really only need one cocktail. Lol. But I absolutely love this place. A lot of locals seem to go there and there was a line almost out the door waiting for Pizza. Had to stop in on a Saturday evening headed back to Westchester form a day with family in Atlantic/Long Beach. Walked in with the family and we were greeted by a friendly fella (seemed to be the owner) who found us table in the full busy dining room. Service was friendly and helpful and quick considering how busy the place was! We stuck to pizzettes (regular and cauliflower crusts) and salads and we didn't leave anything on our plates. Went here with a friend for the first time to have lunch. I had the orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe. Fantastic. I ve had this dish at other restaurants many times but this was the best. Simply delicious. I will certainly be back soon. Two small negatives. The price for lunch was a bit on the high side at $22 for this dish. Secondly, it would be nice if they served Italian bread rather than than the little squares of baked dough which are really not that appealing. read more

Review Date: October 31, 2013 So I didn't visit the restaurant, I ordered take out from them on Halloween. Either everyone orders a pizza on Halloween or this place just likes to take forever with their delivery. I placed my order at 7 PM while I was working the night shift and was told the order would arrive in 35 - 40 minutes. I ordered a pie so I could have a couple of slices on my break and I could share some with my co-workers if they wanted any. The only reason I ordered from them was because the pizza place was too busy and wouldn't take my order. I was fine waiting 35 to 40 minutes but I ended up getting my pizza an hour and ten minutes later. I know this pizza didn't come from Little Italy but from merely a few blocks away so I don't know what took them so long to make a simple cheese pie delivery. What the hell friendlier?!?! So the pizza itself is worth three stars. It's your average slice, not too terrible but nothing absolutely memorable either. But because delivery took so long I'm sorry I have to give it two stars. The price wasn't all that bad for a pie, I don't know why I tipped the delivery guy $2, I should have given him nothing but I feel bad about doing that. So I won't ever order from here again, or even step foot in the place because of the unreasonably long delivery time. I could get 35 to 40 minutes but when it turns into an hour and ten minutes that's just ludicrous! read more

This is a very nice neighborhood Italian restaurant and pizzeria. All the food tastes home-cooked, is very reasonably priced, and the service is very pleasant. My 89-year-old grandmother lives nearby and has been coming here for years. The owner and other workers all know her by name and treat her like family. The front room is the pizzeria, and there's a nicer dining room in the back. It's good for groups of 6-10, as they have several round tables, helping to make sure that everyone can communicate with ease. Nothing beats a big round table. From fried calamari to Caesar salad to veal parm and pasta, you can't go wrong, no matter what you order. Save room for dessert, too. Grandma loves the tartufo, which is ice cream in a chocolate shell with whipped cream on top. Yum! I don't really have a choice about whether or not I will go back, as Grandma will insist on it, but I don't mind. They really are "friendlier" there, and that's what Italian food is all about! New restaurant added (they expanded). A wonderful place. I have not been there in almost 30 years. Same owners, same fantastic food, but NOW, a wonderful trattoria to sit back and really enjoy a great meal. I had a portabello mushroom salad to begin with. Delicious and fresh. My husband had the minestrone soup, which he said was also excellent. From there, I moved onto my entrée, which was the veal marsala. The veal was slightly chewy, but overall, excellent. Instead of pasta, I had it with broccoli which was sautéed in garlic and oil - like I like it. My husband had the Italian beef stew. He practically licked the plate clean. Flavorful and plenty! They have a full bar. I had two Long Island Iced Teas. My husband had two Samuel Adams beers. For dessert, we split an order of tiramisu. They make their own. It came in a small dish, which was really too small for sharing, but we were stuffed and the right amount for each of us was enough to top off our wonderful meal and quench our sweet tooth. It was excellent by the way. We plan to return again and again. There are very few authentic Italian restaurants left in the Five Towns. This long time establishment it at its finest right now! Friendlier didn't have friendly service. We were a party of 4, and was rushed through our meal. We weren't finished with our appetizers and salad and the main course came out. The waiter wanted to clear off the dishes from the table and we had to hold on to everything so we could finish. Main dish, I had the scallop special in a mushroom sauce. Mushrooms were canned. It was supposed to be served with risotto but it wasn't. It was served with Uncle Bens's flavored rice/ not risotto. The rice was served on the plate in a shape of the cup in which it was measured in. Also very salty. Gordon Ramsay would have thrown it in the garbage. My husband had veal parm which he said was average. The other couple had a seafood pasta dish which he said was ok and his wife had the scallop special. Afterwards we were given the dessert menu but the waiter comes by and throws the check on the table! We were hysterical laughing. We ordered dessert just to piss them off. We should have saved our money - frozen cannoli and Junior cheesecake. Ugh. The menu does say Junior's cheesecake so guess there is some honesty there. read more
