Mmmmm I am not sure what happened as I stepped in to order at this place. I was on foot between my dentist and the LIRR and was going to go to Wendy's when I observed the foot traffic going in and out of the pizzeria. To me it meant local hidden gem so I doubled back to check them out. I feel like every neighborhood had one of these pizza shops- there was nice booth seating and ambient lighting. They had a hostess who was retuning to the stand as my son and I walked in and went straight to the register to view the pizza behind the glass before making our choices. Maybe those folks that came in and out quickly ordered over the phone, maybe they order week and the guy at the counter knows them- maybe it was because I wasn't a local. Anyway hey I will never know why the guy at the register taking my order had no warmth in his reception. Usually pizza is like up beat hectic and ok what you gonna get. It felt more like why are you here- for pizza of course. I shrugged off the feelings and ordered two plain slices and just as I thought- they were perfect slices of NY pizza. From the crispy crust, ideal amount of sauce, the temperature down to the cheese melt. I took some time to observe; it looks like they have a full kitchen and extended menu with Italian dishes. I did not observe the bar situation. They had a parking area, decent ambiance and seemed to be a community staple as in my short time in the area I observed over 5 families pop in and out. Hey maybe I was ugly that day or maybe they are just used to the locals so I am not sure if I would recommend. But the food was good, it's easy to get NY pizza wrong but they got it right. So it's possible I may return with my parents and check out the dinner menu on a Friday night who knows what the future holds. I can't let one persons attitude stand in the way of my love of pizza. 3/5 I might recommend. read more

I've eaten here a few times, and ordered just as many. I keep forgetting how good this place is. Portions are excellent, the sauce is just sweet and acidic enough, great balance. And the prices are reasonable. And oh, the fried calamari is one of the best I've had. read more

Villa Maria is not trying to be anything other than what it is - a good neighborhood pizzeria/restaurant. The dining room is cheerful yet quiet; and comprised of snug-fitting booths. We felt like we needed to push the seat away from the table to be comfortable - but could not; it's fixed in place, but this did not detract from our experience. Nonetheless, we ordered a slices of old fashioned grandma pizza for an appetizer - which was absolutely delicious! So much so, we are going to order a whole pie next time. For dinner, we ordered the Rigatoni Fiortina and Penne with Brown Butter Sauce, with a carafe of Pinot Grigio. The meals were quite plentiful and most satisfying to the taste. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go to Villa Maria's, but if you're in the East Rockaway area, and enjoy good Italian food at a reasonable price, then this restaurant is a fitting place to go for lunch or dinner. read more

Been to Villa Maria pizzeria a couple of times within the last 7 years for take out and it's pretty good, but it gets cold fast. Not sure if its because of the cold outdoor temps, or because its cold before it goes back into oven to get rewarmed and served. For a day/time where it wasn't too busy at all (inbetween traditional lunch and dinner), thought it strange to wait as long as I did to only get home (less than 5 minutes) to a cold slice and lukewarm pinwheel. They looked good to select when there and alright when home. The Pepperoni Pinwheel was tasty and not overly greasy, total plus. Better size than other locations and you can see that they definitely layer/roll it up with care - 2thumbs up! The white slice, I've had better...even better there. Not going to lie, hoping to bring it up a bit I sauteed up some spinach and added it on top. It definitely made things better, but crust was still a bit tougher than preferred. For the price you pay, was hoping for better. Next time I try them and go back, I go for sit down Italian restaurant part and skip the pizza side. read more

My boyfriend and I have been ordering from this place for years but in the past two, they have been a mess. We order the same pie every time and 95 percent of the time it's wrong. Once they made it wrong twice, forgetting ingredients each time, even adding sausage instead of chicken, and forgetting sauce. Who makes a pizza without sauce? It's incredible how clueless they are. Their prices have also gone up astronomically. $11.50 for a chicken roll. They aren't even apologetic about getting these things wrong. Visit Date: December 12, 2015 I have always wanted to try Villa Maria. I decided to finally try them when I had some time to kill in between work and my friend's mother's wake. When I walked in I was seated immediately and the hostess was very nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant seems to be slightly dated circa late 80s, early 90s but despite that I found the food and the staff to be very nice and accommodating. I had ordered the brick oven 10" personal pie with eggplant, ricotta and mozzarella. The waiter and I were unfortunately not on the same page as I wasn't clear with him that I had wanted the pizza and he thought I wanted the pasta dish. When the pasta dish came out I spoke to the waiter and although this was probably my mistake he was very nice and he took the pasta dish away to put my pizza order in. I was given a bread basket and managed to get four slices of bread and butter down before my pizza because sometimes I'm a pig. The bread was delicious, fresh and the crust was just the right amount of crispy. The pizza was a thin crusted slice of herbal heaven. I'm pretty sure I was tasting basil along with the eggplant, ricotta and mozzarella cheese. Even though I can pack away the food I wasn't able to finish my whole pie and I split the rest with hubby the next day for lunch. He said they cooked their eggplant the right way. The service was fine and the staff was very friendly; the food on the other hand, is an entirely different story. My family used to go there all the time and the food was always excellent. I'm not sure what happened since then. Today was the first time back there in over three years and the food was inedible. From a basic slice of pizza, to garlic and oil pasta, up to the chicken bruschetta and other main entrees, the food was horrible and a bit pricey. After spending a decent amount there and not eating anything because most of the food was inedible, we ended up going home and cooking dinner.
