After a few local places as it where recommend it and yelp we stumble across friendly dolphin. Very nice old pretty building, inside of the restaurant is very clean and the thin took was a lot of old Mexico decorations. Bathrooms are very clean which is very unusual for Mexico. Tables and chairs and booster seat for a child also very clean. A lot of variety of food meat fish and vegetarian option as pub Llano cheese pepper which was absolutely delicious.I highly recommend this place. read more

The friendly dolphin does not take credit card but cash- pesos or dollars. The piña colada was tasty and had a sprinkle of cinnamon on it. I ordered the rebosado fish and it was sooooo good. The Shrimp Special. GET IT! Wow was it delicious. It was a combination of 3 of the shrimp dinners on the menu. 2 Raspberry Shrimp - shrimp with a chipotle batter, stuffed with cream cheese served with a raspberry sauce (that was my favorite!), 2 Bacon Wrapped Shrimp served with a raspberry and a honey sauce and 2 Coconut Shrimp served with a mango chipotle sauce. Fantastic!! It came with steamed vegetables and rice that was also delicious. I highly recommend the shrimp special if you like shrimp. My mom had Garlic Flounder which she said was lightly breaded, sautéed and also served with steamed veggies and rice. She said it too was delicious. Dad had the Fish Vera Cruz which is Flounder that is sautéed with vegetables (green and red bell peppers) that is one of his favorites. The chips and salsa are good and provide a variety of pico de galo and mild to medium salsas which were good. The margarita was just so so tasting more sour than anything. The Friendly Dolphin has been (for the last 10 years) my family's Rocky Point go-to for dinner, whether our trip is 10 days or 2 days, we always find a way to make it here. There are a few reasons for this. First off, the service is incredible! The waiter was so kind and tended to our every need, checking in on us and making sure our food and drinks came quick, etc. The atmosphere of this place is darling as well, super eclectic and lots of fun to look at. The food is also delicious and well-priced, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. (My favorite: the coconut shrimp). Altogether, the vibe of this place is awesome, service is unbeatable and there is a beautiful view of the harbor!!! read more

So disappointed with this restaurant. It WAS our favorite to visit during our trips to Puerto. We noticed that another reviewer mentioned that they add extra $$ to your bill when converting from pesos to US. Our bill totaled 3073 in pesos and "according to the restaurant" 181 in US dollars. The actual conversion would have been $159.03. That's a huge difference. We pointed it out to our waiter and he said something about what a bank would charge. I refuse to give business to a business that takes advantage of their customers or truly believe that they're too stupid to figure out that they're being ripped off. If you look at management's response on TripAdvisor they claim to accept credit cards which they claim would remedy the conversion problem but they didn't accept cards on our visit in October and they claimed to have started taking cards earlier in the year. read more

We are so glad we got to enjoy a wonderful dinner at the Friendly Dolphin. They reopened on our last day in Puerto Peñasco. It was by far the best meal we had our entire trip. The decor is whimsical and charming. We sat on the balcony and had a great view of the harbor. The coconut shrimp and margarita were like an out of body experience. It reminded me of the book/ movie, "Like Water for Chocolate" where the characters were seduced by the magical flavors of the food. Our waiter was very friendly and professional. The kids loved their meals and had a great time. Toward the end of our meal two guitarists and a singer serenaded us, which was super fun. Honestly, the whole experience was one of the highlights of our trip and we look forward to returning again and again! read more

Beans and rice cold, as if they just came out of the refrigerator. After 2 of us asked for them to be warmed up, by the time we got them back the other people in our party were done eating. This place will gladly screw you out of $50 like they did to us. We received our tab and there was a total and our waiter kept telling us we were short because of an extra order of chips and guacamole or because we were paying with both pesos and USD. Total BS! Make sure you know how to speak Spanish and you know the exchange rate if you're taking US dollars or only use pesos. Mediocre at best food. Decent drinks. You can definitely find a better place that won't try to scam you nearby. read more

We have been coming to Puerto Penasco since 1998 and we regard the food at this establishment to be the best available! The seafood is always fresh and prepared on site (no pre-packaged frozen coconut shrimp here amigos) the azteca soup is perfection! We have never found anything even close, and we have tried. The Chipotle shrimp fettuccine was spicy and delicious but ask for the shrimp 3 ways! Bacon wrapped, raspberry cream cheese and coconut (each with a different sauce) was amazing!!! read more

My review it's based on the service not the food. When we got there there was a large party and the waiters looked upset and overwhelmed. We basically had to ask for a table that was about to be empty, we sat ourselves down, and no waiters came to offer an extra chair (we got a 4 chair table with five of us). The space (upstairs) it's small and a person singing was extremely loud. I see nothing wrong with a load atmosphere if that is how the location it's advertised. We walked out of there since staff seemed upset at the fact that we had arrived. Very disappointed and angry. Blue Marlin staff welcomed us and provided exceptional service. read more

The Friendly Dolphin is back as a staple in Rocky Point. Not busy last night Wednesday we were only one there. Fish and Seafood were fresh and more than reasonable priced most served with fresh vegetables cooked perfectly and rice. Great atmosphere and view of the Port. Food was great! My husband had shrimp with a raspberry sauce that was delicious. My coconut shrimp was good too. Their rice and beans and flour tortillas were really good. This is a hard review to write.... my previous experiences for this place would be 10 stars but my visit this last time was a 1 star at most. I have always loved it! The LaFargga fish has been my favorite for the past 40 years and I have gone so far as to drive to MX just to eat lunch here and drive back in the same day. This weekend, we went on a Saturday night and we were surprised that NO other people were there. NONE! This concerned me but our birthday group did not want to redirect to another place. The patio deck was closed and the side that should've had the best view of the sunset had construction in the way and was dirty and dark. So we had a view of the shrimp boats and a building that was falling down. We ordered the 3 way shrimp as an appetizer and it was fantastic! The LaFargga fish was not. It seems like they use frozen fish that are formed into squares that you get in the frozen fish section of your grocery store. One step up from fish sticks that your mom made you eat when you were a kid. The fish was NOT fresh and you could taste and feel the freezer burn in the texture. Blaaah! The green chili cream could not cover it up and the cold cheese on top did not help. Sooooo sad that they ruined this place. No longer worth the trip and I should've accepted the empty restaurant warning and gone somewhere else. read more

What a great find! Apparently this was a long standing Rocky Point restaurant that once closed and re-opened. I'm so happy they did! Our food was divine and the decor made us feel like we were in our own little paradise. The shrimp were large and tasty, the service was impeccable and pricing was spot on. We sampled two shrimp dishes, one with raspberry chipotle and one bacon wrapped. Both were served with steamed veggies (yay!!!) and rice. Nice break from refried beans....lol. also got to try a mango margarita..yummm.... I can't wait to go back and sample more!!! read more

I used to take groups of friends visiting here but no mas. Went by myself this evening during "happy hour " but apparently 2for1 isn't for anything but beer and mediocre margaritas. For many years the Friendly Dolphin was one of the top places to eat in Rocky Point, but it shuttered a while back. Well, it's back open and the experience is like it was before. Typical Mexican menu with reasonable prices (by US standards) in a unique atmosphere. The upstairs dining rooms have a nice view of the port and sandy beach. There's also an outdoor seating area on the second level. Service is friendly and efficient, and English speaking. Seafood dishes are fresh--the shrimp ceviche was the best we'd ever had. We liked it so much this time around that we returned the next night. It's not going to blow you away, but for a good, standard Mexican meal in a nice atmosphere at reasonable cost, we'd recommend the friendly dolphin (aka delfin amigable). read more

After reading the reviews, we decided to give it a shot. NOT GOOD, 45 minutes to get our food, we were the only ones there when we arrived. I ordered rib eye and shrimp, well Am 98% sure the steak was microwaved, no grill marks, freezer burn taste, Im pretty sure because I was in the food service industry for over 25 years. In the interest of fairness Some of the other memebers of our party were pleased with other choices, i.e. Shrimp Cocktail, Shrimp meat ball soup, ceviche. You will have to park in the street, and walk up about 15 steps to enter, pretty good views ask for a window table. With all the other dining choices that Rocky Point has to offer, don't think we will be back to the Friendly Dolphin, by the way the only Dolphin in the decor that I noticed was the stained glass on the front door, nothing else that anything to do with the sea or dolphins..jus saying! read more
