I have been going to Friendly Nails for 8 years. It has been my go-to nail salon. I have enjoyed going there for many years. However, it has changed. I usually only get a pedicure and can't comment on how manicures and nail sets are. They have always been nice and friendly. Recently, my pedicures have been more sloppy - nails not cut evenly, cuticles not removed, and foot not fully scrubbed. The service also feels faster than it used to be. I have been feeling for a while to go elsewhere because I have not been completely satisfied but did not listen to my gut feeling. My last session resulted in me developing a painful ingrown nail on my left big toe. It has been painful and had to see podiatrist to get it removed. I have never had one and podiatrist agrees it was from improper cutting of toenail and improper cleaning. I will not return here for pedicure anymore. I agree with other comments that not all techs are equal. Some are really good, and others are just sloppy and don't seem to take pride in doing things well. read more

I usually go to a different nail salon in Kailua but they were booked and I needed a pedi asap. This place is across from Safeway in the plaza where Bedmart and Kaiser Permanente is (the old Down to Earth). It has plenty of free parking and is walkable if you're in Kailua Town. I should have known to turn around when I saw no one in the nail salon around noon on a Saturday, but I needed to get a pedi so bad and didn't really have time to do it myself. I felt very rushed, as the entire pedi took 30 minutes and was super awkward. The girl didn't talk the whole time, and also I don't think she offered me my entire pedi service since she just filed my toes, painted them, and rubbed my feet for a few minutes. They did have a lot of colors to choose from, which was a plus, but the nail polish wasn't high quality. It was very expensive and did not last long. The STRANGEST thing about this place was that when I went to pay the woman handed me her phone so I could Venmo her. I asked if I could pay with card and she just stood there with her phone in my face showing me her Venmo code to scan and pay her. I think since no one else was in the shop she just wanted the money for herself since her other transactions on her Venmo that she SHOWED ME were personal and none said "nails" or had an emoji for nails. Super sketchy when you pay someone via venmo and its over $50 for a junky nail job that wasn't even a full pedi. Ekkk, everything about this place made me cringe next time I will just do my nails at home. read more

I should have put my shoes on and walked out when I asked for hot water, not lukewarm water for my pedicure. After asking twice and then calling the manager, the 'tech' grumbled to her coworker and laughed, and then again, and then again. This is not a low-budget shop, $50 for a regular pedicure warrants some basic attention to service I didn't want to make a scene, and tried to make the best, but then I saw her cleaning her pumice stone in the same water my feet were in. Sure, it's all my dirt, but then she put it in her basket to use on the next person-- so it's a bacteria circus from pedicure to pedicure. read more

The gal who did my mani was friendly but missed a top coat completely on 1 finger. I also had to ask her to redo several nails because the white from the French manicure was bleeding into the clear nail bed part. I had never experienced that before and was surprise how quickly she was able to fix it. Wonder why she didn't just fix it in the first place instead of having me to ask. Anyways, I didn't expect my mani to last long because I asked for a regular vs gel but several started to chip the very next day. I should have suspected that. DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT CRAPPY SERVICE! They really deserve zero stars. As you can see, I've left a review before and it was a horrible experience. A lot of my friends go to Danny so since my girl in Waipahu wasn't available, I thought I'd give it a try. I showed him a picture of what I wanted, that French manicure but like a faded one. Anyways, as soon as he started he was shaking my head taking off my gel polish like he was disappointed. As he was filing it I asked if he could make it shorter. His response as he was flustered, "yah I need to fix it because whoever did this did a bad job and it's all different lengths, sizes, it's real bad." I was like oh ok I didn't think it was bad but whatever. As he proceeded he started shaping and filing it. I asked him if he was going to still make it shorter, he said yah yah and proceeded. The entire time he was with me he kept getting frustrated when I wouldn't put my arms or fingers the way he wanted me to have it. Kept huffing and puffing if my elbow wasn't bent a certain way for him. He was just about to paint and I asked him if he could put a glitter over and he said, "why you never tell me earlier, I could've done the powder (acrylic instead of polish)" and I said I don't want the powder, I want polish as he walked away. I said nvm no need. I then asked if he was going to make it shorter (which he still didn't do) and he said, "you want it shorter than this?" I was like yah I told you two times and you said wait. I was like forget it I need to leave. He said I tonight you came to me before? I said yah once but now I remember why I don't come here, because you're rude. He said I just want it to be perfect. This place is a total RIP OFF!!! My daughter and I went for a bridal shower at this shop. I was there for a pedicure and my daughter was there for fills. Apparently, the lady took it upon herself to pull all of my daughters nails off and put new ones on and charge me for a complete new set without asking me. I did complain since I was not ask but no one in the shop could help, not even the owner Danny. I was very upset over this and did not pay attention to her nails until we got home where I noticed that her nails are crooked and not very pretty. She did a poor cleaning of her cuticles. Those ain't diamonds at the back of her nails. So beware if you want CROOKED nails with poor quality and horrible cuticle care for $65 come here. read more

Literally NEVER coming here again or recommending. Went in first time to get a gel manicure. She put so many layers of polish, I looked like I had acrylic. Fine, I knew I shouldn't have gotten gel in the first place. Came back a week later to have it taken off. The lady was acting like she was in nascar, the way she was working. I told her I wanted to protect my natural nails as much as possible, she says oh yeah, no problem. The psychopath literally just used a drill to take off the polish. No acetone bath to gently scrape it off. Nope, I got the pit crew that BUTCHERED my nail bed. My nails are so thin, they peel at the slightest touch. For that alone, I would stand outside that place and scare others away. So be warned. I never write reviews for crappy places, but skimping on procedure and messing up this bad is unacceptable. read more

Had a wonderful experience at Friendly Nails. The kindest woman got me in first thing when they opened for a deluxe manicure and deluxe pedicure. Typically it's best to try and book an appointment but I happened to be waiting in the area and they were able to accommodate. I'm not someone who gets my nails done often at all, so it was a nice treat. She was sweet and did a great job. The massage was wonderful, especially for the pedicure! I went in for a fill looking for a milky white with chrome. After finishing, and paying $63 for a fill, this is my outcome. After speaking up about being upset that they aren't white and completely clear with little sparkles I was not welcomed with a good response. They dismissed me and did not give me many options. Upon looking at my nails further, the more upset I am with the look. I have brush hair encapsulated into my nail and the they look like I did them myself. Not worth that price for a fill especially when it's a single clear coat with one coat of chrome. I should have taken my money elsewhere. read more

I had a terrible experience today at this salon, the person who attended me has no idea what it's like to be a manicurist, she did a terrible job and even treated me badly when I asked her to remove the nail polish that was terribly applied. In addition to paying for the bad work, I left without removing the nail polish and I had to go to another salon to remove the nail polish and pay again.
