The food is better than anyone could think. Here is about the only Chinese place in this area. I stayed at a hotel one night around the corner. They deliver but they were close enough. Menu is typical cheap Chinese. Wow they are one of the cheapest in NYC. All the food is the Americanized stuff you expect. This doesn't mean it's terrible. I had the Bean Curd With Black Bean Sauce. It's $5.50 for the small. This comes with a few vegetables. It was okay. This was better than expected but tasted pretty usual. I ordered the orange chicken white rice and fried chicken wings (based on the overwhelming reviews and pics of them on Yelp, I just had to try them). The staff was very friendly and organized. I like that the place is family run and you can watch them work. The food is also cooked when ordered. The orange chicken was very good, one of the best I've had. I was impressed that the organs peel was fresh, not dehydrated like most Chinese orange chicken dishes. The white rice was cooked well and went great with the chicken. The fried chip wings were crispy, flavorful (battered chicken) and juicy. Added some hot sauce to the wings and it was on. I will definitely be back next time I'm in LIC. The four stars comes because they were not aware of the check-in offer in Yelp (free can of soda). I showed three people and they told me that was not their restaurant. Considering it's small size, what surprised me the most was that they had brown rice as an option. As someone who no longer eats white rice, this was very exciting to see. What was less exciting was the dish I had ordered: the Dragon & Phoenix. From the picture provided on the menu, it looked to be an even split of sweet and sour chicken with shrimp. It was a dark and stormy night...and I was tired of hotel and chain food, an occupational downside of being a consultant from the opposite coast! I resolved that what I needed to break the 'cycle' was a mega dose of Chinese food. I checked Yelp and found that Friendly Restaurant was the only Chinese that I could easily walk to in the rain (2 blocks). Undaunted, I donned my rain gear and headed out. I was a little apprehensive as I walked in, but I was greeted warmly and after perusing the menu decided on a sweet and sour pork 'fix' with hot and sour soup to take off some of the chill of winter night. I took a seat to wait and watch the increasing rainstorm. When my order came up (quickly) I was overwhelmed to see the quantity of food on my tray...a mountain of sweet and sour, a bucket of hot and sour and a quart of tea to wash it all down. I especially appreciated them taking the time to de-vein it - no poopy for me! 8pcs Wings: I was scared their buffalo sauce would be too tangy but to my surprise it was just straight up buffalo flavor-just the way i like it. My home chinese food restaurant. 23 years I have frequented here. I have nothing but great things to say about Mr. & Mrs. Wong and their service. There is an open kitchen to view everything there are doing to prep your food. They accept credit/debit cards, deliver, will do special order for meals. I find the traditional dishes the best with their singapore mei fun, house special chow mein, chow fun, & moo goo gai pan. Chop sticks are available if you need them. The downside is that they close early around 11pm monday-thursday 11:30pm friday & saturday and I believe 10:30-11:00pm on sunday. This is a business that has full investment in to the community and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. read more

I get that non authentic Chinese food is very common in NYC, but that doesn't mean customers can't adapt if you serve typical Chinese fare. Seeing the fries and chicken wings hurt my heart. Otherwise food quality is meh. It's an A on health which is a bonus but quality was average. Compared to other Americanised Chinese places this is a 3/5, maybe 4/5... I was thrilled they left a stack of menus in my apartment complex and the concierge kept them there to give the tenants options when it comes to food. I tried it and I am being generous with my review. I actually thought this place was more 3.5 stars. The prices are pretty much the same as any other chinese place. I had the chicken chow fun, chicken nuggets and a small lobster sauce. I couldn't believe I found a place that actually made the lobster sauce correctly meaning there is small pieces of pork in it. The same pork used in making wonton. Lobster sauce like the name implies means it's really supposed to be a thick broth type of sauce/soup hybrid and not a full blown soup that is super liquidy. Needless to say, it looked right but lacked flavor. The chow fun was not bad, but lacked more flavor, and the chicken nuggets were disappointingly cold. The order arrived pretty quickly and the guy answering the phone didn't seem to understand me that well. I almost gagged when the delivery man arrived because it's a Chinese restaurant and he wasn't. The tip money almost fell outta my hand from sheer shock. I'm debating if I'll go back, but it was ok for those days when anyone has a sudden craving. read more

This restaurant has been an integral part of the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens Bridge for numerous years and it's a staple in the community. The only drawback I have is, when a customer is paying for a service. At all times customer appreciation and satisfaction must be a number one priority. And a good relationship between the business and its customers must be established. When this restaurant wants' to charge patrons 50 cents extra to cut their fried chicken wings in half at the customer's request is very discouraging This should be an extended courtesy to the customer with no charge to them. In the outer communities outside of the Queens Bridge community they other Chinese fast food restaurant do not charge this fee. Very delicious and nice and hot, even after we took it back to the hotel. The staff was very friendly. There's not really any seating in the restaurant, but it's great for takeout.
