I live right next door to this place. I haven't ordered in years as I cook all of my meals myself. I wanted to make some Singapore Chow Mein Fun and only needed some roasted pork for it. I stopped in today walking through a front glass door with pigeon poop all down the front of the glass, the decor on the large plate glass window and walls were covered in grease and dust, not to mention the floor was completely filthy. They had an electric bike bike parked inside against one of the 2 tables also filthy. I think what got me the most was they have an "A" rating. Who in their right mind would ever give such a rating for a terribly dirty restaurant. I would never go back in there myself. Don't take my word for it. go and see. We get the egg drop soup, scallops and shrimp in garlic sauce (for him) and #171 bean curd and vegetables in garlic sauce (me). Dying to try the bean curd in general Tso sauce. You know, there is no proof a real General Tso ever existed? Somebody did a documentary on it. The food at ESG is universally good, plentiful, and well-priced. After COVID, the Chinese restaurants in Astoria were all subpar, and for a year, we just never ordered Chinese food. So glad to have found ESG and want to try some more of the hundreds of dishes on the menu. Can't give up the bean curd and vegetables in garlic sauce to do it. Had a Grubhub problem with a $50 delivery, and the restaurant was sincere and very friendly about it, but they couldn't help since they use an outside delivery service. The guy left the bag on the front steps of our 6-family house, took a proof of delivery picture, but never rang the bell. When I went down to investigate, neither the food nor the guy were there. Refund from Grub Hub, but the restaurant was out the sale which was a bummer. Either the guy took the pic AND THE FOOD and sped off, or someone stole the food since he left it in an open area. Very good for a Chinese takeout place. Love that they have a dinner special which includes soup - super economic and a filling meal. I got the hot and sour soup as a side- not the best I've had but it came with the dinner special so I was satisfied. They use big shrimps which I really appreciated. Servers are polite. Grease is the Word. Our local Chinese take-out seems to have to closed its doors for good, so I decided to try this place. Big mistake. The fried pork dumplings were sitting in a puddle of grease, the scallion pancakes were tough as shoe leather, and also incredibly greasy. I was putting everything on paper towels to sop up the oil. The same for the chicken chow fun. Greasy, greasy, greasy. Even taking several Tums did not help with the after effects, and I only finished around half of the things in my order. Ordered takeout for Saturday evening- We got cheese wontons, plantains, veg fried rice with egg, 3 jades steamed, with oyster sauce and shrimp and veggies steamed, with garlic sauce, wonton soup plus 3 free sodas. The woman on the phone is nice, delivery was on time in 30 mins. The plantains were good, meals and rice were good although we received 2 garlic sauces and no oyster sauce. The fried rice had no egg. This was the second time we ordered the fried wontons. The first time they were greasy and soggy so this time we asked for them to be crispy. They were crispier but just not very tasty. We won't order them again. The wonton soup was bland and disappointing. And when on the phone, we asked if we were getting free soda, she said yes and we asked for coke. Almost forgot about this review. Came here about 2 weeks ago to try something else other than what we ordered for delivery. It's all right. The only thing I like from this place is shrimp and broccoli because the shrimp size is pretty big and the way they make it is good but all other meals that we tried when we ate at this place were just so-so. We always order the same thing; General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken both with pork fried rice and an egg roll, with an order of pork fried dumplings. The reason why we do is simply because the food never seems to disappoint. It's hard to screw up Chinese food, and so far Szechuan Garden hasn't done that yet. read more

They have the least salty soups in the neighborhood. Delivery is fast. Portions are generous. I love the steamed healthy chicken and mixed veggies with the garlic sauce on the side and brown rice ($5.95). It is usually enough to satisfy me and is totally clean. Their tofu veggie soup with noodles is greta as an add on too, an dis only $4.95 for a quart. That is like 2 meals or for 2 people......
