The worst choice for "food" in Greenfield, MA. 1) Waited 5 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant 2) After 15 minutes of waiting, had to get up to request service (our presence hadn't been acknowledged yet) 3) After finally ordering, waited forever for the "food" to arrive 4) Got the something I didn't order (I got a BLT but had ordered a turkey BLT. The toasted bread was cold and soggy) 5) No one came to check on us - I had to flag the "waiter" down to tell him I didn't get what I ordered. 6) They took $1.00 off the cold soggy sandwich price. 7) My son had ordered a kid's meal, which comes with a free ice cream. When we finally got the ice cream order in, we waited. we waited some more. we waited even longer. I finally got up and went to the ice cream bar, where I saw our server making a largish ice cream sundae. Too large for the ice cream included with the kid's meal, but looking like the correct flavor... I said, if that's my son's, it's too big!" I was told that's what he ordered. "No", I said, he ordered a sundae that comes with the kid's meal. 8) They charged us something like $6.00 for the ice cream that should have been "free". 9) I asked to speak with the manager. I waited. I waited longer... 10) Finally, the manager comes out. My complaints (and there were many) fell on deaf ears - he argued with me that we had ordered the wrong ice cream. Unbelievable. FINALLY, he removed the charge for the ice cream. 11) SUMMARY: the service was awful, the food was scant, cold, soggy, wrong and way over-priced when it finally arrived. read more

As a couple of friends and I were heading home from a weekend spent in Vermont for a snowboarding trip, we passed by Friendly's and decided to have our dinner here. Once touch walk in, it feels like fast food restaurant similar to iHops. There was a hostess that greeted and seated us. The designated waiter that was serving us was very friendly and had a sense of humor. He took care of everything in a manner full way and I was pleased with his service. For the food, my friend and I ordered the 2 for 20 deal where you can order 2 entrees with a choice of 2 desserts or just 1 appetizer. We ordered the mozzarella sticks for appetizer and a clam strip and cheddar steak melt sandwich. As for the others, they ordered a chicken salads. The mozerella sticks where mini ones and it tasted like they were the frozen ones just reheated in an oven; basically what you'd expect from a fast food restaurant. The cheddar steak sandwich was pretty good I'd say. It had a blend of southern tangy bbq sauce mixed into the steak with melted cheddar on nicely toasted bread qith butter. As for the clam strips, I'd say it wasn't that great since it was mostly just breading more than the actual clam. Both our orders came with fries too but I wasn't a big fan of it. I'd say you're better off with waffle fries which were much crisper and had more taste. Lastly, I ordered dessert which was just a scoops of ice cream in a cup. It was the hunky chunky peanut butter chocolate. I'm a big fan of peanut butter and I really liked it. It's one of the signature Friendly's ice cream too. read more

Completely renovated, the restaurant is immaculate, the staff completely retrained and wonderful. The food was delicious, fresh and meticulously plated. The staff here are some of the nicest Friendly's staff I've ever seen. They always go the extra mile to be personal and caring with customers, and the mood at this particular Friendly's is a lot of fun, very laid back and a bit artsy, it's very Greenfield. I wish they had more gluten free and vegetarian food options here, I had to stop going here once I started eating gluten free as I could find nothing to eat anymore except french fries. I used to love to get their build your own Boca burgers... delicious! Wish they would at least offer gluten free bread and a dedicated grill space so we could have grilled cheese or something. Or all-day breakfast with a gluten free pancake or waffle option, just something! Their bathrooms always were clean too and overall this was always a fun place for us to stop for a festive, affordable family comfort food meal. read more

Ok, so I am floored that 2 days in a row we went to this restaurant and both times our orders were not at all what expected! When ordering a 12 oz sundae, one would not expect to get a 6 -7 oz, Jim Dandy! The Patty Melt was rather tough like the sole of a shoe and didn't taste as delicious as the website menu had led me to believe. I thought for sure the first night it was just an off night for them. I had gone here before with my honey and had delish food! So everyone is entitled to an off night, right? But when we came back, the very next day, we went back because we just couldn't stay away (like the cat.. you know the cat, that one). The 2nd night we snuck around the back to get our web order on the DL and not stress the process out. We waited, and waited, and unlike last night an employee did not emerge from the bushes, vaping. We waited and waited.. Apparently a few other people also heard of the the late ding-dong window... So we finally saw the friendly's employee silently make eye contact with us, carefully nodding us forward. It was finally our turn!!! This was it!! We were surely going to get redemption on less-than-par order from last night. We made eye contact, it was intense.. There was a nod, and receipt. Then our secret web order appeared bagless on the DL. I felt vulnerable and request super silently, through nods... telepathically suggested a bag. They clearly knew what would complete this transaction. Once all my goods were protected from the elements, I quietly exited as quietly as I entered. Had to wait for a table, but when seated, restaurant was not even half full. Waiter was friendly and helpful at beginning, but took fifteen minutes to deliver our two sodas and iced tea. Restaurant was hot and uncomfortable. Another fifteen minutes passed before food arrived then it was wrong. Waiter tried to take all three plates back to kitchen with him, but was stopped by myself and my husband. Drinks were never refilled. Horrible dining experience. I am SO disappointed with the recent changes at Friendly's. I've been a fan for 32 years, and now that they have gotten rid of crayons in favor of screens for the kids, we are done. Omg. So sad to this place fall apart. This was our go to stop when in Greenfield. We have been there twice this month and will never return. Now that they have a drive through service the wait time in the dining room is extremely long. The staff seem to be people that do not want to be there. I have seen eye rolling and remarks made under their breath. There also seems to be lots of drama going on amongst those in the front of the house. Today we saw a mouse running around and the staff spoke about it openly for along time right in front of us while we were trying to eat. We finally said enough and ask to speak to a manager. There was a bit of " I'm not going to handle this, you handle this" going on within ear shot. Finally this women comes out to our table wearing a filthy shirt and tells us the exterminator would be there in the morning. Well, just went in for a quick bite for dinner. Not real busy, for seated pretty much immediately. Sat at our table for 15 minutes and never saw our waitress. Another group comes in, gets seated next to us (same waitresses section,) and they get their order taken before ours. Keep in mind we'd already been sitting there 15 minutes..she says to us "I'll be right back", then brings the other table (that came in after is) their drinks, and proceeds to walk over to the table in the corner, never acknowledging us yet again, and takes ANOTHER order. We got up and left at that point. We hadn't even gotten out silverware. I'm not a complainer and rarely call management, but I will be this time. So I've been to this Friendly's before and never had a problem and tonight, my bestfriend and I were going to get an ice cream with my birthday coupon for my medium sundae. The restaurant closes at 10 and we got there at 9:30. We were going to get the ice cream to go as to not make anyone stay later than they needed to. We pulled into the parking lot and immediately got dirty looks from two employees from INSIDE the restaurant. They were pointing at our vehicle, talking to each other aggressively, and staring us down. One even moved closer to the dining area to look at our vehicle closer. Don't bother eating here. We had the worst meal and service was barely acceptable. The restaurant itself appeared shabby. My wife noticed the doors into the eating area propped open by menus on the floor. You wonder weather these menus will later be passed to customers. The tomatoe soup was so thick you could eat it with a fork and the French fries were cold. They did get us some hot french fries and the manager listened to our complaint. The entire staff and the manager looked like they needed some training. If I were the owner of this restaurant, I would start by replacing the manager. I will never go to this place again. read more

Well. This was my first trip to Friendly's, and it won't be the last. As other reviews say, get Allen as your waiter. He's the most gracious, kind, funny, genuine waiter with serious tats in Greenfield, if not the state. Upon entering, someone held the door for us. We took a seat immediately, where Alan met us and said 'looks like the party has arrived'. And boy was it a party: we got extra extra-bendy straws, huge waters, and a huge menu selection. The food: golden waffle fries, normal fries, onion rings (these were just ok) and a very satisfying burger. During the meal, we heard about Alan's recent date, fire pit, and tat plans for the future. We asked him about moving ice cream cake across the Canadian border, and he held our hands through the dilemma. When 3 out of 4 of us asked for buffalo sauce, he brought 4 out anyway, anticipating our desires. I tipped heavily. All in all, an amazing road stop gustatory escapade. I hate to give bad reviews, BUT I honestly refuse to go to this friendlys now. They have apparently hired new waiters/waitresses who are just young stupid high school kids with no experience at all what's so ever. My husband and I took our daughter here for lunch, late afternoon and our waitress was AWFUL! She never came back and didn't even bring out our food. She took our order and that was about it. She didn't clean her tables or care about the customers. The whole restaurant smelt bad, and we were not the only people unhappy with our service. This friendlys is going down hill. read more

My husband and I went here the other day on our way home from vacation, thinking we would get better than a fast food experience, how wrong we were! We waited about 15 minutes before our waitress even came over to us, and then it was to complain that she was busy because she had a party of eight. Then a different employee brought our food out, the waitress, Kara never checked on us, asked if we needed drink refills , dessert or anything. I had to push the call waitress button to get her to come over for the bill, which she rudely told us was on the table kiosk, ( she had never mentioned this to us) and then when I read it, the bill was wrong, which did not surprise us as we had overheard 3 other tables complain that their bills were wrong. When called out on that mistake, she said" Oh yeah, I have to fix that" so she knew she was over charging us! When manager came over we told him and he couldn't' care less. We brought our 5 year old last night for his birthday dinner & ice cream. Our waitress was horrible from start to finish. She came to the table and didn't even introduce herself, but says 'What do you want?' with an attitude. She walked away as I was telling her it was our son's birthday, not even one smile from her. We put in our order which did promptly come out and it was delicious; however it was not her that brought out our food. We were completely ignored the rest of the time. I had tried to get her attention NUMEROUS times, but she had NO personality skills whatsoever, never made eye contact and never came to see how the food was. Then, the staff came out singing Happy Birthday, but went to another table. Our son, beamed at first thinking it was for him, then bawled when he realized it wasn't. She obviously didn't hear me when I told her it was his birthday. She NEVER came back to the table to see what our son wanted for his ice cream either. Instead after waiting 20 minutes of failed attempts to try to get her attention again I HAD TO GO TO THE KITCHEN to finally get her attention! Because we rarely saw her and she didn't introduce herself, I don't even know her name; I can describe her as a black female, 5'4, medium build and wore black/brown glasses. We, along with our 5year old son, were completely disappointed with this waitress and our service. read more

I would love to give a good review because I've been going here since I was a kid but their service has gone downhill. Went there for their breakfast but because they kept us standing in the lobby area for so long (even though there were empty tables-just no staff paying attention) by the time they came to seat us it was 15 minutes before they officially stop serving breakfast and refused to serve us. We ended up getting lunch instead since we had no choice and we're starving. It took about an hour for our meal to come and the food was awful (generally I get the same thing every time and it's always the same but this time it was not). We weren't the only ones unhappy as a guy at a nearby table actually walked out because his food was taking so long. And they weren't even that busy, my guess is that they were poorly managed and understaffed. The waitress was also nowhere to be found and took forever to get our check. I tried to get take out on two different occasions also and their phone was endlessly busy, obviously the phone was left off the hook. They clearly need some better management before Greenfield loses another Friendlys. read more

In response to a review . . . Ya, I have heard of things more insane. I used to work for a friendly's and the waitresses would run around on the floor, bragging about how they had convinced a "regular" customer to help boost that locations ratings; the same customers would file a weekly rating, causing that store to rank on high reviews. It was really horrible. Yes, the problem with friendly's is - yes Management - not to say the least, as with many companies. All that is credential to being a manager is to be able to complete the register at the end of the shift. The ability to train employees, dictate a sense of professional franchise requirements or adequately address internal conflict resolution, is NOT required. To top it off the higher ups, above local management do not MANAGE their managers. Needless to say, it just leaves one hoping the manager isn't power hungry and dirty; or in the case of Friendly's just "careless" and "lazy". read more

I live in Greenfield and if you want ice cream in the winter time, you don't have many options. Really, its my own fault, because everytime I eat here, I always say I will never come back. Well here we go...just like the previous visits, the restaurant is absolutely filthy. The tables, seats and floors do not get a regular cleaning. I can't believe the board of health doesn't step in and shut them down. The service is poor. Also as usual, you walk in and stand there waiting to be seated, only to have staff and management walk by and ignor you. It took about 4 minutes to be seated and considering the restaurant was not busy, I find that unacceptable. We only ordered ice cream but it still took forever to get it. Ice cream was good but I swear, the portions are getting smaller and smaller each visit. The best part is I took the check up to the register(our server never returned) to pay the bill and the manager ran the card and NEVER asked how was everything. Amazing!!!
