My absolute favorite gelato in Rome! Stays open late, perfect to stop by after dinner and walk the beautiful streets of city before going home. Service was great. Line moves pretty fast so don't feel to discouraged if you have to wait a bit.
We stopped by Frigidarium while in Italy, and it was easily one of the best gelato spots we've tried. The texture was perfectly creamy but still light, and the flavors were so fresh and vibrant. I'm usually all about fruit flavors, and the strawberry was a standout--sweet, tangy, and tasted just like biting into the real thing. Unlike some gelato places that just feel like overly sweet ice cream, this actually had that authentic, high-quality taste. You can tell they use real ingredients, not artificial syrups. Didn't try the chocolate dip that everyone talks about, but honestly, the fruit flavors alone were more than enough to make this a new favorite. If you're in Rome and love fresh, real gelato, this spot is a must!
The Frigidarium ice cream is probably one of the most popular gelato stores in the area. The line is usually long although moving fast, and you have to pick up your flavors very fast as every one working here is rushing you, then pick the choice of either chocolate coat or wiped cream as toppings. I've tried their flavors of Frigidarium (very sweet), Stracciatella (creamy), Tiramisu (balanced rum taste), Pistachio Cheesecake (a must try here), and Cioccoarancia (dense texture and orange taste). Overall good quality but not worth the hassle if waiting line is really long.
Overrated tourist trap... The gelato is really sweet, maybe a bit too much. I tried the bacio here, and still prefer the one from Gelateria Cremilla. You can choose to get the ice cream dipped in white or black chocolate.
There is a reason why people waiting in line to buy gelato here and not across the street or other places on the same street. It's very good and original taste without any artificial add ons .
The mango gelato taste just like fresh mango! The lemon gelato is too sour. The chocolate fudge is so thick and rich. The line was long when i was there. Service is good. They gave you sample to try before we decided. It is a cute 'come and go' ice cream shop, no chair and table.
Good value gelato, but more on the sweet side. I thought it was overhyped. There is always such a long line, we came around 8pm and waited 15 min to get to the front. For 5€ for two gelatos with 2 flavors each, this is good value. Because of the long line, I was hesitant to sample any flavors but they did offer that. We tried the pistachio and hazelnut gelato. The pistachio was good and creamy, the hazelnut was too sweet for my taste. I also got them dipped in chocolate in a waffle cone, which topped the dessert off nicely but made it messy to eat.
Have to try their famous flavor Frigidarium which I've not seen else where! There was a line but they moved fast.
Very solid gelato. There was a line at night around 11:30 pm when I went to get some before leaving Rome in the morning. I got 3 types to taste which were mango (good), frigidarium (good), and white chocolate with gianduja (my fav of the three). The guy taking my order was patient and nice even though there was a line which I appreciate. And it's a little shop so the ambiance was, get your gelato, and now leave lol. Would def come back to try their other flavors.
It was our first time in Rome so thanks to Yelp for all the recommendations. Frigidarium was one of the highest ratings for gelato so we made it a point to taste it and it did not disappoint. The coffee had a kick on it and the chocolate flavor was a hit too. There's a long line but the service is fast. The ambiance is casual and it's like a grab and go thing. Everyone was just eating their gelato in front and on the side of the store. No table and chairs for customers but they say that's normal in Rome for gelato stores.
It's a funny old world. There we were newly arrived in Rome from Trieste via 6 other countries, and surrounded by living signs of ancient history that gave us so much today. Even Monty Python posed on what have the Romans ever done for us - all right, but apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? Brought peace? So luggage deposited our friends got a reply text from their daughter in Scotland essentially ya gotta get to this place as it's the best ice cream ever and they coat the ice cream in choccy. Dutiful doting parents instantly did as instructed. Enter google (I guess) and location found I think he said pinned, so off we went past the tomb of the unknown solider - Tomba del Milite Ignoto - past the statue of the goddess Roma, the Basilica Ulpia, Trajan's Column, Basilica Papale di Santa Marie just to name a few for bloody ice cream. Yeesh. So the ice cream was very good indeed and fairly priced but the servings weren't over generous. There are no seats and you literally stand in a small space for cheerful service. I always have a cone never a tub. I mean a tub? I can't eat a tub. A tub usually brings a plastic spoon and our planet could forgo more plastic. The chocolate ice cream coating was thin. It slowed melting and was tasty. It wasn't the best ice cream ever. But we did each eat our weight in ice cream when we were in Rome and Trieste. Now where did we put those ancient monuments?

This is my all-time favorite gelato place in Rome. I can not testify enough of how great it is. The flavors are amazing and taste so fresh. I love the variety. They will dip it in chocolate for you too! The best part is that it is under 3 Euros! I have tried other places and always been disappointment that I didn't just go back to this! The only downside is that the lines can be long in the summer and there is no place to sit. read more

Decent! I got the bacio for the first time and decided even though I'm not a huge chocolate-based ice cream person, this was delish. Not deep chocolate, but perfect sorta milky chocolate with crunchy hazelnuts. I also got the cherry one, which seems popular for Rome. Very good as well. I wouldn't say these were mind blowing, but I enjoyed both and we went at 11 AM so no lines at all. I passed on the chocolate shell. read more

The best gelato I've had in Rome was at Gelateria Frigidarium. Every flavor looked amazing, but I went with the Crema Fiorentina, Frigidarium, and the Hazelnut with Chocolate. Very creamy and perfect for a summer night. read more

Believe the hype, Frigidarium serves some of the best -- if not THE best -- gelato I have ever had in my entire life. The gelato is homemade in small batches so it's always fresh and delicious, and it's inexpensive to boot. The quality is off the charts, and this is a must stop for any serious foodie or lover of ice cream. Lots of different flavors are offered (but the original Frigidarium flavor is the BEST, and you get a special chocolate cookie on top if you order it). It's a little hole in the wall type of place with a couple of benches out front for sitting and stuffing your face. I make a beeline here to get my fix whenever I visit Rome. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! read more

Some of the BEST gelato I've ever had!! My brother and I went here 3 times in the 3 days we were in Rome because it was that good and that cheap! 2 euros for a small (2 flavors) was an unbeatable price for the quality and delicious free chocolate topping. They are known for their frigidarium flavor (cream, caramel, chocolate, and it comes with a cookie on the top) but all their other flavors are great. It's definitely superior than Giolitti's (which has gotten very touristy). read more

probably the best gelato i had while in italy. just so so good, totally worth the 15 minute wait in line. we got chocolate chip, vanilla, cherry, tres leches, and pistachio and all were amazing. read more

Of the many many gelaterias that I frequented in 2.3 days ( and there were many many), this one was tastiest with the best bang for your buck. Located to the side in Piazza Navona, the €2 tiramisu sugar single cone of gelato hit the spot after a yummy dinner in Campo d' Fiori. Enjoyable ice cream spot with loads of choices. We tried 3 gelato places in the area and this was our favorite. The Portions are big and you have an option to have your gelato dipped in milk or white chocolate. Originally, My husband and i were going to share a small cone since we had just finished lunch. After the first bite, i said we had to have separate cones! Lots of flavors to choose from. He got Bacio and Frigidarium flavor ..dipped in milk chocolate. i opted for Pistachio and Frigidarium - dipped in white chocolate. Both were so yummy that we barely spoke to one another for a good 5 minutes because we were savoring our treats. You can't beat the price. Small size is €2 for two flavors. No extra charge for whipped topping or having it dipped in chocolate. It's a small store front with 2 benches on the outside. The people were real friendly and let us sample some flavors. We will definitely come back if we visit Rome again. read more

This is a great place to stop for gelato, if you are ready to wait on a line. Frigidarium is an amazing gelato spot, which is why it's so popular. They have a bunch of flavors and you can even choose to get your gelato dipped in CHOCOLATE, which you'd have to be crazy not to! Their gelato flavors are good, pretty sugary but not overpowering, the chocolate dip is what makes this gelateria stand out from its competitors. read more

After spending the early afternoon at the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, the search for the next gelato stop ended at the intersection of Via del Governo Vecchio and Via Sora. There stood Frigidarium - proudly satisfying everyone's craving since 1988. It is a very small gelateria with only a bench on each side and a multitude of customers gathered in front, either waiting for their turn or already enjoying their treat. This was just like our Old Bridge Gelateria experience but with a cool twist! We joined the queue, waited for our turn, sampled some flavors, and chose the ones our palettes desired. Sounded pretty standard, eh? True that... until they asked us if we wanted our orders dipped in dark or white chocolate! Moreover, it was a freebie! How cool was that? 2€ for a small but very generous serving of up to 2 flavors in a cup or cone with a free upgrade. If you're not into those dark or white chocolate hard shells, you can opt for some whipped cream instead. There's always a big chance that I will try something that's named after the store itself, so I went with the Frigidarium flavor along with their Pistachio. The former was the closest thing to a burnt caramel, with swirls of dark chocolate and bits of cookies. Creamilicious but a bit on the sweeter side. However, the taste blended really well with the free dark chocolate coat. It also came with a complimentary cookie, so there's no wonder why they made this their banner flavor. I thought the Pistachio flavor caught me off guard. I was stripped of all my defenses. I did not expect it to be that delicious. Perfectly nutty in every sense of the word. Rich in flavor and contained pieces of ground pistachio. Natural pale color, which meant they did not force it to look any other way. Great stuff. My older daughter went with Stracciatella and Biscotto, which were their versions of Chocolate Chip and Cookies and Cream, respectively. My younger one had Passionfruit (yeah, she had plenty of lilikoi when we were in O'ahu) and, for the love of Cookies and Cream, Biscotto. My wife wears her "Sharing is Caring" badge everytime, so she was very content with her spoon. I did try some of theirs too, and they were very consistent with the texture and taste. Delizioso! This was a very refreshing way to recharge after having done so much walking. A very picturesque setting as well, being in a small cobblestone street enjoying some fantastic gelato in Rome. Yum! This place gets packed but the line moves quick. No seating here expect for two benches in front, which are usually occupied. Enjoy your cool treat to go or stand in the shade in between an alley. They have a nice variety of flavor options. I thought it was so cool that they offer free whipped cream or dark chocolate shell on top of your gelato. They also throw in a wafer for free too! It's delicious. Two scoops of gelato and all the above for €2, can't beat that. Their gelato is so creamy, light, jam packed with flavor, and well blended. Quality ingredients are definitely used here. Service is quick and friendly. I'm still dreaming about this place. read more
When in Rome, do as the Romans do - eat gelato!! By this point in my EuroTrip, I've tried 4-5 different gelato places and this one was by far the BEST. Everyone needs to try this place when in Rome! I wish I didn't live so far away because now I crave this place all the time. SERVICE - The servers were very nice. Many of the flavors are written only in Italian, but they will tell you in English what the flavors are if you ask. There's no seating area, but you can always get your gelato and explore the Roman streets! GELATO - You can choose between a cup or waffle cone to get your gelato in. I tried two different flavors. Pistachio - This is a very popular flavor at most gelato places, but this one was the creamiest and had actual small chunks of pistachio in it. The scent was very strong, and I felt like I was actually eating crushed pistachio nuts - only creamier and more decadent. A must-have for any pistachio lover! Peach - This one was HEAVEN. This is quite possibly the best gelato/ice cream that I've ever had in my life. I don't even normally like peach ice cream, but I saw that this flavor was quite popular with the customers and decided to give it a shot. So happy that I did! This gelato tastes like a thicker version of a peach smoothie with just the right amount of sweetness. It was creamy yet managed to maintain that light consistency of a regular peach fruit. On top of that, there were small peach chunks!! I'm still in disbelief with how they created the perfect mix of flavors. This is the gelato of my dreams. Overall, this place is a must-try when in Rome. There are plenty of other flavors besides the ones described - hopefully you find your own little piece of heaven :) read more
Aside from Gioletti, Frigidarium was on top of our must eat gelato list. My husband and I happened to walk by right at its opening (hey it's never too early for gelato!). We shared their amaretto and house special topped with complimentary whipped cream and chocolate covered cookie. The gelato were smooth and creamy. The complimentary toppings were a nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed both flavors! Overall - a definite must try in Rome! read more
Favorite gelato in Rome. It is all about quality here. They don't have as many flavors as the other shops, but they do them very well. They will also top your gelato with white or milk chocolate, or whipped cream with a cookie. The frigidarium flavor was easily my favorite - like a honeycomb flavor with crunchy pieces within. So good. Also loved the banana, dark chocolate, ginger, and passionfruit. Prices are also great at 1€ per scoop. read more

Outstanding gelato....arrived at the shop only to be met by a 20 minute wait which prompted me to ask if the TSA was doing pat downs before you got to order....all I can say is WOW--best Fkn gelato I have had to date. Ordered a 3 scoop cup for the amazingly fair price of 3 Euro. Got the following flavors--Frigidarium (truly delicious and the best of all 3), chocolate/orange, and vanilla. Topped it off with their hot chocolate sauce. First taste of Frigidarium almost caused a premature ejaculation, it was that good. read more

For anyone wondering, the fridgidarium flavor is salted caramel with chocolate, and cookies mixed in. The chocolate orange flavor is SUPERB. Get the dipped in chocolate (no extra charge) and it tastes like a DQ dipped cone. Rivals hard with Giolitti, but imo has better flavors. read more
THIS is the place to go for some yummy gelato. Wide assortment of flavours, I went here twice before I left Rome and was the very last thing I did. I went through buckets of rain being dropped on my umbrella to get to this place. If there was anything I would do is to get some gelato! I got a waffle cone for 3€, packed it with a scoop of raspberry, pistachio and orange chocolate. Then dipped in dark chocolate. Oh so good! They deserve 10 stars out of 5! read more
If you are a chocolate lover then don't miss Frigidarium when you are in Rome. Since I am not a chocolate person, I opted for the chocolate cookie topping (which my son also ate) but of course, my son had the chocolate dipped gelato. read more
Excellent gelato | Good Prices | Good Find $ I heard about this place because a friend of mine studied abroad and used to go here a lot. She is right! I don't know very many places that dip the gelato in chocolate (white or black), give you a good scoop (or two), and not rip you off. I think it's about 3 EU. We ordered two medio (medium-sized) gelato, 2 scoops each, dipped in chocolate, on cones. I'm pretty sure I got coco (coconut) and cioccolato (chocolate) and Garrett got the pistachio (pistacchio) and chocolate. It was busy when we went, but not to the point where people were lining up outside for it. There were only two people working and they seemed completely over their jobs :P read more
This place is as good as it gets. The lines can be super long but we lucked out coming here on a Thursday night. You have the option of cones or cups, both in 3 sizes. The chocolate coating, whether white or dark, is included. We tried four flavors: Frigidarium Pistachio Crema Florentina Coffee All four was very tasty. I must also add that this doesn't have the weird aftertaste that is common in some other gelato places. read more
I had the 3 scoops with chocolate dipped waffle cone. I cannot recall the flavors as the names were complicated but I enjoyed the cone very much. I liked this much more than Giolotti and Venchi but not as much as Suso in Venice. Nonetheless, I am definitely coming back before my trip is over. read more
Oh my god, THE most worth it gelato place in Rome. They do not play around here. It is €3 for THREE flavours, and you can choose to get your cone dipped in a white or dark chocolate shell for free. I mean, if that doesn't sell you, what will? The chocolate flavours here are so rich and decadent. The shop itself is in a super cute alley and always filled with people (mostly tourists) looking for that gelato fix. My only piece of constructive criticism would be that their napkins were extremely thin and waxy, not very absorbent or paper-like, which makes wiping the melted sticky ice cream off your hands pretty hard. But, who's complaining when the gelato is that good? read more
