Ever wonder how all those shops on Etsy specializing in personalized items stay in business? Get a…read morefull tutorial - and personalized item - through a 3+ hour class at AR. What a great concept. Ahead of time, you pick a project you want to do, and when you arrive, your set up and personalized stencil are ready for you. Nariné and Michelle did a pretty good job handling the group of 15. Unlike other craft nights, their help is critical through many steps of the project, so there are occasional lags in time. However, this gives you a chance to chit chat and take your time. That being said, many projects took longer than the 3 hours. We didn't feel rushed, but I do wish it had stayed closer to 3 hours. I'd recommend thinking a bit ahead of time what colors you want to use and type of paint technique you might want to use. These decisions can take a lot of time at the beginning of class. Definitely a fun bonding activity!

I believe they cap the class at eight so that you truly get the attention and detail in training that you deserve. Our instructors, Rene and Lauren, were phenomenal. They were funny and relatable and made the entire experience extremely enjoyable. After going over the basics of safety and glass blowing, we went one by one and received individual attention to make our glass masterpieces. We were given the choice of making either a paperweight, a drinking glass, a bowl, or a vase. We were allowed to pick any color of glass that we wished, and I appreciated the insight provided by the instructors as to which colors would go together well. I ended up making a beautiful vase with a translucent jade color with pops of white. My husband made a drinking glass in green and gold. From start to finish it was an incredible experience and something I would definitely enjoy doing again. So if you're looking for something fun to do in Sacramento while supporting a small local business and the arts, I would highly, highly recommend checking out Sacramento Art Glass.

My favorite exhibit was that of a large tapestry scroll mounted on the wall depicting the artists happiness sorrow and angst. I love art that makes me think and wonder what the [bleeeep] the artist was thinking when he created it. I stared and pondered then I stared and pondered some more. I took a picture of the giant scroll (attached to this review). And I meandered on through Verge museum in my mind space. The learning classroom was an outstanding walk thru as every wall is adorned with exemplars of student work. There is a small museum store in the front lobby area which offers unique glass Jewelery, 3 dimensional ceramic pieces, fabric totes, artist pencils, acid free sketch books, and several lovely coffee table books. I will return to Verge center as they offer art classes to the community and they have a couple kilns where you can buy kiln time... ‍

Gina's intro class was exactly what I was looking for - I went from zero welding experience to making a sculpture in a couple of hours, and I definitely plan to go back for the intermediate class at some point. Gina is a great teacher, and does a great job at making welding less intimidating. For context, I am a Software Engineer - so it wasn't like I was already a trades guy picking up welding. Even if you don't have a project in mind, the experience of welding something and getting to make a piece of art is so fun. I HIGHLY recommend taking a class here. I shared my experience with some friends out of state and they wished they had something like this near them. Take advantage of this wonderful studio!

FRANKIE VANITY Have seen Frankies art page on Facebook, Aaron and I made a beeline to check out her work which was vibrant and energetic. I am myself quite partial to themes of faeries, mermaids, the fantastic and any multi-medium work that especially features the works of Shakespeare. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/red-door-art-studio-sacramento?select=qmYrMOe0PcQwcwotixCaBA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w Frankie has a number of pieces that explores the work of Shakespeare and that is inspired by the sage's considerable body of plays.
