Unbelievable! We were staying in Ko Olina and had some BS resort "shaved ice". It was a snow cone...for a first timer in Hawaii this was crazy disappointing. Then we hit Frostcity and my eyes were opened! This place was incredible! Appearance - this was the only "weak spot" of the restaurant because the surrounding area was suspect looking. Once you got in, it resembled a local spot that was tailored to deliver on shaved ice and not on marketing dollars. Watermelon & Lychee - FIRE!! Normally I get chocolaty desserts but went with fruit as a lighter dessert following dinner. It was so refreshing and nothing was artificial. Pure watermelon and lychee flavors. The mochi and boba were a nice add as well. Black sesame & coconut- this was my cousin's order who is a bit more adventurous. Very unique but delicious combo. I love Taiwanese desserts and here's one more thing to be addicted to. The very nice lady at the cash register explained to us that instead of shave ice with syrup - this is a completely different concept. They create blocks of naturally flavored ice (made with real fruit juices) and then it is shaved down to order. The ice comes out in super thin layers and the ice melts instantaneously in your mouth. I ordered the watermelon flavor and it was divine. Comes with some fresh fruit, some flavored pearls (that pop in your mouth) and some choco sprinkles. It's like ice cream mixed with shave ice so it's like a creamy shave ice. My favorite flavor is the combo of sesame & milk. The combo flavors are a bit more expensive than the single flavor. On our last day in Honolulu I decided we needed shaved snow since no one had ever had it, let alone heard of it. And my siblings-in-law come every year so I needed to make this happen. This little gem is tucked in a tiny strip mall next to a jiffylube. You could drive right by and never see it. But once inside, there is a large variety of items to choose from as well as board games to play while you wait or eat. Shaved snow is a Taiwanese treat. It's a large block of ice cream that is shaved down into a mound of light ribbons of sweetness, accompanied by a scoop of mochi cubes, boba pearls (I think mine were peach), watermelon pieces, coconut jelly, and a strawberry cookie straw. I know, RIGHT?! My husband shared a watermelon/lychee combo with my daughter, my sis-in-law shared a pb/chocolate one with my nephew, and I went full Asian with black sesame and haupia (coconut cream). All the flavors were so yummy and light, just enough sweetness like most Asian desserts, and everything tasted like actual flavors, not syrups. The dessert is so light, it melts in your mouth like a perfect shave ice. My husband, who loves ice cream more than anything, has decided he likes this more than shave ice. Hands down. Every time we have someone come into town, we have to bring them here. Actually, anytime we're in the area we make it a point to come! :P This place is so unique and sooo delicious. I've been coming here with my family ever since it first opened (with its previous owners). This is Taiwanese snow ice, which is basically like shaved ice cream. The flavors are ALL on point. Our favorites are the fruit ones (mango, lychee, etc), green tea, chocolate haupia, etc. You can't go wrong. Even the small is a generous size, and we prefer to split a small with 2 people. The plates come with fruity popping boba, little fresh fruit cubes, mochi, jellies, or other cute yummy sides. My mom also likes to get the black sesame mochi balls in hot soup, because they remind her of her childhood. The mochi is perfectly chewy and the black sesame filling is delicious, but be warned that the broth is VERY ginger-y. If you're a fan of ginger you'll love it, and even if you're not I feel like it must be super healthy for you. Overall, you're missing out if you've never been here! I'm late to review, because I've been here a ton of times, and it's always super delicious. Today I bypassed my usual black sesame in favor of Thai tea. The flavor was good, but the condensed milk made it extra sweet. I think my very favorite still the watermelon / lychee combo, but I really haven't disliked a flavor yet. Suffice it to say, there's a probably a flavor to please most any palate (including durian). The other thing I have to tell you is that while it looks like a lot, it's super light tasting. You see it come out and think OMG, I can't eat all that, but it's like eating a DeLite Bakery guava chiffon cake, and it will be gone in no time. There's also fun stuff on the side, like fruits and mochi balls, and I'm not sure what...but all good. The staff is very friendly, and there are lots of board games for you to play. They also have a parking lot with about 8 stalls which is often full. Pro tip: If you're coming from town take the "u-turn" at the orange torii gate and you'll be headed straight into the parking lot. read more
