I'm unsure how it is possible to maintain a business without customer service. This really broke me heart to do because I believe that people are inherently capable of doing better. I think it's my responsibility to share my experience when trying to rent a car from Chad, the owner of FrunkYea Tesla Rentals. I wanted to take a road trip to Zion National Park; and so I figured what better way to enjoy the great scenic landscape of the United States than to rent a Tesla! So I went to Frunkyea.com, and found myself deciding between the Model X and Model S. I am a penny-pincher through and through, and I saw the Model S had a discount of 20% on the website. While the X is my favorite because it looks like a spaceship (and space is cool, duh), I thought that any Tesla with autopilot would suffice for the experience. So I check the boxes and set my calendar pick-up date for 5am on Thursday, 10/29. The drive to Zion is 8 hours, and leaving in the morning is the surest way to experience the park while the sun is out. I put in my card info and promptly get my belongings ready to prepare for the following morning's trip. I assumed a hassle-free experience: just pay the money, sign the contract, and take the keys. My experience was far from it. After finishing my booking, I promptly received a contract from Chad and a text to verify my license and insurance. After submitting my DL information, I take the opportunity to finish packing, at which point Chad texts me that the Model S is not available and that the website erroneously allowed me to reserve a car that was not available. It's ok - mistakes happen. Being in a family business, I have had my fair share of not updating proper information of store hours or available menu items. Humans are humans and we make mistakes. He tells me that the Model 3 is available, and having no other alternative for the day, I take it. I resume packing, and feel very excited about my next morning's venture. A few minutes later, Chad texts me to tell me that the reservation is too close to the morning and it would not be possible to rent for tomorrow. He kindly offered me a discount and immediate refund. This is totally understandable, and as the son of a business owner, I have seen this type of hospitality. While I was bugged, I can't pass up the gesture and understand this is just how the show runs. I was eager to still book the trip, either for Thursday or whenever, so I continued to message Chad seeking to finalize my booking. It became increasingly clear to me by his not replying to my messages that my business really was not wanted. Time after time after Wednesday night, Chad ignored and sparingly replied to my messages despite his business being open on Friday, Saturday, and yes today, Sunday. Any other customer inquiry would have gotten a suitable and timely response; the fact that I did not says everything. I felt he was actively and deliberately ignoring my messages, so I just created another reservation for the car he told me was available on Thursday, the Model 3, and decided to book on the website because I was determined to see a Tesla road trip come to fruition. His word yesterday night was that the car was available, and I magically received a text message promptly after my new booking ALSO telling me that the car is unavailable...AGAIN. At this point, this experience was a total disaster and nightmare. But I believe in the power of forgiveness, kindness, and redemption, so I made one last attempt to rent from Chad. This time, it really was a simple request (test?*). I just asked if any cars would be available Sunday, and he told me yes. I give him my desired time frame, and he tells me will check his calendar, presumably to see if the car is available. He never got back to me. I have been trying to book a car from Chad since Wednesday, and he has evaded me at every step of the way. I can't in good faith recommend a business that does not value customer service or a customer's time. The website is either unreliable in the dates and times it displays for the car to be available, or Chad is just selective about who can and cannot rent his vehicles. That's completely acceptable, since they are his Teslas. But I would not call myself a business. And I would not recommend Chad's FrunkYea Tesla Rentals because of his treatment towards me. Attached are screenshots of the conversation. Again, I really wanted to believe in this business and in Chad, but it is clear to me that I am not welcome. Message received. read more

This was a great rental experience! I accidentally booked the car for the wrong dates, but with just a couple hours notice, Chad had the car delivered to me just as my flight landed. If you want the rental to be a surprise gift for someone, Chad is great at facilitating the timing of the paperwork. Not sure how someone could have such a very different review than the one I'm about to give, as well as the multitude of other positive reviews I saw before renting with them. I was fortunate enough to rent their white Model 3 named Casper, and take it from San Diego to Las Vegas for a week to try out the car before buying one. Chad was super nice the whole time. He even allowed me to pick it up slightly early and gave a very in depth tutorial of the car. After a week with the car, we had an absolute blast! During our trip I even texted them a couple times to ask questions and they responded quickly. There was no mystery about what money I was spending, and when I was expected to return the car. Overall a very positive experience for us. Even today, Chad is helping me with advice on Tesla purchase options and aftermarket companies that provide cool stuff for the Tesla. I'd totally rent from them again! If you don't like renting from a private owner and getting a WAY cooler car, then I'd suggest going to Enterprise and getting a basic car for what you'd spend here.
