I would never come and eat at this restaurant ever again!!!! To start the service was horrible from the start, that should have been a sign to leave. The hostess was rude and it was a guy in his workout clothes. I think it was the owner. He just said how many and had a attitude walking us back to our table. Then we waited 10 minutes for a waitress to help us. Then she came and the we waited 30 minutes for our food to come. It was not even busy there was only two other customers in the restaurant. Now I know why!!! That should have been another sign to leave before we wasted our money. We ordered menudo and when it came out it was watered down and it tasted like dirty water. It was not fresh and the hominy was distengrating. The food and service was horrible. I had to add a lot of powder chili, lime and salt to make it edible. I was a regular but will not go back. I ordered chicken chimichanga and when I took a couple of bites I found a pretty good size of chicken bone in my food. I could not eat the rest. I told the waitress and she said sorry and walked away. The owner came to us and I told him that there was a chicken bone in my food and that I could not eat anymore of it. His response was "well at least you know it's real chicken" then picked up my food and left. We got the bill and they charged us full price. We said how disappointed we were being regulars. He said "well if you don't want to come back then don't". Owner was rude and didn't care. Oh well he just lost regular customers. Time to find a place that has good food, good services and a manager that knows how to keep customers coming back. read more

We have been looking for a go to Mexican spot since moving to Erie. Unfortunately, Azteca was not it. The meats were overly spiced, salty, and stewed. Also, not a good value for just above Taco Bell quality. I paid $16.50 for a barely fried chimichanga, and rellano smothered in what seemed like canned green chili. I hate to write bad reviews, especially for local businesses where I live, but Azteca has disappointed time and time again. We've been there a half-dozen times, since they are the only Mexican place in town - and EVERY single time, I feel like I could read half of Gone With the Wind by the time our food actually arrives. They are consistently understaffed, and on Saturday afternoon this past week where there were only a handful of tables in the restaurant, we had to wait over and hour for our food. With small children with us who are hungry, and we hear "WE ARE OUT OF CHIPS, SORRY" - OUT OF CHIPS, at a Mexican Restaurant? Really? No chips? I give it two stars only since, once the food does come, it is "Pretty Good" - maybe a C+ or a B- on a good day. If you come in with a large table, plan on being there for a long time. Every...single....time... There is a brand new Mexican place opening up about a mile away in Erie, and I have high hopes it is good, and with good service. If it is, Azteca is going to struggle to compete. Reviews like mine are certainly whiny, I know, but I do believe you vote with your dollars, and Azteca has done nothing to earn my votes. Very good food and I've lived in colorado all my life, eating at many Mexican restaurants. We had the chili rellenos and beef burrito. Green chili delicious. The service was fantastic. Thanks to our waiter who suggested one of their specialty dishes. It had ample servings of pork in green Chile sauce, beef in red sauce and a Chile relleno. I never would have considered it, even tho I love all three items. It was served with tortillas, cabbage salad, rice and beans. Highly recommend it. read more

I've had an office in Erie for a couple years, now, and I've watched restaurants come and go in this location (across the street from us). I thought I'd try this new place out, as it's convenient, and local. When a friend and I went in, they were friendly, and the place looked clean. We requested a place out on the patio, and they were happy to oblige. The table was simple but clean. The prices were quite reasonable ($6.95 for a burrito lunch combo), and the chips and salsa came out quickly. The chips weren't that great, but the salsa was good. I had a margarita, my friend had an Arnold Palmer. I had the burrito combo, and he had the fajita. We were both quite pleased with our food, and left feeling happy and took a walk. My margarita was good, too. I'd say that the service was pretty good, the prices were good, and the food was good. All in all, a decent place to go for food in Erie. I'll definitely go again, and I'd recommend it. The food wasn't particularly spicy, but you could request it spicier if you wanted to. Overall, for the fajitas, the Arnold Palmer, the chips and salsa (included), the burrito combo, and the margarita, our ticket came to $32.20, including tax. That seems reasonable in this area for two lunches and a drink. read more

I reviewed Azteca back in 2012, and we still go there on a regular basis. Just recently we ordered take out, and it's still as good as ever. I had the chicken flautas, and they were hot, crispy and delicious. I only ate 1/2 my meal (because there's so much food), and saved the other half for my teenage daughter to eat later. She warmed them up in the microwave and they were still awesome. Hubby had a combo plate with a burrito and enchilada. Again, very good, and spicy. He likes things hot, and they always get the heat just right. Our bill was only about $25, which seems reasonable for the amount of food we got. For some of the recent naysayers -- you don't go to a mexican restaurant and get a corn dog or hamburger. Or beef tacos? This isn't Taco Bell. Ewwww. It's a MEXICAN restaurant. Get a relleno, or tamale or some REAL Mexican food. If beef tacos are your idea of Mexican food then maybe you should go to Taco Smell. I LOVE Azteca and will continue to go back. read more

Not bad. Hard to figure out what their hours are. It's not listed on their web site and sometimes the sign on the door says they should be open, but they're not. It's never been crowded, and It's possible there's only one waitress. (She's a very fast talker, but otherwise very professional.) The place is split in two, half is for the bar. Seemed clean, with interesting traditional (well, by 1950's style paintings traditional) decor. Not a large restaurant by any means, but it's nice to have somewhere quiet and local to go to. The menu is huge, and the have some interesting offerings. They bring out chips, salsa and a very interesting chip 'dip' that I can only describe as the Mexican version of coleslaw. The salsa is too hot for my taste, but we both like the other option. It's dry and in small bits, so it can be messy, but it's cold and good! The meat is a bit on the saucy side, but not overwhelmingly so. we don't feel overwhelmed by the amount of food we get, but we also don't have leftovers, so it's a good stop-and-eat place. There's no parking lot, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. read more

Best Mexican I've found in this area so far. Portions are large, service is great, fair prices. The salsa was super. The Margs were nothing special - the house version is just your standard supermarket mix - and at $5.50 aren't cheap. Had the Azteca burrito which was good and large. We will be back here for sure. I ordered a dish here that was supposed to be from the lighter fare menu, and it turned out to be basically a vegie burrito swimming in some kind of oil, and it tasted as though it was a meat based oil. There was so much oil soaking the burrito that I had to send it back. Not something I do very often. They were good about it and brought me a lighter entrée that was not swimming in oil. However, it was still very soggy. The whole experience kind of grossed me out to be honest. I have eaten here before, and it was fine, but I am not sure if I will go back. Another thing, on the menu it says the first round of chips and salsa is on the house, and you have to pay $3 for any thereafter. I have never heard of that. Usually, they will just bring them if you order an entrée at no extra charge. I like the outside patio and the service was fine, but not enough for me to raise the stars. read more

Saw "Los 3 Chiludos" on their menu: New Mexico green chile, Colorado red chile, and a relleno. I consider myself a chile connoisseur, so I bit. Enjoyed a quite fine margarita while I waited. This is just a mediocre Mexican place. It is not bad, but it is not good. The salsa is good, the food has some flavor, but that is about it. We left here just feeling like yeah OK we ate some food, but it wasn't really worth it. It is a lot better than Si Senior, and better than the place that was here a while ago. Not as good as the new Grandma's Kitchen down the street, and certainly not better than Three Margarita's in Superior and other locations. If nothing else is open and you are starving go here, otherwise go somewhere else and really enjoy what you are about to eat. read more

We are new to the area and decided to give this place a try in spite of some of the lower reviews. I'm really glad we did because 3 out of 4 of us really enjoyed our meals and we had great service. The salsa is too mild and watery for my taste but my carne asada tacos were delicious and my daughter had chicken fajitas that were very good. The burrito was big and filling but my son didn't care for the red sauce. My husband tried a margarita and was pleasantly surprised and our waiter made me an adult version of strawberry lemonade (with vodka). Overall, we had a nice meal on the patio and enjoyed our visit. This place is one of the better options for dinner in Erie, anyone who has lived in Erie for awhile will know we don't have many great food options. The tacos pastor are good and the chile relleno is excellent. The green Chile sauce that comes on it is great and I recommend asking for a side of it if you order tacos cause it goes great on the tacos. In the top half for authentic Mexican food. Good salsa, good chile relleno. Enchilada sauce was a little different, It was sweeter and perhaps also saltier than is the usual. Chicken enchilada was too salty, but being that the cheese enchilada was fine, it must be a combination of the salt in the chicken and the sauce. Be sure to mention happy hour because they probably won't remind you. Stopped by last night at 8pm, 1.5 hrs before their posted closing time, and the front door was locked. We were directed to the side door by a couple sitting on the patio, only to be told by the dour server that they were closed because they 'can't cope'. Maybe it had been busy earlier, but by this point there were a lot of empty tables. News flash, it's a long weekend and people often go out for dinner on the Sunday of a long weekend as they don't have to work the next day. Maybe staff accordingly. We've always stayed loyal to Azteca in the past, but we took ourselves over to La Casona di Mariachi, who were more than happy to seat us. The food was on par with Azteca, so I doubt I'll rush back there. read more

Delicious, fast, reasonably priced, authentic Mexican food in Erie. Did I mention delicious? Because it's delicious. We had tried the previous Mexican restaurant in this location, and weren't impressed, however Azteca is a different story. The atmosphere is clean and family-friendly, but due to an abundance of booths and a very good bar, it would also work well for a date night, too. The salsa and chips were served promptly and were very tasty. The salsa in particular was fresh and flavorful, with just the right amount of spiciness. Our food arrived quickly. My pork Azteca burrito was not only delicious, but huge. I took home about one-third of it. We didn't try the happy hour margaritas, but opted instead for the handmade margaritas - more expensive, but so very worth it. I'm picky about margaritas, and these were well-balanced and bursting with fresh lime and deliciousness. Maybe we'll try the happy hour margs next time. Maybe. Highly recommended. read more
