I came in for the first time a couple weeks ago and I have to say, this place was popularrr. Lines almost out the door and the wait time being up to 20 minutes. I have to say it was worth it. The food was delicious! And not to mention there was one worker running around taking care of everyone and everything! Probably the best Japanese food in Greenville NC, the serving sizes are gigantic the food is always hot and they cook their meat to the correct temperature for different cook style (well done , medium well and medium rare) . An Asian Bistro with split dinning options. They have one side that offers fast options to go but they provide tables for you to sit and enjoy your take out. Then on the other side you have what appears to be seating where table service is provided. Unfortunately there is a failure on behalf of the establishment to make the distinction between the two seating sections clear. Unless you wonder from the takeout side then they will follow you to clear up any confusion. The menu on the take-out side consist of hibachi style offerings with the option of adding teriyaki sauce. These lunch plates come with combo proteins, rice, and vegetables. You place your order at the register, pay and then wait for your number to be called. Then you can take your food and grab a seat. Three people for lunch with beverages $29.77 Overall the food was ok, no complaints but not a stand out either. So next time I'm in NC I won't necessarily look for Fuji but if someone suggests it, it won't be an automatic shut down. read more

This place still stands to be one of THE best hibachi locations in Greenville as far as a dine in experience goes. The lighting is fair inside and out, the bathroom is small but clean, and there's a section for grabbing an order to go or eating it on that side, or dinning in, in which they bring them out in these cool eating trays. The parking lot is a semi wrap around lot. The customer service is good, the food is hot, fresh, and made to order no matter which side you sit on. The atmosphere is either a causal restaurant type one or a to-do type one depending on which you pick. We had no issues with our order. The sushi chef came onto the floor though to clean his nose out, which is not the greatest move ever. I didn't order sushi. In spite of that though, I recommend this location! read more

There was nothing spectacular about this establishment, I wish I had a better experience, but sadly Fuji Japan is nothing to brag about. My husband and I entered the restaurant and were told to sit wherever we wanted, we decided on a window booth, sadly my husband almost fell out of the booth because of the damaged booth chair- whoops! We relocated to another booth and checked out the menu. I was a bit let down that the sushi rolls did not have an explanation as to what the ingredients were (if I didn't know what a Philadelphia roll was, there was no list of what went into the roll). Since I was unable to see what went into each roll, I ordered two typical rolls, California and Shrimp Tempura. My husband ordered a bento bowl. Our waiter was kind, but generally unable to explain the rolls to us. Our food arrived quickly, but the flavor of a fresh roll was simply not there. I think I enjoyed my hot saki more than the sushi. The prices were a bit steep, but not a deal breaker. Sadly, we will not be returning, I had such high hopes, oh well! read more

It is hard to rate Fuji Japan because it is really two restaurants in one. On one side there is an express side. It is great if you need a quick lunch during the workday or a quick dinner before a movie. But it is not quite up to par with the "fine dining" side where the real magic happens. If the express were rated on it's on, I would give it 4 stars because you cannot give it 3.5. In other words, it is above average but nothing to make a special trip for. But the main restaurant is much better. The menu options are more extensive and include the chef's specials which are by far best meals available at the restaurant. Tonight, I opted for Fuji Japan Steak while my sister chose Pepper Steak. Both of our meals or incredibly delicious. The fine dining side would receive a solid 5. I cannot say whether or not the sushi at this restaurant is good because I think sushi is disgusting LOL. You will have to look at other reviews to determine if you might want to try it. As far as service, the express side is always quick and the fine dining side always exceptional. The atmosphere of the two sides are what you would expect with the express side being functional and the fine dining being more decorative and traditional for an Asian bistro. Poor food quality pretending to be Japanese. I ordered the tempura appetizer and it was not a tempura batter which is light and crispy. This was a bread crumb deep fried mess. I had the Hibachi steak, chicken and shrimp entree. The steak was tough and grisly. I prefer Tokyo and wanted to try another location while traveling on business. Tokyo has a much better quality. They tried to not remake my plate but i intervened. Shortly after the cook took my plate that i brought back 2 hours later and added the meat back to the grill. I SPIT IN THE PLATE AND TWIRLED MY FINGER AROUND JUST IN CASE THIS HAPPENED! i watched them like a hawk just in case they did something suspicious to my food. Went in to get some take-out as I saw they had sushi on the menu. However, when I got to the restaurant the take-out area was separated and apparently had a smaller, limited menu. Didn't wanna settle for just a California roll so I opted for the hibachi steak and shrimp which was delicious! Fuji Japan is one of my favorite sushi places. The decor in their "fine dining" section is quite nice and the service is always good. Their sushi is priced like the sushi you'll find pre-packaged at grocery stores, but it tastes a hundred times better. Fuji Japan serves generous portions of fresh fish and avocado on their rolls. They have a "buy one get one" menu of specialty rolls that offer many interesting and delicious combinations of ingredients. Their lunch and dinner specials offer 3 rolls of sushi and soup or salad for $10. Overall, I'd say this place is the best value I've found for my sushi dollar and I eat here every time I'm in town. read more

This might be the worst Hibachi I've ever had. Huge chunks of chewy meat that I am not even sure were cooked Hibachi style. The vegetables lacked flavor as well. Still edible, because like pizza, even when it's bad its still not that bad. I ordered from the express side and the service was quick and quite a large portion for the money. I will give them that. I have never eaten on their "fine dining" side but I can only assume it's worlds better. I hope. I don't mind well done but crunchy should not be acceptable. 2- place was dirty, napkins on floor, sticky, soy sauce on counter where order, glass window where cook looks like it hadn't been cleaned in decades, charged $1.50 for 1 small container of spicy mayo, one we left they rushed to lock door at closing, did not ask if we were eating in, put our food in to go bag when they still open for 45 more minutes... I could keep going. 3- tried to sit in the nicer dinning area only to be told they were closing that side in a few minutes when they hours state open longer. read more

I think more than anything the problems are the customers - you'll find a parking lot of people being jerks and blocking the front of the store, as well as people complaining when they have to wait twenty minutes for their food during peak hours. I stayed at the Hilton in Greenville 2 days ago and not being familiar with the area, I was trying to grab a bite to eat for lunch before my next appointment. My husband saw your restaurant across the street and suggested that we try it. It was so wonderful that we went back the next afternoon before we had to head back to the coast. It is not fancy or pricey, but the food makes you feel like you are! The attention to details made it special. The owners and staff are very friendly and efficient. Ordered takeout yesterday for dinner and was very dissatisfied. The Teriyaki Chicken was lacking the thick, (watered down), sweet and delicious flavor it is known for. I now get more rice and less chicken for the price I pay. I also noticed that the "white sauce" is not as thick as it used to be. No. I did not at all agree with the inattentive waitstaff, which was a result of a very large table, but also due to two servers, and the hostess doing more than her share of responsibility. Strike One. My dinner companion and I waited for our server to come take our order, but to no avail did she remember we were there. I mentioned it to the hostess, who herself was busy clearing a table. I continued to wait. Strike Two. Finally, our order was taken. The the food came out faster than I expected, relative to the wait time for everything else. I ordered a combination of three sushi rolls, while rolled up fairly neatly, consisted of too much rice, and too little meat. None was very distinctive from the other. My companion ordered a chicken-veggie entree which tasted like grilled chicken cooked in sesame oil, with only the flavor of the oil distinguishing it from any other home cooked grilled chicken. The veggies were tasteless, and the white rice, clearly hours old. Strike Three, x 2. I have never eaten steak and shrimp like this! The steak is tender not chewy, the grilled flavor has a smokiness to it. The shrimp are tender and juicy not rubbery like some places that overcook the shrimp. The size of the shrimp is big and so are the steak pieces. The food is not over-salted like so many places here do. The rice is tasty and not sticky and the veggies are fresh and tasty. I love the ginger sauce and the creamy sauce neither are overly salty either just very flavorful and totally accent the food perfectly. I just got takeout sushi. Paid $18 for two sushi rolls that are completely inedible! The tuna is tough, almost gray in color and beyond foul tasting. I am so disappointed! This is the worst sushi I have ever had. What happened? Fuji used to be one of my favorite places to grab a roll. read more

Ok. So the bulgogi was amazing. Authentic Korean flavor. The gyoza however because it was pan fried instead of steamed or oil fried was not so good. I give it an okbfor flavor. However they were all cold. They just need to cook them longer before serving and they would be perfect. I will still cin me back again for the Bulgogi! read more

Troubling experience eating at Fuji tonight during a one-night stopover on a business trip. PROS: Nice atmosphere, VERY inexpensive prices, and very good sushi rolls. CONS: 1) I found what appeared to be a long, gray hair in my salad (which itself was just lettuce from a bag in the worst ginger dressing I've ever had). No apology from the waitress, or acknowledgement of how unsanitary and unsavory an experience that is for a customer, or attempt to comp any part of the meal, though she did replace the salad with soup. 2) The soup isn't miso soup, but rather a thin chicken broth that was both unappetizing and out of place at a Japanese restaurant. I had one spoonful. 3) There's a locked Wi-Fi signal and when I asked to use it, the waitress told me even SHE didn't know the password. (If you don't want your customers to use your Wi-Fi, hide the signal.) Beyond that, while the waitress wasn't rude, she certainly wasn't friendly, and didn't react at all to my hair-in-the-salad issue, or apologize, offer a make-good or comp the meal. I paid my check in full and made a point to hand the bulk of my tip directly to the sushi chef at the bar, who was very nice and made good sushi rolls. Very disappointing experience. read more

I used to love coming here, but lately it's gone downhill. Our service tonight is the nail in the coffin unfortunately. 1.) We came in and it took about four minutes to even be acknowledged that it was seat yourself. A sign would be great and keep the staff from having to tell people that. 2.) No one acknowledged our presence once we sat down. There were two staff who were very loudly and unprofessionally talking about two servers who were late. Both were texting rather than assisting any customer who had sat down (there were three after us.) 3.) Once the server finally showed up, she asked what tables had been served and the two staff working refused to help her decipher who to serve first which resulted in us getting our menus and drinks last even though we were seated first. The two staff members were also wearing hoodies and jeans which I'm sorry, is unacceptable at a restaurant where hibachi costs $15 a plate. 4.) The waitress was VERY nice and the only redeeming thing about the whole visit. However, she failed to submit our tickets together so the sushi was done 25 minutes before the hibachi portion. Absolutely no apology or anything was offered. The food was ok at best. 5.) As we were leaving we got the pleasure of the two staff members fussing out our server who was clearly new over closing out a ticket. The server was almost in tears. Super disappointing and will not return. We watched five or six people walk over lack of service, I assume they stay open based on their takeout. read more
