One of the best sushi restaurants we have been to. We always go to Fuji if we want good sushi without paying too much. The price we paid for is somewhat cheap with the great quality of food we get. The sashimi is a decent size, pretty fresh too. This restaurant is hit and miss with waiting. We have waited probably only once or twice for less than 20mins to get a table for 2. But be careful, if you are not finished with your food let them know, the waitresses have a tenancy of taking your plate away even if you still have a piece of ginger on your plate. read more

Ordered pickup through Grubhub today, at first it said it would be ready in 20-30 minutes, but after I placed the order, I received a message from Grubhub, said 'Your Grubhub order will be ready for pickup between 7:10 PM and 7:20 PM at Fuji Restaurant, 698 Hancock St.', and that was at 6:19pm, which means it would be another hour wait, so right away I called Grubhub to cancel the order, and the girl at Grubhub said she would call Fuji to see if they already started making it, and her response to me was it's okay to cancel, and she already did for me. What made me give this restaurant one star is, the owner of Fuji called me at 7:05pm, and asked me harshly why I canceled the order, I explained it to her what happened, she said she hasn't got any call from Grubhub regarding my order, I had to try to stay cool cuz her tone was really unbearable, and I am (was) their regular, but she just kept going and going. Come on, i wanted my dinner too, but if I knew it would take more than an hour for my small order, why would I still place it, and then call to cancel? Give myself more work? Super affordable, special rolls are all under $12, each pieces are big but not packed with rice. I've had dinner here twice, both time I paid around $40-$50 for 2 people and both of us were full and satisfied with everything. Servers are attentive. Plenty of street parkings. Food comes out pretty fast. Right on Hancock street which is perfect if you'd like some bubble tea/dessert after, there're plenty of options nearby. Pretty decent a place given the size. My maiden visit to Fuji was quite satisfying. Went in the other day for lunch with a coworker. Feel especially good about the fact that Quincy has so many options to choose from, for some really decent, if not mind blowing sushi. Put Fuji in that bracket as well. Here are my takeaways: Ambiance: 2.75 / 5 That wasn't intentional to start with the not so great part. Probably is the only aspect which makes this place a much more down to earth or take out option. It is quite tiny. About 7 tables - with maybe a max seating capacity of 20. There was a steady flow of patrons during the lunch hour. The interiors are very low key, minimalist and rightly so, quite understated. Expect to hear everything what is being said and discussed at the table next to you Food: 3.75 / 5 The good news is (hopefully - at least in our case), what you hear from the table next to you is all about the food. The understated and down to earth decor of the interiors is a surprising contrast to what you get served with. Every piece of food in our very flashy bento box lunch special was fresh and tasted quite good. Especially the dumplings and gyozas and fried veggies in one corner - they were really well prepared. The beef teriyaki in my case was strictly OK, and so were the pieces of California roll. And really tough to mess with the miso soup. Service: 5 / 5 Two very hard working waitresses were running the show quite well. A constant smile on their faces, they were always around checking on everyone very diligently. The small space can be a big plus or minus for the staff when the place is full. Everyone was happy with the efficiency with which the place is being managed. Overall: 3.83 / 5 In essence, a good option for take out or maybe even sit down sushi given the wide variety of options one has at disposal in Quincy (aka the new China / Japan / Viet Town), thanks to their very extensive menu and some really good specials. I will be most tempted to try their makimono specials next time. The different kinds of rolls with the combination of ingredients - how can one not give em another try? I sure will. I know fish that we get here in MA for sushi isn't always the greatest but I came here on a Friday night and it was just really bad. I've eaten here a few times and I've never really had a problem with it til that last time I went. We got a Fuji Sampler for 2. I love salmon and they give you good sized slices of sashimi here. But the fish was definitely really bad quality or really old because they didn't have much flavor to them at all. I felt kinda sick after eating just one. I usually come here for lunch on occasions for a few years and usually satisfied compare to other Japanese/Sushi bars in Quincy. On rare occasions, I will come here for dinner but they're always packed and seats are limited (understandable for a small restaurant). Just to make it clear since there's two Fuji's in Quincy and on the same street... this Fuji restaurant is a small restaurant, located on a corner across the street from Dunkin Donuts/Friendly's in Wollaston. If you're not familiar with Quincy, there's a Fuji in Quincy Center and one in Wollaston. Both are in Quincy, it's just different parts of Quincy. When in doubt, check the address. Sushi are always good. I've never had a bad experience with it and at reasonable price. Best deals during lunch are their bento box (which are fresh and delicious). Sushi during lunch and dinner time are exactly the same. I personally like their volcano rolls. Soups are satisfying also. I've heard bad things with their ordering service. A part of me understands because they're a small restaurant and probably don't have enough staffs working during the busy normal lunch/dinner time. I've never ordered to go or delivery from here but if you have a bad experience with their delivery, perhaps you should check out Fuji 1546 for delivery since they are a bigger restaurant and still owned by the same people. Friendly servers, despite how busy or slow the restaurant is. Food comes out pretty fast, despite the amount of staffs they have on shift during busy time. I don't recommend coming here if you have a large group. It's smaller than B cafe (located in North Quincy) and only about a quart of Fuji 1546 (located in Quincy Center). Street parking only. It is kinda small so u can't bring a large group, but they have take out and all the usual suspects on the menu. I would go with the dinner for two. This is probably overlooked, but they have a sashimi or a teriyaki combo dinner for two that is mad affordable. It comes with soup salad tempura sushi or teriyaki and your choice of ice cream all under 30 bucks. Mad affordable for a couple. Don't judge this book by its cover. The location and atmosphere are very unstuffy, but the food is awesome. The miso soup started as a prediction of the rest of the meal. Perfectly balanced, delicately textured, and very tasty. A good miso soup is usually a good harbinger. We started with beef tataki, but a special preparation. Think slices of rare beef laid on a bed of shredded daikon served with a dipping sauce. Alone, the beef wasn't very beefy, but with the sauce it just jumped in your mouth. Awesome. Then we got a variety of sushi and maki. The spicy tuna is different from most I've had in that they include a little bit of tempura crunchies for added flavor and texture. It definitely appeals to the American palate. We got the reliable standbys of negihama (yellowtail), maguro (tuna), and sake (salmon). All very good examples of their kind. We also had one of the evening's specials: live scallop. A rare treat, this is very fresh and very delicate. Yum. Don't add any soy sauce or wasabi because you'll lose the flavor in it. We weren't done yet, going back for me. We got another appetizer, this time a pepper tuna: Ahi rolled in peppercorn and seared. Unlike most variations of this dish I've had, the grilling didn't overwhelm and neither did the peppers. It was just enough to leave a long pleasant peppery finish. Finally, we had two more special rolls: a spicy tuna, but this time with asparagus and rolled in rice paper; and red-white roll: two kinds of tuna rolled with eel sauce and slices of hot chile pepper. The asparagus in the tuna was great, adding yet another new texture and flavor. And the red-white weren't overpowering in their heat right off the bat, but they kicked in soon after. The wait staff were friendly and attentive and were willing to help us pick out something new and unusual from their menu. We're putting this one on our list of top sushi places to go. read more

The 3-star rating is split between two different visits to this restaurant. The first time I went here was during the afternoon when it wasn't busy. The food was very good. Then I went here for dinner recently, and the food was not good. For example, seaweed salad is a classic side dish. When it's made well, there are few things better. Well, the one I had here was just awful. How awful? It was half-frozen. No joke. You could see the ice crystals in it. And when we complained to the waitress, she told us that if we just let it sit out a bit longer, then it would thaw out. Translation: they freeze and thaw their prepared foods. The problem was that when it did thaw out, the whole thing was a soggy mess. But maybe the rest of it would be great? The maki was blah. It wasn't terrible, but it just all tasted the same. Quite honestly, it's the kind of maki I expect when some other ethnic group decides to make Japanese food. Maki seems so simple, but it has surprising complexity. That means to balance it out so that all the flavors meld well, you need to have a special sense about the ingredients. That sense was lacking. It was kind of like expecting a Lexus and getting a Toyota Corolla. There's nothing wrong with the Corolla; it's just underpowered and generally underwhelming when compared with a Lexus sedan. In short, it's obvious that these are not Japanese chefs creating Japanese food. It's some other Asian chefs assembling Japanese food. There's a huge difference. We ordered 8 different varieties of maki, and they all kind of tasted the same. From the outside, they looked different but inside their vapid taste made them totally forgettable. The one major thing that prevents me from giving the place fewer stars for the overall rating is the prices: the food is reasonably priced. If you want stuff that looks good but might not have the taste to match, and if you have your heart really set on Japanese food but can't get to a killer real Japanese restaurant like Toraya in Arlington, then this place will do. I had lunch with my son at Fuji yesterday, and despite our initial interest in sushi, the cold weather beckoned for hot food. He ordered the rib eye clay pot, which he enjoyed. I ordered the chicken katsu, which came with miso soup and salad. First off, I expected some time to savor the soup and salad, but it was all presented at once. Okay, the chicken katsu was piping hot so I focused on the soup, shared some with my son, and then moved on to entree and salad. It's hard to make a white meat chicken dish juicy, but I've done it in my own kitchen and am sorry to say Fuji could not. We're it not for the sauce, I would have choked on the dry breaded and fried chicken. The portion was plentiful, I'll give them that, but our server never checked in on us regarding our satisfaction with the food or any additional needs. She presented the check pleasantly enough and boxed my leftovers with katsu sauce which I enjoyed more reheated for dinner than I did at lunch. Next time, a sushi boat for sure. read more

Lunch specials are a great deal for their price, but even getting their main entrees is relatively inexpensive. I really recommend soba tempura udon: soup is sweet and salty, noodles are slightly chewy, and the dish comes with A LOT of tempura. You probably won't finish it. I've ordered sushi & sashimi here before. Fish is fresh and the cuts are just the right size. Nothing is too cold or too warm. I would, however, pass on the tuna tataki. Their lunch specials are 8-10 dollars, and if you split a side, a fulfilling lunch for under 15 dollars.
