Being from Indy, I have a plethora of places to get sushi. We come up to visit often and finally got a chance to eat here with the family. The service was on point. The hibachi was comparable to what we normally have and the kids ate it up. We got the rainbow roll, salmon roll, some Nigiri, salads with amazing ginger dressing (seriously, it was Damn good) and the shumai appetizer. The shumai was nothing related to what I would call a pork dumpling but more like fried crab. Kinda weird but it was good and we ate it. Still wondering if they brought us the wrong thing. The sushi was excellent and the prices are what I would expect. The lunch specials are a great deal. The place wasn't busy on a Sunday afternoon which is surprising considering the quality of the food. Maybe the exterior of the building throws people off. However we enjoyed ourselves and I look forward to going back soon read more

Super selection in veggie rolls! MUST try the tempura sweet potato. Love the avocado salad and delish marinated shrooms in the shitake roll. I also tried the avocado roll and the spicy tempura roll. Satisfied with all! My friends dove into the fish rolls and were all happy and they enjoyed the Kani salad but it is spicy. Fresh and worth the wait. They're new, they will get faster. This will be my first time here, I just moved to Midland, MI couple weeks ago. I am a big fan of sushi and my expectations for this place is high due to good reviews and past experiences with other fine Japanese sushi restaurants. The ambience of this restaurant is modern and bright with China art pictures decoration on the wall. I thought this is a japanese restaurant. The sushi bar is good size but I don't think the Chefs are Japanese. I ordered my favorite Dragon Rolls and Vegetable Tempura- the Vegetable Tempura comes with all kinds of vegetables, Fried Sweet Potatoes, Broccoli, Green Bean, Zucchini, and a mushroom. served with tempura sauce and a bowl of rice. It tastes good with enough serving for one person. The dragon rolls, on the other hand, is below average compared to the ones that I had before. It tasted like the one you buy from cheap supermarket. They used cheap quality ingredients such as imitation crab meat and lots of cucumbers. That's so not worth $13.95 plus tax!!! And it is not the way you supposed to make them. Probably the best sushi I've ever had. They have high quality ingredients and their specialty rolls are perfectly balanced in taste and texture. We've been there twice and had an amazing experience both times. This time we got the Midland, New Mexican, and the Caterpillar rolls. All three are to die for! If you love sushi, try them. This is coming from someone who likes Asian food, but a novice on that subject. Although I like Sushi, quite a bit actually, I have never gone somewhere that specializes in it. This small restaurant has a nice peaceful atmosphere. The food itself was quickly prepared and very delicious. I am glad I went with my brother who had been there before, because having never been there (or any place like it) before, I relied on his guiding hand. Being a big man (ok being a fat guy), I am glad I took his advice of ordering a large main roll and a smaller side roll. What was nice, was their inexpensive prices did not make this an issue. Have been there 4 times over the last year. Each time the food was good. No real complaints. Granted some of the best Sushi I've had was in Hawaii and Southern California, but heck, this is Midland. I've been to Japan and have had real Sushi, so I wasn't expecting much when I went here. Then again, I guess for the location, beggars can't be choosers. The portion sizes compared to what you pay is surprisingly good. Wait staff is nice and attentive and they are always coming around to make sure you satisfied with your meal. The decor is really nice but it is more Chinese than Japanese. The taste of the over all food was a little off. Some of it tasted like it was prepared the night before. The rice seemed a bit off to, it didn't have the sweetness then it should normally have. Over all the experience was ok and if I need a Sushi fix quick I will go here if I have to. read more

Something that doesn't make sense: The best sushi I've had is in Midland, MI. It's not on the cost, its Midland...lol. Anyway, the Residence Inn we were at was right down the road from Fuji, so we decided to walk over. There were a few tables seated, but plenty remained open. We were quickly seated by the friendly hostess and brought menus and water. We settled on splitting two rolls and some dumplings. The dumplings came out first. They were quite good--light and not too greasy. Then the sushi came out. My goodness, it was absolutely amazing. Many sushi restaurants like to get fancy and deep fry their rolls, serve them with sauce, and do weird things. Fuji didn't do any of that. They let the fish speak for itself, and boy was it good. Everything tasted fresh, and the rolls were big. Two was enough for the both of us who have big appetites. The service was good as well. Our waitress was efficient and always had a smile on her face. If I'm ever in Midland again, I will make it a point to stop here. Really great stuff. read more

Stopped in to Fuji on a whim. Sat at the Sushi bar and was greeted with the most pleasant service. My server was so sweet, respectful, and kind - she was the perfect mix of leaving you alone and making sure you had everything you needed. I ordered a roll and miso soup. Both were delicious and promptly served. The prices weren't cheap but the quality felt much better than what you'd might expect given its inland strip mall location. I am leaving a review because there wasn't much out there in this place. We usually go to SushiN in Saginaw or Maru but thought we would try this place since we never had been. My two teenager girls order a roll and the fried rice( one vegetable and one chicken). One is vegan so we need to know what was in vegetable fried rice. They went to ask and knowing she was vegan said they make it with butter is they ok as she didn't know what butter was made of. That was the first convern. My other daughter chicken was uneatable. that's a lot to say coming from someone who will eat McDonald's or other fast food. I ordered sashimi, very Leary! Very good sushi. Best in the area by far. Haven't had a bad experience. The sushi is fresh, plated well and is always delicious. Seaweed is crisp and not tough. Flawless execution of sushi. Great presentation and quality. Dined for lunch with my six and nine year old granddaughters and easily satisfied them with gyoza and yakitori. Desserts were a pleasant surprise, although based on the quality of the food should not have been. A pineapple sorbet served in a carved out half pineapple was garnished with toasted coconut, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. We also enjoyed a chocolate mousse pyramid with a chocolate wafer base, which was garnished with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Service was friendly and appropriately paced. Visiting Midland, looked up places to have Japanese food and found this place. The rating was great so we figured we would check it out. Small and quaint, service was great as the staff was very attentive. However, It's bit pricey for mediocre food. I guess anytime someone puts hibachi next to the dish it's automatically going to be expensive. It felt like going to a buffet but they made it look pretty. Chirashi was placed on a plate with few pieces of sashimi, rather than a bowl. Yakisoba was ok and so was their sushi. If this is the only sushi place in midland then most definitely go here but ya...not my thing. read more

Being from Chicago, I have had my fair share of really great sushi, but when I visit my parents in Midland and get a craving for it, I am simply out of luck... or at least I was until now! Went out on a limb to try the sushi here, but was surprised. It was actually pretty good. The spicy tuna could have been a little more spicier, but it was good. I really liked the crunchy panko top. The nigiri had no flavor, which says something about the quality of the fish. The service was very good, and we were well taken care of.
