Hands down my favorite sushi spot Everything is always so fresh, the rolls are actually creative, and the service makes you feel so welcome every time. The quality is consistently amazing and the presentation is chef's kiss. Perfect spot for a casual dinner or cute date night. I literally crave this place weekly !! Highly recommend

8/2025 $26 with tip on a takeout order (approx half cup steamed rice,3 small sides of eel sauce;beef teriyaki (3 bites of beef)

$26 with takeout tip-approx. a half cup of white rice? 3 small sides of eel sauce and literally 3 bites of beef with the beef teriyaki and a few vegetables. Beyond disappointing- and lesson learned that this restaurant's teriyaki items are a la carte. MUST order rice separately or at least more of it in the future if I intend on returning. Grabbed takeout one night last minute to try their beef teriyaki. Based on the photo- that was to show about a half cup of steamed white rice, 3 small sides of eel sauce, and their beef teriyaki a la carte (again, menu does NOT say there's no rice I don't think- so make sure to order more steamed rice if you need it for your teriyaki entree. It's just very pricey. Not sure if I'd recommend takeout here again.

This was one of those rare dining experiences that reminds you why great neighborhood restaurants are so special -- the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression long after you leave. We sat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of being served by the owner himself, which made the entire evening feel incredibly personal and memorable. From the moment we sat down, the energy in the restaurant was lively, warm, and welcoming. It truly felt like a neighborhood gathering place -- the kind of spot where people return again and again because it simply feels good to be there. Watching the owner work behind the sushi bar while chatting with guests was such a treat. He's clearly passionate about his craft and about the people dining in his restaurant. At one point during our conversation, he surprised us with a piece of tuna nigiri from the fish they had just received that day. It was absolute perfection -- buttery, melt-in-your-mouth, beautifully fatty, and packed with incredible flavor. Easily one of the best bites of sushi I've had anywhere. As if that wasn't generous enough, he also treated us to a baked roll that was phenomenal. It was such an unexpected and thoughtful gesture, and it perfectly captured the spirit of the whole place. What made the experience even more special was seeing the owner step out from behind the sushi bar throughout the evening to greet other tables, chat with guests, and check in with people around the restaurant. It created such a genuine family atmosphere -- you could feel how much he cares about the experience every single guest is having. And I have to give a huge shoutout to Diana, who truly elevated the entire evening. Diana is the kind of server who makes a restaurant unforgettable. She was warm, attentive, joyful, and effortlessly on top of everything. She made us feel incredibly welcomed and taken care of from start to finish. What really stood out was watching her move throughout the dining room. It wasn't just our table receiving that level of care -- every single table was getting the same thoughtful attention. You could see guests smiling, chatting with her, and clearly feeling like they were part of something special. She has a natural gift for making everyone feel like family. Between the exceptional food, the owner's generosity and hospitality, Diana's incredible service, and the lively, welcoming atmosphere, everything about this experience was unforgettable. If you're in Newport Beach and don't visit this place, you are truly missing out on one of the area's gems. We will absolutely be back again and again.

fuji yama never misses!!! this visit we got the shrimp bowl in the hot stone and it was amazing!! excellent option if you don't like sushi. the waiter even mixed it and served it up table side. i love the touch of bacon they added which (obviously) made it delicious. my husband tried the premium sushi dinner for the first time also and loved it... i think it's going to become his new go to!! 10/10 on everything!

We had a fantastic experience at Fuji Yama. Quick seating as two walk-ins on a Friday evening. Service was attentive and nice. Food was so good. Will be back!

The service is very attentive. The servers come around often to ask us if everything's good. The place is located inside a nice plaza with ample parking so you don't have to worry finding and paying for parking since it's Newport Beach. The sushi here is decent. I like their sashimi appetizers and sashimi.

We started with the seaweed salad and yakitori, which were both tasty and made great appetizers. As nigiri lovers, we were excited to try all the different selections. My favorites were definitely the toro and yellowtail, and the uni was sweet and delicious! One thing I really appreciated was the fish-to-rice ratio. The nigiri had a small amount of rice, so you could really enjoy the fish without feeling too full too quickly. The fresh rolls were also yummy, with a good amount of fish and nicely balanced seasoning. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for good AYCE sushi at a great price. The staff were also super kind and friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable! What we ordered: -Seaweed Salad -Yakitori -Nigiri (tuna, toro, salmon, salmon belly, sweet shrimp, scallop, yellowtail, albacore, uni, salmon egg) -Pepper Me Crazy (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, top: yellowtail, jalapeno, sauce: mustard, hot sauce) -Salmon In & Out (in: spicy salmon, cucumber, jalapeno, top: salmon, jalapeno, sauce: spicy mustard, hot sauce) -Kaboom (in: spicy tuna, cucumber, jalapenos, top: albacore, jalapenos, green onions, sauce: garlic ponzu, hot sauce) -Tuna & Salmon Temaki (hand rolls)

Instead of serving whole sprouts, the leaves are individually separated and fried until perfectly crisp, creating a unique texture that's unlike any Brussels sprouts I've had elsewhere. The Gyoza was also well executed and a noticeable step above your average dumpling. Since I don't drink alcohol, I really appreciate their mocktail program. Very diverse menu but all is Hawaiian / Asian food. Ordered a few things sitting in the patio on opening at 11:00 a.m. since we didn't have any breakfast coming in from the valley. Macadamia nut crusted lobster roll= C Fish fresh but very weird sauce that I did not like and the macadamia nut on top just doesn't work with this. To each their own but not for me and an easy regret Coconut curry wok'd mussels -B Usually completely run away from anything Curry, and this was kind of ordered by mistake as I did not recall seeing anything curry-wise when I read the description but I must have missed it however it was a pleasant surprise and a very unique dish presented wonderfully. It goes great with a coconut white rice which our server brought. Pork ribs with half =dry rub and half= wet B+ (full rack) The ribs are fall off the bone and both the dry rub and wet with delicious barbecue sauce very tasty, but they came out lukewarm at best so they did not do a good job of reheating or else it would be close to an A. I didn't expect them to prepare a fresh rack of ribs for me at 11:00 a.m. on opening so I knew a reheat was coming but it tasted good. They were just not hot. The purple cabbage slaw is masked as Asian on the menu but its nothing but a heavily doused with vinegar cabbage to the point its mushy. I must say, ribs made a great reheat a couple days later, even after transportation/ long periods in the car. Crispy mahi mahi wok'd with veggies.B- Very creative dish but it was over sweetened to death to the point where it affected the crispiness of the fish pieces. Waay over-sauced, literally swamped in glaze. If it was dryer the fish chunks would be much crispier and it would taste a lot lighter and better. In a nutshell this restaurant is not for the risk adverse and has very unique pairings and sauces and preparation methods which you will either love hate or not be sure as I still am not, but it was good to try once. 3.5 Stars rounding up to four for the good service.
