I'm not really sure why it took me so long to review this place, but I've been coming here pretty steadily since I moved to the northshore. They're lunch specials are perfect for anyone who works along Gause. The prices are excellent, and the sushi is very fresh. I usually get the two-roll lunch special. The service is fast too, which is what I usually need on my work days. read more

Not bad at all. I realize this isn't a glowing endorsement, but I also don't want to discourage anyone looking for decent sushi on Yelp Slidell. Everything is AOK- ambiance, better than you'd expect from a suburban sushi restaurant (though it would be 10x nicer if they could dim those bright lights a little). That said, maybe they are proud of how spiffy the place is? I mean, clean, yep, they've got that down. Gotta love that. Still, I don't love the feeling that I'm eating in a hospital. Service is good. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. Food is on point. Not a ton of veg options, but pretty standard for what you'd expect in a Japanese restaurant. Hooray for veggie gyoza, though! Because I'm paranoid, I thought mine might have had pork, but maybe those mushrooms are extra chewy? I hope so. I've had a restaurant make that mistake before. There is a section of veggie rolls and nothing too exciting there-- the typical avocado, cucumber, oshinko and "AAC" (avo/asparagus/cucumber). I don't blame them for not getting too creative with veggie sushi (is there really that much demand for it here?), but I don't give them extra points either. That said, my boyfriend dug his rolls immensely. Nice selection of sake, including a sparkling variety. Love it! Why three stars, though? The prices are just so dang high. I don't expect to drop 100 bucks on sushi in the suburbs (I mean, I left hungry). If I'm spending that kind of dough (app, two rolls for me, miso soup and three rolls for my guy), I want to be a little more in love with the place, y'know? read more

I should have given negative stars if there was a choice. We ordered a snow crab salad, turned out the "snow crab" was imitation crab. We ordered grilled filet mignon and scallop, turned out the filet mignon was more like a tenderloin, and the dish was way too salty. The soup that came with the salad tasted like "soy sauce + MSG" soup. We told the waiter that the snow crab was fake crab, he couldn't explain it. We decided to let it go but he brought the manager over. The manager started with "what's the problem? " and she continued "EVERYBODY should KNOW snow crab is fake crab!" With an awful attitude she Looked like she was trying to fight. We were speechless and realized that she just didn't care the service. The tempura vegetable was the only dish that is real and taste ok. This dinner really ruined our day. We will never come again!!! read more

This sushi is delicious. We have ordered from here five times now and have enjoyed every roll we have tried. I also like that they are on Door Dash so we don't have to leave the house to pick up on busy nights. The quality of the food is great to go and I'm looking forward to updating this review when we do. read more

Usually order at least three times a month. Tried to call in an order which would have been about a $65 order. I was told that they were extremely busy that they could not make my hibachi order with no broccoli because they were too busy to do that. The lady on the phone said that they had a lot of customers. I also said I am a customer just as well as anyone sitting in your restaurant. This is outrageous absurd and absolutely ludicrous. Went for lunch here today and was so shocked at how great the food actually was. Had the Dancing Dragon Roll and my lunch companion had the Fujiyama Roll and they were the best sushi rolls we have ever tasted. Was so night actually brought 1/2 of it home for later. Picked up dinner from here tonight. Absolutely amazing. The shrimp and scallops were fresh and the steak was cooked perfect. The sushi was also top notch amazing. Lunch menu is a great value. Look for 10% off coupon for lunch or 15% off dinner. We got two lunch chickens, 2 lunch steak, 1 lunch filet, 3 kids sodas and 2 waters. Spent $75 with tip. The chef was great with the kids and the good was delicious. We told them no mushrooms with the veggies and they gave us double rice! VERY LOW QUALITY FOOD. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I work at Stennis in MS so it's a bit of a hike for me to go to Fuji yama in Slidell. I didn't write a review the last 3 times I've had issues with poor experiences, but I've called and complained every time and they refuse to: give me a refund, fix the order. I usually order a soup, 2x california rolls (share with the office) then another specialty roll for myselft (every time I go to a sushi place i get a specialty roll) and an order of edamame. I sat down and ate here 1 time very long ago and their food/customer service was DECENT. Recently, on the weekends, I order food to go. I get back to Stennis MS and the sushi is well below average, their soup is awful, and their edamame is absolutely terrible. Most recently I spoke with a Yeda(? if i remember correctly) and told her that there was definitely no salt on my edamame and she hung up on me. That was a wrap for me. DO NOT EAT HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!!!! UPDATE: The sushi is not just well below average.... it's bad enough for me to never eat there again. It is plain AWFUL. Go to Sogo!!!!! Service here is the finest example of mediocracy. Presentation is nice, but attention to detail has long been forgotten. Ten minute waits between the wait staff checking on you is not acceptable. There was an unexplainable hard object in my sushi roll. The menus were disgusting and covered in old food and falling apart. The sushi is always tasty and fresh. I love the selection they have, and the sushi chef always makes the plates so pretty. The service is always nice and prompt. I've never had the hibachi food, but their hibachi tables are never empty. They even have a fun birthday song when it's your lucky day. The ambiance there gives off a modern feel, which is a nice change from many sushi restaurants. But it would pay off if they would dim the bright lights in the dining room and bar area a little bit. Very nice establishment! We didn't do the hibachi grill but the normal food was awesome! Vegans do make sure you ask for vegan dressing. Non vegans the box lunch was fun and good and a great price. read more

My family and I visited Fuji Yama for nice evening out. We were seated with another family of a different race. The other family was so nice and we enjoyed them. However, they were clearly treated with preferential treatment while we were dining. My family and I never received a refill during our dining experience while the other family did. During the entertainment portion, my family was ignored the entire time, while the other family laughed and attempted to catch fried egg in their mouths. My child questioned why he was ignored, and didn't get a chance to partake, and it broke my heart. While no one was overtly racist, the actions displayed during dinner was disheartening. read more

First off, the actual building is so nice and clean. The atmosphere is very calm and almost a little formal, but still casual. The food is pretty good ! The hibachi looks good and is entertaining (and if it's your birthday, they sing this fun birthday song to you). Sushi is fresh as far as I can tell and also tastes good. It's upsetting enough to not get the food that you ordered and paid for, but it's an entirely different experience at this place. Love getting argued with and lied to. On many of our visits to the area, we try and frequent as many of the restaurants as we can. This by far is the best Japanese restaurant in the area. They have friendly service, good quality sushi, generous portions and great presentation. The atmosphere is welcoming as well. It's a nice surprise. Being from San Francisco, we have high standards for artisanal foods. And given the area, this is definitely a highly recommended restaurant. read more

I came to pick up take out. While I waited I sat at the bar and had a glass of red wine which was still on happy hour so only 3.00. But it kinda tasted like a 3.00 glass of wine. No other options. The atmosphere is really nice and the smell incredible! The hibachis were going and full of people while I was here so they must be good. Will try on another visit! Surprised that the prices were not so bad but average. Expected worse due to the expensive location! I just wish that had a wine selection....ok I'll move on from the wine. Report back after I taste the the food. I had two specialty rolls and two regular rolls. All were delicious but I enjoyed one of the specialty rolls much more then the others just my taste not that it was bad. Will definitely come back here. Miso soup good too. read more

This is our 2nd time coming this month. The first time was not a good experience. Our sushi took a very long time to get to us. I received my sushi and had finished eating it before my husband got his. Today was better with the wait time but not by much. He ordered the mother roll which he said was very good. I ordered a hibachi lunch with steaks and scallops. My rice and vegetables were nice and hot, however the steak and scallops was super cold. I told the server and he took my plate to fix it. I decided at this time to go to the bathroom and watched him put my whole plate in the microwave. Funny enough the steak and scallops were luke warm. They do lunch from open to 3pm. No where does it say hibachi closes before then, party of 2 showed up at 2:30pm and they wouldn't sit us for hibachi. I tried to call and they answered, sat the phone down, and then left it off the hook. It was busy when I tried to call back. read more

Had hibachi for two last night. Filet was prepared very nicely rare as we requested. Chicken was pretty tasty too if a little dry. But the shrimp which were placed on the grill at the same time as the chicken and remained on the grill for another minute or two were hard as rocks. Meal could have been better.
