But the shrimp which were placed on the grill at the same time as the chicken and remained on the grill for another minute or two were hard as rocks. Meal could have been better. Food is 100 percent fantastic every time! Love the sushi. The chefs really know what they're doing. But the service is atrocious. Young rude girls run the front of house and they will have no shame in making you wait for your drinks, food, sauces, anything, all while giving you dirty looks and talking in another language about you in front of you. Hopefully management tightens up and gives the FOH an attitude adjustment. The food is the only thing here making it worth the visit. read more

This is the first bad review I've written but I just had to say something. Perhaps the worst sushi restaurant I've ever eaten in, and I eat sushi often. Service today was terrible. I was seated at a table without silverware but with a dirty washrag on it. It was 10 minutes before waitress took the order, and it was very quiet. Had to steal napkin and silverware/sticks from table next door after salad was served. Lunch specials (3 rolls, miso soup and salad) consisted of puréed fish in sauce, no solid pieces in the roll. Looked like repurposed scraps or leftovers. Tempura items were soaked in oil, very heavy breading. Waitress was clueless, even other tables were waiting ridiculous times. Table next to me asked for a manager, asked her if it was usual to wait 15 minutes to have water glasses placed. Instead of apologizing she made excuses for the waitress, said she had other tables (me and one other). Other waitstaff had to do her job for her, and when they did she seemed to act as if that was normal, and that they could just continue to do so. Finally waited 15 minutes for her to drop the check. Subpar food, poor service and management. Restaurant seems to be clean, and it was not expensive therefore not just one star. Go somewhere else. read more

Business was kind of slow for a Saturday night. We came around 9:30pm and ordered the hibachi dinner of the chicken (dry) and shrimp (flavorful) with fried rice, unagi roll, and the shrimp tempura roll. It also came with a side salad and soup. My boyfriend and I sat at the sushi bar on a Sunday evening. Their menu is quite large with a nice selection of Japanese hot/kitchen items, like katsu don and seafood soup. My seafood soup was plenty and hot, but I still want to try the katsu. The Dragon Roll was presented beautifully and we ate all of it. We ordered chicken teriyaki to go because we loved everything so much, but too full to eat anymore. The atmosphere is clean and slightly posh. Fuji Yama was very pleasing for the sushi snob (me), so I'm sure we will be back again. read more

When Fuji Yama 1st opened their menu was fantastic. The sushi rolls were creative, appetizing, and stunning. But then, little by little, the sushi menu changed. I suppose it must change to reflect the current market but it's very disappointing. We aren't sushi snobs but we do appreciate creativity and like "Japanese" cuisine. All but 2 special rolls now on the menu have something fried, spicy, or contain cream cheese. Japanese sushi rolls with cream cheese?! But, I must say this, Fuji Yama is the best in Slidell. So we will continue to patronize unless we're on our way to New Orleans. read more

The last couple of times I've eaten here the service has been terrible. Last night took the cake. After being seated at a dirty table with left over food and sticky spots from spilled soda, the man who sat us watched me attempt to clean our table myself with the one napkin we were given, and he never offered to wipe it down or sit us at a clean table. Gross. Our waitress was so rude. Rolling her eyes every time she walked away from the table and every time she brought us something she dropped it down in the middle of the table on top of our plates and everything else that was on the table. For example, we asked for more napkins ( to clean our table ). After asking twice our napkins were slapped down on the table. We later asked for yum yum. 3 of the 4 of us asked for yum yum and we received one tray which was over flowing and spilling. That spilling tray of yum yum was sat on top of our napkins... we all shared one yum yum because our waitress was so rude and we were obviously inconveniencing her with our existence. After many eye rolls later our check books were slapped on the table without a thanks, have a good night, or any word. And I never received the yum yum I asked for to go. We don't believe in not tipping so she till made about $15 off of a 4 person table. It's just so irritating when someone who clearly hates their job chooses to work in the service industry. Either fake a smile and don't be rude to people or find a different career path. read more

We stopped in Slidell overnight on our way back from our Florida mini-vacation and were hoping for something fresh and light as we'd gained about 9,000 between the three of us. The place looked promising enough and we were excited to have found a sushi place in the area. The service was prompt and efficient. We were seated quickly and our orders taken in a more-than-reasonable amount of time. The ambiance was nice and the place was busy. Our expectations were at peak. With our one year old in tow, I ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner bento to share, my husband and father in law ordered the spicy sushi combo. Our little one was hangry so, as soon as our gyoza hit the table, it was game on. The gyoza was tasty and kept our toddler happy until the main courses were served. Everything in general was... just okay. Everything just barely hit the mark for me... not horrible but just shy of good. I grew a little tired of the typical New Orleans fare this weekend and craved something different. We found Fujiyama coming back from a swamp tour. Excellent service, first of all. We were checked on several times. The food was really good, not the best hibachi I've had, but really good and the chef kept my kids entertained and free from arguing which is really what it's all about. read more

I lived in Japan for many years and the quality was almost as good as the real thing. Best in Slidell hands down. Sushi, hibachi, customer service, value and quality can't be beat. I highly recommend giving it a try. Tiger roll is great and although I'm not a fan of fried rolls, the the BMW roll is awesome. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, I have traveled a lot, NY, Chicago, SF, Dallas, Tampa and many other places. Fuji Yama holds its own with the best but at a much more reasonable price. Great fun on your birthday too, I would suggest bringing someone there to celebrate their birthday, telling the staff secretly about it and let them have fun with your guest. The food is very flavorful. We enjoy the Lover's Special which is Hibachi filet mignon, shrimp, chicken, and scallops with rice & veggies. It comes with a garden salad & a soup. Both tasted fantastic. Everything is so tender and tasty. The scallops were melt in your mouth tender. The filet was prepared just right. My wife likes medium rare & I like medium, and that's what we each got. The chef was very good on the hibachi not only with his cooking skills, but also with a great show & funny jokes. The quality is top shelf. The sauces (ginger & yum yum) are perfect, not watery. We also get the spicy crab roll for an appetizer. The roll was well prepared. Great food, HORRIBLE server. I went in with my friend to get a sushi roll & decided to try their clear soup. As soon as she seen that was all we were ordering that's when we got the first eye roll. RIGHT IN OUR FACE STILL AT THE TABLE. I didn't care for the clear soup so I set it to the edge of the table, completely full. I asked to try the ginger dressing because I wanted to get a salad but sometimes I don't care for some places ginger dressing. Second eye roll. Our server never came to check on us once & we waited for her to bring the bill for a while. When she brought the bill she still had the clear soup on it, so I asked if she could please take it off as I didn't have any but a spoonful. It was still to the rim with soup. She rolled her eyes again BUT WITH A HUFF this time right in our faces. I was in shock. I have never had such an awful experience at any restaurant in my life!
