The food was solid, but they have so many up charges it will make your head spin. $6 to upgrade to fried rice is a lot. My biggest issues is food safety. Our grill cook moved around the veggies. Added raw chicken to the grill and immediately picked up the veggies and served us. Never wiping off the spatula or heating it up. This happened several times. Tossing the clearly still raw chicken then serving someone their steak. Im sure things were hot enough to likely be fine. But it really did put me off my meal. I only ate a few bites and took the rest home to cook more tomorrow. read more

I never yelp but I ordered takeout from this location and was very disappointed. I've been going to Fujis since it was called shojis and this is the worst food I've over had. Salad greens were rotten, noodles were barely cooked, steak looked like it had been overcooked in a microwave, it had no sear. I love the mustard sauce and order extra but all the sauces were missing. I usually dine in at the Sherwood location and am always happy. I only say all of this because I have eaten at this restaurant for 30 years and know what to expect. I gave 4 stars because this was my first visit and I did not try their sushi yet. Large screen TV showed a World Cup soccer game and volume was kept tastefully low. When it comes to teppanyaki restaurants, my wife is going to have an opinion about them. A strong one. I have to be selective in my choice of location, because its the little things (sauces in particular) that can make or break the experience. Fortunately, I've been to Fuji's many times over the years, so I was fairly confident that last night's outing was going to be a success. I was right! Last night's visit to Fuji's went pretty smooth overall, although there appeared to be only one hostess/server taking orders and making drinks, amongst all tables, so it took her a little while to get us started. Not her fault, but it did leave us sitting for about 15 minutes total, before drinks and meals were ordered. Once things got rolling, our entire party was served in what seemed like record time, without anything being undercooked or skimped on. For the most part, your experience at any Japanese steakhouse is going to be the same: sit down, order drinks and grill selections, wait for what seems like an excessive amount of time before the chef shows up, and wait (im)patiently while your meal is assembled before your eyes, accompanied by displays of pyrotechnics, airborne shelled embyros, and cutlery acrobatics. Once you've seen it, the novelty wears off a bit. Even so, you don't come for the show (hopefully), you come for the food, and here's where Fuji's shines. My wife and I split the Shoji' Special for 2, consisting of steak, chicken and prawns, plus a couple bowls of miso soup, and throwing on an order of gyoza to split amongst the family. The two boys' servings, having ordered chicken and steak, respectively, from the junior menu, were practically the same size as our adult portions! Portion sizes were...honestly a bit overwhelming. No one in our group finished their plate (myself included, which is rare), meaning we have four boxes of leftovers to be consumed for lunch (and more) today! I mentioned the sauces earlier, which are always the sticking point for my wife at any teppanyaki place. Fuji's uses a ginger soy and a spicy mustard sauce, both of which are fantastic, and my wife was planning on ordering some of the latter to take home, but we forgot in our effort to herd our cats...er, kids, out of the restaurant and back to the car. Love love love this place. I'm picky about Japanese food as lived there for some time. I started with some different sushi rolls, all were fresh and delicious. Went in with my guy and he now orders the chef special every time, he loves it that much. I go between different sushi, and the veggie tempura is on par! We also did the grill for my mothers birthday and it was all good to me but my guy wasn't a fan of it as much. The different dipping sauces help. It is our go to spot for sushi! read more

Have been here a few times now and have been pleasantly surprised at the happy hour pricing Monday-Thursday on Sushi that makes it way affordable. There are entire rolls that are right around the $5-$8 mark & much cheaper than what I'm used to but just as delicious. Another thing that stood out to me here was how friendly the staff was! I used to love getting sushi from this place, but yesterday's food was awful. I ordered salmon sashimi and a TNT roll and both did not taste like the fish was fresh. When sushi is fresh, it does not taste "fishy" and these both tasted gross and old. The salmon itself seemed to be off in color and I should have said something. Super disappointed this place has gone down hill. Guess you can't get decent food anywhere now after the pandemic. Most restaurants do not have the same quality of food that they used to and Fuji's is now also one of those places. They charge way too much for food that is not even close to mediocre. Our 20% gratuity was not calculated correctly. They charged us $19 when it should have been $14 per the price of our bill. Also, customer service has gone down hill and when prices continue to increase (Now $60 for the special for 2), it's hard to justify coming back. We had to remove our own plates and ask for things multiple times. When our group got our bills, they were all in correct and had to be fixed. When my husband and arrived and before we even had a chance to order, we were asked to provide a review. So here it goes. I'm staring off letting everyone know I HATE PICKLED GINGER! We were interrupted 2 times before we even had a chance to even look over the sushi menu and specials if we were ready to order. (If my nose is still mulling over the sushi menu...No...I'm not ready to order). As soon as we ordered all sushi menus left the table. Better get everything you want the first round folks because you aren't going to get a second look at the menu. We ordered tempura, Goya, California Roll, Shrimp Trio Roll, Vegas Roll and Ebi. Goya and Tempura came first. After all the sushi rolls and when the Ebi was being delivered we are told that the Ebi is Marinated in ginger water to keep it fresher. It was obvious the Shrimp used on the Trio Roll was marinated in ginger too. How old is the shrimp if an establishment feels the need to marinate it in ginger water to keep it fresh? Shouldn't that detail be disclosed on the menu or by your wait staff when one is ordering? It surely shouldn't be disclosed when the last item saturated and reeking of ginger is being set down at the table. Wait staff was attentive..overly so. We hardly picked up the last item off the plate before they were swooping in to clear the table. Both my husband and I had just gotten off work and we shower regularly, no one was sitting at the table near us. I still don't understand the rush to get us out of the place. At one point we were the only couple! Our dinner came to almost $100 and over 1/3 of it was ruined because it was saturated/marinated in damn ginger. Disgusting! read more

I've waited to write this review for some time. We had a table of 4 adults and 1 toddler. The toddler did nor eat or drink but apparently put us at the auto gratuity point. Which auto gratuity is fine however we didn't realize there was an auto gratuity and tipped 20% on top of the 20% auto gratuity. The service was good but not 40% good. Didn't realize until I got home and have tried to contact the restaurant several times but have been unsuccessful. They really should have not counted a toddler that they didn't serve but also should have told us there was an auto gratuity. read more

We just ordered take out today. We ordered the choo choo roll, philly roll, rainbow roll, albacore nigiri, and seaweed salad. The fish was old and smelled EXTREMELY fishy. I ate one albacore nigiri and had to spit the other out in the trash. I've never done that with sushi before but this tasted so bad! The choo choo was the only edible roll since it's partially cooked and covered in sauce to mask the fish flavor. We threw the rest of the sushi in the trash. I'm so disappointed. We wanted to try a new spot outside our regular place (Oishi Sushi) and I don't think I would give this place another chance. read more

So the food was decent but that's about where it ended as far as anything quality. I went in this afternoon to have lunch and order a couple rolls at the main bar area east Vancouver location-where they make the rolls and a young man named Dan was making the sushi rolls. He was nice but I did ask for a water that I never got and he must've asked me 3 times in 3 different ways for my order, and I obviously was not ready to order yet. As I was eating the two rolls that I ordered, he asked me if I would like to a special roll that they were launching today and I was the first customer to try it! Woohoo exciting!, well, he made it sound like it was free to try out and he made a special deal about it too me and I guess it was just an upsell ploy- not cool. Seems I was wrong and he was doing more of a bait and switch likely to get me to order more because I was the only patron in the restaurant and they were very dead. I've been here a couple of times for hibachi, but I will not be coming back. Ownership/management needs to do something about one of your employees offering me a sushi roll or at least the way he worded it was that he wanted to make it, so I could try it out. I guess I should've asked if he was charging me, but I didn't think about it because he said try it. Very odd situation. Kinda thought he was being nice- shouldve known better and confirmed it was no charge. He said next time I come back in he will give me a free roll, but honestly it's not worth it. At this point, please train your workers to not tell people they will make them a sushi roll to try out. Or they tell the customer they will be charged for it before they ring it up. Also, I did voice my displeasure after he handed me the bill and I told him hey man you made it sound like you were letting me try your new sushi roll out and then I'm the first customer to try it so I didn't think you were going to charge me for it. Came here for lunch with my fiancé today ( 12.20.17 ) We both ordered the Habachi Combo with steak, shrimp ($18 each) & fried rice ($2 add) as well as the Trinity roll. The cook stood around watching tv and came over swiftly to make our meal as another couple sat down. He laid down the egg & rice mix for the fried rice then literally left the grill for minutes on end while the egg and rice burned - so he could grab the other couples ingredients. Ive never seen someone just totally not care like that as a cook - he burned almost everything and didn't Salt or pepper anything. I had requested medium well steak which came the fine temperature but was swimming in blood on my plate. It tasted like a $4 cut at Safeway, the taste of the steak was worse than any diner steak and egg meal. Came with 3 pieces of burn seared shrimp. The sushi had that refrigerator taste - you know the one you taste when you leave food in the fridge to long? This is that meal that on principal and disappointment - you'll think about all week and the amount of unnecessary money you wasted. $20 a plate for that, you're kidding me right? Ordered fried rice with chicken, fried oysters and soda Was interested in sushi but nothing looked appetizing not to mention prices were double what we are used to paying in town. We paid $33 dollars for hot rice, a little mediocre chicken and Luke warm oysters. Waitress was decent at refilling soda. Felt sorry for cook..waitress Told us we Had to wait for the cook who was just beginning a full table of orders next to us. Oysters had descent flavor, but really we paid thirty bucks for hot rice. Rip off. Looking around there is still Christmas decorations up and it would appear the staff is unhappy. I can see why. Skimpy portions..except rice. Does the owner care about the staffing here? I'm going to put it out there- thank God there's two Fuji's 'cause if I had to go to Sherwood anytime I wanted good sushi...I would not be happy. Anyway, this one is about half the size of the Sherwood one but I've rarely had to wait. They have a few tables and the sushi bar if you don't want the grill and plenty of places at their grills. The grill itself is your standard fare and the cooks are always entertaining. You get plenty of food as well, but it's definitely pricier than the sushi. Frankly, my review of the grill isn't much because I go here for the sushi. First off, Monday-Thursday is 25% their regular sushi. So far I haven't found a place with a better Philly Roll! And I would recommend taking advantage of their special rolls - may I suggest the Godzilla roll (unagi, cream cheese with sweet sauce, deep fried)? Hands down the best sushi roll I've ever had in my life. As for selection, it's a decent one split between nigiri and maki. They also have a lovely miso soup, pot stickers and tempura for side dishes or appetizers. The service isn't incredible but I've never had a bad waiter/waitress so no complaints on that front! read more
