Came here after work one night since not too many spots stay open late. Small spot with parking the back so that was nice. Place had 2 other parties there that seemed like regulars Decided to go with some traditional gyoza and tonkatsu ramen. Prices average for sure. The waitress was nice and helpful but seemed busy since she was the only one there. The gyoza was just ok a firm 3/5. I don't know how to explain it but the meat seemed overly minced and over saturated with ginger. The ramen was ok as well. Broth was seasoned well but oddly came out a little hotter than luke warm. I honestly think for it being open late and the continent parking it was ok. Better than other spots? Not really. read more

Fukurō Rāmen is a little bit of Japan in Hollywood Thai Town. Fukurō means owl in Japanese so it keeps fairly late hours closing at 11:30pm Monday through Sunday. The semi dark interior is serene painted in rich spring green as well as a forest mural on the entire west wall. Perfect place for owls to inhabit. Lot of fun, happy Tōkyō Pop music of late 70's and 80's to lighten the mood with cute girl sounds. Ordered the Combo #1: $25 including the Shrimp Miso Rāmen 1) Èbi Miso Rāmen: Grilled Shrimp, Ki Kuragè/cloud ear mushroom, slice of Naruto Maki/fish terrine, green onion, wedge of lemon to add a citrus tone & gastrique, cabbage which wasn't in my Shrimp Rāmen. The thicker noodles are al dente but also have a more plush feel. The Red tinged broth seems to have a Thai flavour as though it may be infused with red curry, lemon grass, or Kaffir lime. I was expecting more Japanese red Miso & chile pepper purée. But nonetheless it made for an interesting variation to the Rāmen universe. 2) 3 Gyōza (ghee yoh zah) are over fried to an almost burnt, dark brown on one side. The overly soft other side just gets steamed from the final lid on cooking. The filling tastes fine with a good dose of garlic, but the texture is very mushy & overly wet producing an insipid mouth feel. Little dish of Ponzu Shōyu/soy sauce & vinegar citrus dipping sauce on the side. This over frying of the Gyōza, unfortunately, lessens it's appeal. 3) Small Pork Fried Rice: Japanese short grain rice is pleasantly sticky sautéed with bits of roasted Chāshū pork belly that usually accompanies standard Rāmen bowls. Scattering of chopped green onions & Beni Shōga/red pickled ginger. Nicely done and satisfying. 1-3a: Wakayama Brewery Yuzu Ale: Light IPA flavoured with a touch of Yuzu/Japanese citrus & refreshing bitter hops. Touch dry, yeasty, thirst quenching, good palate cleanser to the heavy broth. Since I have not sampled other Fukurō Rāmen, I can't say all the Rāmen are Thai influenced, but the Shrimp Rāmen seems so which to me adds interest to living in Los Ángeles which is so diverse in all its multicultural richness. 4- stars read more

Although this is a small restaurant, the food & the crowd inside speak volumes! . I couldn't even take a picture before I started eating it. I had the chicken ramen & my fiance had the pork ramen + chicken teriyaki combo -- everything was delicious! My fiance used to live in Japan, and he says this ramen was very reminiscent of his time there, down to the "fixings" they provided (chili flakes, garlic paste, etc) with the dishes. I finally had a chance to try this popular Ramen spot in Hollywood. Fukurou Ramen has Anime on their TV, and the music being played is Japanese Pop. The décor of this spot is nice and relaxing, and the service was friendly and helpful. Tonkotsu Ramen broth has some good flavor but the chicken protein is not the most appetizing or tasty. It is cut into thin little bits and it's quite dry. There were lots of bites that I couldn't eat due to gristle. I should have gone with the Pork Chashu. The same was true with the Chicken Teriyaki and Rice. I did enjoy the Pork Gyoza. Next time, I will avoid the chicken and stick with the Pork. read more

An absolute hidden gem of Los Feliz! Went in super late at night craving some Tonkotsu with a friend and we split Combo 2. $20 gets you a full bowl of ramen, a massive bowl of fried rice, and a couple pieces of homemade gyoza with one of the most beautiful lacy bottoms. Everything was delicious and the Chashu was super fatty and well cooked. They offer free mochi if you tag them on Instagram, but we were truly excite for the $4.75 Yuzu Cheesecake, which absolutely blew us out of the water. Super genuine Japanese service!! The staff that waited on us could have stepped right out of a Japanese noodle house, she could not have had more authentic mannerisms and that really adds to the ambience (I've been to Japan probably more than 30 times). Has gluten free noodle option (rice noodles) and the spicy tonkotsu is oilier than usual but this adds body and richness. The pork is sliced very thin, recommend to get the extra meat. Hate to leave this review, but this was one of the worst tonkatsu ramen I've had in LA. I ordered the standard tonkatsu via Grubhub and when received, it was packaged very well. No leakage. Once I opened up the ingredients with the noodles, I realized the noodles were semi-cooked. It had the texture of instant ramen that was boiled for two minutes. Ignoring this, I continued to mix in the rest of the ingredients and upon my first bite, I was immediately disappointed. The broth did not taste like tonkatsu, the egg was like a normal boiled egg, and the other ingredients were subpar. I'd still be open to trying something else like the gyoza but it's a strong no when it comes to the ramen. read more

Came here after work cuz I saw the reviews about the heart attack ramen and wanted to try it. To be honest, it was kinda disgusting. The flavor of the soup and the pork had an incredibly gamely aftertaste that is not characteristic of chashu. I've made chashu before and maybe they didn't boil it enough to get rid of all the impurities but the taste was straight up gross. Maybe they had a bad batch that day. The three stars are for the okra appetizer tho! I'd definitely come back again, just for the okra! read more

Fukurou has a great menu. I always order the fried rice (yes, I know this is a ramen place), so my review is based on that dish alone. But more than the menu, the staff is very friendly. Sometimes late night random searches for places to eat works out perfectly. A group of us left Griffith Park after 9:30 pm and we couldn't decide where to eat dinner since it was late and many of our regular spots were closed. So I searched Yelp and saw Fukurou was open until 11:30, had high ratings and good reviews. We were also all cold from being up at the Conservatory, so hot ramen sounded perfect. We were welcomed cheerfully by the owners and seated immediately. We ordered some drinks and appetizers to start and it all came out quickly. The spicy garlic edamame is really spicy, but delicious. Spicy is in the name, I know, but most of the time it's only slightly spicy at places. Here they mean it. We also got the veggie gyoza, since we had 3 vegetarians/vegans with us, but it was as tasty as any pork gyoza I've ever had. For the main course we got a couple tonkatsu ramen combos and a couple vegetarian ramen combos. My daughter is vegan and they were able to make her ramen vegan using rice noodles. The fried rice as part of the combo was a great meal by itself, but we were looking forward to the ramen. The pork in the tonkatsu ramen was some of the best we've tasted. Thin tender slices with a good amount of fat packed with so much flavor. My son made his ramen spicy and tasted like a whole different dish even though it was the same as mine. The noodles were perfectly cooked and in good supply as I was able to have one last bite of noodles with my remaining soup. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise and made it on my list of places to eat when on that side of LA. We'll be back for sure. read more

The food here is great! Big portions at affordable prices. I love to dine at Fukurou Ramen especially after a long day or to treat myself. Sometimes they even have nice deals like free mochi ice cream. They had a new menu item last time I visited: Yakitori chicken skewers, that were soooo good! Nice service and calm vibes. Love how small and homey it feels. I got home and drank the broth in under 5 minutes it was SO GOOD. Stopped by after a trip to Universal Studios and it was cold outside so we wanted a warm bowl of noodle soup. Things to note: No public restrooms (this was a little inconvenient to us as my brother needed to use it) There was a promotion for 2 for $22 pork ramen so 2 of us got that and the other got the combo B for $18.75. Both items were good value. Although the 2 for $22 promo you don't get all the fixin's, can't complain about that... especially for LA prices! Combo B came with pork fried rice and 3 pieces of gyoza. I am a fan of the gyozas! They are fried to perfection. The ramen was decent - not the best i've ever had but it's a solid bowl, very home-y tasting. The broth wasn't very thick but it was flavorful. I wish there was a spicy miso option but I did add in the chili flakes that were brought out to us. The restaurant was small and had a few tables. Such a cute little place. We have been craving ramen since being in and out of the Kaiser nearby and this place was conveniently located half a mile away! My mom ordered just the ramen and I ordered the combo ramen that came with a little bowl of teriyaki chicken which was so yummy! It also came with gyoza. Fukurou is fire! One of my fav ramen spots for cheap but flavorful ramen. I usually get the 2 for $22 ramen or the Pork ramen and Pork fried rice combo, which is what I got this time and was not disappointed. For around $20 you get a big thing of pork fried rice with 3 piece gyoza AND a bowl of ramen with egg and toppings. Such a good deal and I love the bold tonkotsu ramen broth flavor, and the pork fried rice has plenty chunks of tender pork. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't already! read more

It was a cold Thursday night as we came out of the AMC Burbank 16 after seeing the brilliant "Wakanda Forever" nothing could soothe our cold sad hearts as a hot bowl of ramen. The problem? Every ramen spot close to that theater was closed at 9. This spot was 5 miles away and we're so glad we found it. Fukurou Ramen welcomed us with some of the best and warmest service ever. Our waitress was so kind and gave us our time to order, we were the last customers of the night and I could never get a hint that she was annoyed or wanted us to hurry. The ramen itself was DELICIOUS in every sense of the word. Not to mention the spot is cozy and relaxing as hell...I love the atmosphere, especially with the cold outside. It was like a movie. Came here with a friend for a late night ramen grind. First impression was that it's a bit dingy and random for being the new kid on the block. I noticed some odd "aromas" too as we walked in. Cause honestly, where can you eat ramen in LA after 10pm that isn't Little Tokyo? We each got Tonkatsu ramen, and I got the combo which included pork fried rice and pork gyoza. And with out check in, we got free spicy garlic edamame. So there was a lot of food. Sadly, almost everything either lacked something that really made it great, or had a flavor that just didn't seem like it belonged. So sad to say it, but I'm giving them 3 Stars for the food. On the plus side, the staff was amazing...friendly, knowledgeable, responsive to our every need. Also, late night ramen. So if it's late and you're close, you do get ramen. Can't say I'd be back.
