So you should get the pulled pork sandwich, sliced, mixed, with a side of chow chow. The pork is self explanatory. The chow chow is their award-winning vinaigrette-based coleslaw that has a bit of heat to it. The baked beans are also worth trying. This is their downtown, Southside location. I phoned my order in early to pick up that afternoon. I was told I could get my food at 4 o'clock. When I arrived there was a very long line and quite a wait just to get to the register. When I finally got to the register, nobody could find my ticket and they insinuated that I hadn't called in an order. I had quite a long discussion on the phone with the person that took the order because they had to find out when a whole chicken would be ready (which was 4pm). They found the person that took my order and she remembered talking to me, but nobody ever apologized for losing my order. When I first came in they were trying to find another lost phone order. This is ridiculous, get it together. I spelled my name three times for that person who was supposed to be writing the ticket...yet no ticket...last time I order by phone here. Looked like the real deal....but I have to squeal... This place is an authentic roadside BBQ joint. It's full of pictures of celebrity's etc that have enjoyed the q here. I went on Friday at noon and waited in anticipation in a short line. I ordered a two meat plate with Ribs and Pork and a soft drink. Sad to say but both meats were under cooked. The pork was a mixed bag. The outside crust and meat just below it was tasty and had a nice smoke flavor. However the meat from the inside was rubbery and tuff. It simply hadn't been cooked long enough. The ribs were also tasty and had a nice smoke flavor but were undercooked. I'd say they were in at a high temp for too short a time. The secret of pork BBQ is low and slow. The collagen simply hadn't broken down and the meat was still tuff and ripped rather than breaking apart when you tried to take it off the bone. The sides were ok. I had beans and Mac n cheese. Both were cafeteria grade. However, I don't eat q for the sides. Condiments- everything but BBQ sauce on the tables? In an eat with your hands BBQ joint you really should have napkins on the tables! I'm not sure if I got this place on a bad day, if the cook forgot to start the smoker last night, or if they are just slipping? I'll try it again to make sure this wasn't an isolated mediocre day. I've been to Full Moon a few times- and was happy every time! Their sauce is excellent. I've had the sliced pork, pork links, the chicken, and the ribs- and everything was great. You always get large portions and I really like the chow chow that comes with everything. The last time I went I had a slice of coconut pie, and that was very good too. In a land swelling with good BBQ joints, it's hard to choose a favorite, but Full Moon is a good choice for anyone throwing a big party who needs a few pounds of old-fashioned smoked Southern meat. Prices are reasonable and it's easy to find. Get within a mile and smell your way there. read more

I enjoyed the turkey it was quite flavorful. I was disappointed they did not serve brisket. I would not invite them to one of the top 10 barbecue places in the US as two entities have in the past two years. The baked beans had a very nice flavor but we're a bit sweet for my taste. read more

I've eaten Full Moons BBQ many times over the years being from Birmingham myself, But I am sad to say my last 3 visits have been far less than expected. Birmingham and Alabama as a whole have some fantastic BBQ restaurants with a rich history, however, I honestly can "no longer" count Full Moon as one of them. The BBQ, whether pulled or chopped were both tough and slightly dried out. The BBQ chicken now was very good, but as another commenter stated the sides of mac and cheese, and baked beans were just sub par at best. Think "school lunch room" quality and you'll have a good idea. The dessert I had, I saw removed straight out of a box from some restaurant supplier of goodies, and it was delicious, however, that just compliments the supplier. The prices have increased twice since my two previous visits, and I'm sorry but the food is just way to expensive compared to several other better quality BBQ restaurants in Birmingham. You would think that a Dresmland up the street would make the closest BBQ restaurant up it's game. I have been here for my final tume. It's too expensive to drive thru and get home with the wrong thing. The last time I was here my bbq potato was horrible. The potato tasted like it was at least s day old. i took my mom to full moon for the her time. i gave her rave reviews on it and when we got home her ribs and chicken were both burnt. i called to complain and they said no refund the only thing they could do is replace it and give cookies or a carrot cake. we live 20-25 mins away. aint nobody driving all the way back ip there. i've never been to this location and i will never go again. do not eat at full moon on the southside go to jim n nick's or saws bbq!!! read more

Since this is the original location & they have not changed it much over the years I can overlook the outdated features. I cannot over look the rudeness of the people working the pull up window, nor can I overlook the issue of incorrect orders. Both times I have ordered the EXACT SAME THING I ALWAYS order from Full Moon a chicken salad white meat only with ranch & bbq sauce with extra ranch. Other locations have never gotten it wrong but for some reason this location cannot get it together. The other day I was given the wrong dressings, today I was given greasy nasty dark meat with huge chunks of the skin still attached plus bones were still in it. Placed an order here for pick up a little after 5pm. I told the lady who took the order that we'd be there in 15 mins or so. However we got stuck in some bad traffic and I had no idea the place closed at 5:30pm. You would think she would've warned me that they were closing soon, but nothing was mentioned. We got there a little after 5:30, the front door locked. I look inside and the lady who took my order is behind the counter, while her family is sitting in the restaurant waiting for her. I knock on the door and she completely ignored me while her kids sneered at me. I tried calling and she completely ignored the phone. Finally her husband or boyfriend signals that they are closed. I didn't get there in time, so be it. But at least have the decency to come to the door and tell me vs being rude and ignoring me. And next time tell people you are closing soon, if an order comes in close to quitting time! read more

Full Moon has the best BarBQue at a good price , but it is sure aggravating when you sit in line for 30 minutes on the 4th of July, then get home and have no bread for your family meal. We actually ate at the location on 280. I enjoy their BBQ sauce, but the chicken is flat out gross. My wife and I thought the sides all tasted frozen. Jim N Nicks sides are much better and fresh. Will not go back to the 280 location. ...my kids enjoyed their cookies read more

The absolute worst "bbq" I've ever had. My chicken was BAKED, not smoked! Their "chow chow" is the most digusting thing I've ever put in my mouth and their mac and cheese is just noodles and Velveet - no REAL cheese was harmed in the making of it. My husband ordered brisket and it was charred beyond all recognition. We wil certainly not be going there again. read more
