    Big ass pretzel
    Maria Y.

Our waitress was excellent, super friendly, checked up on us a good amount. English pub themed. Pretzel was FABULOUS! It looked like it could have been dense and heavy-complete opposite! Light snd crispy, that crispiness surprised me, but was wonderful on the palate. I don't order brisket a lot, but on a sandwich l was expecting the meat to be more shredded, but it wasn't. It was more of a fork and knife sandwich. Beef was tender, and a good portion, but l was left wanting more of the chipotle flavor. They have a long bar area l would like to explore more. Will definitely go back to try more of their menu.

We stopped in after dinner at the old goat since we wanted some more drinks. We were seated immediately and served immediately with a smile. Everything came out super fast and our gentleman server was very friendly and cordial. The drinks were very tasty, blueberry spritz cider and my wife got the code draft. We split a strawberry cheesecake dessert and though I will admit it was probably the best cheesecake I've had in a really long time, it was $10 for the small slice so that seemed high. Food dishes that came out around us looked very intriguing and yummy so we said we'll definitely have to come back to try it. Fun atmosphere inside, looked like they were hosting a game night with a couple tables with groups playing different games. Has some outside seating as well although everyone has to come inside because of the storm that snuck up.

Great English style beers, Danny Whizbang ESB, The Manchester, and the Irish red some of my favorites

My husband and I have traveled to over 86 breweries in this state- and this spot found its way up to top 5 easily. The custom cocktails were delicious- great spirits and fresh ingredients. The cask beers? My husband said it was the smoothest IPA he's ever had in his life. The food? Some of the best brewery food I've ever had. The beer cheese was delicious. My husband got the Cuban and it was great.. and my naanarrito? No words.. delicious. Only thing was the loaded curry fries. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and kept our drinks filled at all times. If you are in the GR area, this place is a must stop.

This place is a gem! Cute atmosphere inside, a nice patio outside and great service. The Butter Chicken Naanrito was delicious!! I'm from AZ and loved finding a place that was filled with locals The only downfall was watching all the people lined up to get ice cream (and enjoying it) next door as I was too full to indulge!!

I'm not sure why I haven't written a review of Brass Ring before because I've been there loads of times! In my opinion, Brass Ring strives to be the heart of Alger Heights. The food and drinks are excellent, and their menu changes regularly. But my favorite part is the people--both staff and customers. It's hard to find a restaurant where you feel like family, but I feel that way at Brass Ring. They make everyone feel like a regular, and their frequent events and celebrations will have you coming back for more.

Great vibes and amazing food! We loved everything from cocktails to apps and dinner. Great little spot for a night out!

Working on our dog friendly breweries in Grand Rapids list, so we visited this UK-inspired brewery in Alger Heights neighborhood. Their patio is so cute and enclosed in flowers, making it a great environment. It helps block off the road traffic making it also feel private. On top of that, the beers and food were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by their homemade ranch as that's always hit or miss but I loved sipping my super crispy fries in it. Prices are reasonable about $15 for most things and you get great portion sizes with lots of yumminess. Our waiter was possibly the most positive person in the world. So nice and happy and bubbly; he was a joy! It was a great experience and we will definitely eat and drink here again with our dog. Parking is in back.

We love a date night at Brass Ring. The space is cozy but private and comfortable. Good vibes all around. The crowd is everything from family to friends to couples. The beer is nice and cold. I love how fresh and from scratch the food is. They really do serve the best balanced and creative spins on classic dishes. Service is always friendly and prompt. Definitely recommend.

    Soup of the Day

My husband and I reserved a shanty for our last date night out before our new baby arrives! It was perfect - warm enough inside without feeling like we were getting blasted with heaters. I got the Detroit City Root Beer and he enjoyed a Danny Whizbang. He started with the soup of the day, which was described kind of like a French onion made with their beer. He loved it! I got the pretzels with English mustard and they were tasty. For our mains I got the corned beef sandwich - delightful, not too fatty or greasy. He got the cheeseburger royale with caramelized onions. Both came with fries on the side. For dessert we split the peach and blood orange tart. It was good but could have used a scoop of ice cream or something to complement it. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely come back!

Excellent experience. One of the best breweries in "beer city" Grand Rapids. Father and son beer brewers/co-owners Chris and his son Mike Gibbons run this brewery in the Alger Heights neighborhood in SE Grand Rapids. They specialize in English-style pub ales and they have a rare Cask Marque distinction from the UK. The beer, the food, the overall ambiance, the workers, etc, everything here is superb. Must try: Liquid Spirit (7.3% porter) Blue Skies (6.5% pale ale) Fryz'licious app fries, beer cheese, bacon, jalapenos, honey sriracha, carmelized onions Burger Royale double 1/4lb patties, arugula, tomato, cheese, carmelized onions, bomb sauce

Luckily, I was able to snag a reservation for 6:45, so we found a few things to do nearby while we waited. Once we returned, we were seated upstairs, which I actually prefer. It's noticeably less crowded and quieter than the main floor, making for a more relaxed experience. The menu offers a great variety, and their draft list is especially impressive for beer lovers. This time, I ordered one of their meal deals with mac and cheese, along with pretzels and beer cheese. Portion-wise, it did feel a bit small, but for the price of the deal, it made sense. That said, the flavor was a bit underwhelming. The mac and cheese and beer cheese dip both lacked that rich, cheesy taste I was expecting. The mac and cheese also had quite a bit of topping/breading, and the sauce was fairly loose, almost soupy in consistency. Since this was my first time ordering it, I'm not sure if that's typical. Overall, it's still a great downtown spot that offers something for everyone. The service was prompt and helpful, which definitely added to the experience.

For drinks, I had the Dragon's Milk S'mores on tap and the S'moregasm cocktail. For such similar drinks they were wildly different. At 11% ABV the beer was quite strong and I really didn't taste the "s'more" flavor. Meanwhile, the cocktail was super sweet as expected. New Holland has a solid line of beers so you can't really go wrong, but I don't think the S'more flavors worked on tap. Everybody debates whether pineapple should be on pizza but how about mustard?! So I had to try the seasonal Chicken Cordon Bleu pizza and it was delicious! It had cut up fried chicken, ham, and different types of cheese along with scallions and of course mustard. Somehow, they made this work! Service was also great despite the crowds but my only real negative was that they sneak a credit card charge onto the bill and hide the notice at the bottom of the menu. That doesn't fee transparent when businesses do that but otherwise, we enjoyed our time at The Knickerbocker.

I could see after having a few beers these might have seemed good, but sober they were not it. Double cheese burger was smaller then I anticipated. Beef was well seasoned and had a good taste. Bun was generic. My real issue was the veggie on it. My lettuce had brown/black tips. My tomato was soggy. The pickles had no crunch to it, they were tough to bite through. Fries that came with the burger were also not my favorite. Thickness between wedge fried and steak fries, rough chopped every piece was different size so how could you cook them all consistently. No crisp to the fries, fairly greasy too. I wont be back.

The bartender was our server, and she was kind and helpful. When deciding between two pizzas, she pointed us toward the one with ranch after she learned I love ranch. There were so many flavors that I wanted to try, but I settled on the following for my flight: Lovely Day, Party Store, Wildflower, Super Juice Blood Orange, and Fiddle Stix. I couldn't pick a favorite between Lovely Day, Party Store, and Wildflower. The Super Juice flavor I picked was blood orange, but they had many other options that I would try if I lived there. There were two seats at the bar, both on either side of a young lady; so I asked if I could take one and she said yes! As it turned out, she was an off duty employee just having a beer. We chatted a bit while I ordered a flight. I love that the flight is not limited. You can have as many 2.5 ounce beers as you want! Each are priced separately. I perused the food menu and checked out the merch. Sadly they did not have the tshirt I liked in my size. They also sell beanies, glassware and hoodies. Oh, and beer to go! I enjoyed the two IPAs with Good Good being my fave, followed by IPA#1. The porter was good and so was the Kona brown. The fade was my least fave, and it pretty much tasted like Guinness, but I did drink it all. I have preferences but I also have values! Lol. I looked on City Built's website to see the menu before going there (of course) and found out that Los Mariscos De Pancho is now serving their food here which was a nice surprise since I have tried them at their Leonard location a few years back and enjoyed their food! I wish I could've tried some of the food that City Built had before since i had heard good things in the past but loved the combination of both City Built and Los Mariscos De Pancho! While browsing their website, I also found out that there would be open mic night on Thursdays and live music/ concerts on Monday nights which is always fun! We sat at the bar and we were pretty close to the musicians so it was kinda loud but my friend and I were still able to have our conversation. We came on a Thursday night around 6:30pm and it was already a steady amount of people there but as the night progressed the restaurant was more busy. Street parking wasn't too hard to find at this time or maybe we just got lucky.I believe the meters are free after 7pm! Walking in, there's bar seating, booth seating, high top table, coffee table seating, and bench style seating where you can sit yourself. There are 2 different entrances and in front of the main one there's patio seating! We opted to sit at the bar this time since most of the booths were full and it just happened to work out that way. We started off with drinks an alcoholic and non alcoholic version of the Agua De Jamaica and an order of the Garlic Butter Mussels. The my NA Agua De Jamaica was refreshing and much needed for the hot day. The mussels come in a serving of 6 or 12 and next time I would definitely order 12 right off the bat because we ended up ordering another round LOL. The sauce was so good I could drink it. The cucumbers were a nice refreshment/ palate cleanser from all that garlicky, buttery goodness. Just writing this review makes me want more right now! I also thought the mussels were a good size too so I will definitely be ordering those again. We also both ordered the Birria Ramen which came with Texas toast which I've never seen before. The portion size of the ramen was very filling since I was stuffed before our 2nd round of mussels came out (which took longer than anticipated to come out since we had to check to see if the order was put in). I also ordered the Birria Plate (4 birria tacos & consume) to go for my husband, which I should've ordered a bit earlier because of how long the mussels took. In the meantime, my friend wanted an expresso martini which they don't normally serve, but our amazing bartender made his own version with what he had and gave us both a cup to try. I don't even drink expresso martinis like that but the drink he made was delicious! I also heard that they have great beers too but I can't speak to that since I drink beers like that. Overall loved the vibes in here. They had different entertainment options like the live music and a few different board games to pick from. The ambiance had lots of natural light, and cute string lights, and overall a nice place to have dinner and drinks! Service was a bit on the slower side, maybe for this particular day, but everyone we interacted with was very friendly.
