Bud and Stanley's on 4 mile near Plainfield has an amazing lunch menu for $9.50 with many selections: meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, wet burrito, salads, goulash, BLT platter etc. The plates are slightly smaller which I think is a good idea to avoid waste. Our server Michelle was terrific! She took our orders right away and food came out in 10 minutes piping hot. She checked on us several times despite being really busy. Took a large group there awhile back which i made a reservation for ahead of time. The table was ready. But we were right in the sun and requested the shades to be pulled which too asking 2 different people before we almost melted. This place was awesome! It has such a nice small town vibe inside. When we went, it was all decorated for Christmas, including the giant mounted Moose that was dressed as Santa There's a bar as well as plenty of tables and booths. The booths are smaller which is actually quite nice for only two people. There are several tv's that had sports playing, and the bathrooms are right by the entrance. We got to seat ourselves, were helped and served promptly. The parking was kind of funky in the front, as there is a big hill when you enter the parking lot, but there is plenty of parking behind the building, and it is even terrain for walking in. Boyfriend had dental implants and can't eat hard foods. Ordered spaghetti with marinara sauce. He was informed you can't have that because it's a kids dinner. Service was absolutely excellent! Tastes were good, the fries were spot on! But a couple of things needed improvements for me. Such as the tiny portion of deep fried pickles served for a whole $9- maybe other restaurants have given me high expectations. Second area of improvement would come from the grilled chicken, it was just SO DRY. Thank goodness the mac and cheese was super ooey and gooey to help somewhat moisten the chicken breast. read more

Every now and then you think, "I've haven't been there in ages". That is what we were thinking when we pulled into the parking lot at Bud & Stanley's. Out of sight-out of mind best explains our absence as we are not usually in this part of Grand Rapids. We arrived for an early lunch and spent some time looking at the extensive menu. So many choices-so little room to put it all. The menu said the goulash was one of their best sellers-our server agreed so that is what my wife ordered. I'm still looking for the perfect, tasty rare-medium rare burger so I had to order a burger. My wife's totally enjoyed her goulash-her trademark response, "I'd order that again" was testimony that she really like her lunch. You don't see dishes like that on very many menus so that was a bonus in her mind. My burger was perfect. All It takes is a little bit of attention to detail to make a medium rare burger. This attention to detail is ignored by more restaurants than not. I harp on this often and when it comes out perfect, I'm happy! Bonus-meat wasn't just cooked properly-it was seasoned to a very nice flavor. Service was great. Our server was taking an order at a table next to ours and another server saw me finish my drink. She rushed over and asked me what she could bring me. You see that at upscale places, not a neighborhood pub. If you're looking for quick, cheap, and decent take-out - Bud & Stanley's is it. My partner and I both got burgers and fries. Taste was good, service was good, and orders were correct. Only issue was the food was a bit soggy, but that's expected when getting take-out. A few minutes in the air fryer and the fries were perfect! Just went here a bit ago while waiting for my car to finish in the shop. Extremely extensive choice of foods but sadly limited fish options. When I go out to eat I want some fish, but that's just a recommendation. I tried this tropical Caribbean chicken sandwich and added bacon, it was good but seemed like it needed something spicy there too. Our server was nice and attentive, but could've contoured our table a bit more. (Taking cups plates and trash when needed.) I am pretty sure Bud & Stanley's is a NE Grand Rapids institution. My aunt and uncle are regulars there so we met them for dinner one evening. Located off Plainfield and 4 Mile, it has a super cozy, neighborhood bar feel. Think Cheers the show (or even Cheers the bar up the road). Their menu is pretty basic bar food with burgers, sandwiches, wraps, baskets, salads, and burritos. I had heard good things about the wet burrito, so my boyfriend and I decided to split it. We also got an order of potato skins to start. The potato skins were very good and really loaded with toppings! Our server also brought out ranch and sour cream, which made them even more delicious. Our entrees came out shortly after we finished the potato skins, so the timing was great. I find it annoying when the starters come out and then your dinner arrives immediately afterwards! The burrito was very large and smothered in tons of sauce and cheese--exactly what I want in a wet burrito! This burrito comes with ground beef, refried beans, lettuce, and tomatoes inside. You can also get an all meat version for .99 more, or a half for $2 less. We went with the large size since we were splitting it. I loved this burrito. It was really flavorful and had a good ratio of meat to beans inside--I don't love a ton of refried beans in a wet burrito. The lettuce and tomatoes were a nice addition and weren't overly soggy. My only complaint about the burrito would be the salt level in the sauce. It was pretty dang salty! But I still ate my whole portion and I would get it again. Blood pressure who? Seriously though, if you have issues with sodium I would maybe ask for the sauce on the side or without it. I had a really nice time at this fun neighborhood joint and would definitely return in the future. Me and my parents went their yesterday and the sign said seat yourself, so we did and waited at the table about 15mins and no one came to serve us, so we thought about leaving and going somewhere else then they changed the sign to wait to be seated, we got up and stood there, then a girl came up to us and we told her that we were waiting at the table, then she told us we can sit back at the table and finally grabs menu for us and went to get a waitress to take our order. There's no reason we had to wait that long to be served, was very disappointed in that...the waitress was great and food was good.....I ordered the chicken wet burrito, it was good was just disappointed how small it was for the $14 or $15 price, if all the burritos are that small for that price I won't order it again, definitely not worth the money. read more
