Great sushi! I ordered via Uber Eats I had the sex on the beach roll, yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, and the Penn Hills roll. All were very good. My only issue is the the shrimp, they were not properly deveined in a couple pieces the sushi in the sex on the beach and penn hills rolls. The sex the beach roll has shrimp tempura AND spicy tuna inside the roll. Topped with avocado, tuna and salmon sashimi pieces. They added the spicy sauce on the side for me since I ordered takeout, and this was a surprisingly great idea! The Penn Hills Roll is deep fried with shrimp and it is fabulous! I would recommend this one to anyone that is a first timer with sushi. The yellowtail with jalapeño was also very good. The quality of the sushi was awesome! Nice, large pieces of fresh fish. Hmm, really not much to look at from the outside ... or the inside ... but the folks working here are incredibly friendly and the food is great. We think this is more a take-out place but we ate in; as we ate, more people came. The utensils are plastic and the food is served in take-out containers but it's delicious and inexpensive. We got our entrees, as pictured, but we also ordered a lunch portion of 10 of 10 red chicken curry. Although it was delicious, we've had far more spicy curry elsewhere. Wow, this is truly excellent food! Top 2 best restaurants in the area Penn Hills/Monroeville, maybe the best. If you are anywhere near it, come to Fun Asian Bistro! I was very pleasantly surprised with the prices, flavors, and portions. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls, a Philadelphia roll, and a Pittsburgh roll. My favorite roll is definitely the Pittsburgh roll. It is huge, heavy, and delicious! The sauce is somewhat sweet, but it complements the savoriness of the sushi perfectly. All the rolls were rolled expertly and came with 8 pieces. The Pittsburgh roll had a tasty, crispy breading. It is packed with deliciousness, and you can clearly taste the crab. It costs $11.50 here, but similar rolls cost about $16 elsewhere so it's a great deal! The Philadelphia roll was quite good as well. It had plenty of cream cheese, which tasted fresh. The avocado was extremely fresh as well, and it was cut uniformly! The salmon itself was amazing. Super tender, smoky, and all around delicious. Spring rolls were tasty and pretty cheap. You get 2 for $4. It's packed with vegetables and thin noodles. The outer shell is a bit thicker than the typical spring roll, but it's still crispy. The sauce has a good balance of spice and sweetness. Overall, I can't wait to return to the Fun Asian Bistro. The staff seemed friendly, the food is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable! First time trying this restaurant, and it'll be the last. I ordered the shrimp lo mein and a shrimp egg roll to go. The lady who helped me was very friendly. Food was ready when I got there, even though I was a few minutes early. The egg roll was good. It was pretty fat and stuffed. The lo mein, however, was a disappointment. First off, there was something on the top of it that I have no idea what it was. It looked like strips of beef, which would be odd on shrimp lo mein. Then I thought it was onion after I picked up it to examine it closer. But the onion in the lo mein was different & this had a peculiar hue to it. I don't know what it was, but I wasn't about to eat it to find out. This wasn't lo mein as I've been used to having. Onions were the only addition to the noodles besides the shrimp and noodles. As for the noodles, they seemed more like spaghetti noodles. And they were heavily coated with soy sauce. That's all I could taste. It was so strong, I couldn't eat it, even after trying to temper it down some with duck sauce poured onto it. I paid $9.50 for some spaghetti noodles drenched in soy sauce with some over-cooked shrimp thrown in (and not very many). I was really craving some lo mein. This was really disappointing. read more

This is the second time I've had Fun Asian Bistro. I was visiting my friend for the night and I feel like monroeville doesn't have that many great sushi options. On ubereats, this place was only available to us by pick up but that's fine. I'm kind of glad we picked it up because I got to see how absolutely shady this place looks on the outside. I think it can definitely throw people off but PLEASE do NOT judge a book by its cover and let outward appearances fool you. This sushi place rocks! My friend and I got a ton of rolls, we love sushi a lot. I could eat it multiple times a week. I can't tell you the exact rolls I got but I can tell you that everything tastes fresh and delicious. We always get tuna and salmon in the rolls we choose. Some of my favorite rolls included pepper tuna which we got and they do NOT skimp on the pepper. The sashimi tastes great, especially the salmon with its buttery texture. We got two special rolls that were packed full of fish and tasted lovely. We also ordered the crispy rice with tuna and I enjoyed that from taste to texture. The jalapeños were an added bonus. Trust me, you will not be left hungry. I picked up takeout from here the other night on my way home from my parents house. The menu is pretty extensive (they have Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food) so there's a little something for everyone. My husband and I ordered some apps (spicy edamame and crab Rangoon), my husband ordered the hot and sour soup, and we ordered a few sushi rolls too. When I called to place my order, I was told it would be ready in about 30 minutes, and it was. I really liked that the person taking my order repeated it back to me to make sure my order was correct. The establishment itself is currently only open for takeout. It's easy to find if putting the address into your GPS. Everything tasted really good. You may think the opposite from the restaurant's location or even it's parking lot but I promise you it's worth it! They had a huge menu and everything was reasonably priced. I got three rolls of sushi -- California and Philadelphia (always musts for me) and tried the Maryland, which is spicy crab, avocado and cream cheese -- it was my favorite of the 3! The shrimp egg roll was yummy too. They had everything packaged so neatly and supplied all the sauces I'd need! Unfortunately...the food was was mediocre. The noodles dishes had very, very few shrimp. The pad Thai was dry, tasteless and lacked sauce and peanuts. It was like peanut dust. Rangoon were tasty but in the triangle shape instead of bags so only the very center was edible-the corners were hard fried dough. We ate 1/2 of each piece and threw away the other halves. I don't think they were cooked improperly or overcooked. I think that's just their recipe. It was very disappointing. I had lots of leftovers (I LOVE leftovers) but just threw them away. I am here to also urge you like many others have said not to judge a book by its cover. The outside does look scary. However, the sushi is well-made and they seem to use high-quality ingredients. I ordered three rolls and some sashimi and was delighted. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The prices are fair. I honestly wish they were in another location so that they could flourish but I think that they probably do good with takeout and GrubHub and the lake. My only criticism is that when I came to pick up my food, the floor was super sticky and my shoes stuck to it. But it's OK because everything else looks clean. This restaurant is in an old looking building, very unassuming. If you just look at it from the street you might not want to stop. BUT you definitely should!!! It was awesome. It's a pretty small quiet place inside and staff was very friendly. I ordered a Thai iced tea to drink which was great. I saw a picture of the avocado salad on Yelp so I wanted to try it because I LOVE avocados, and wow it was delicious!! The avocado was perfectly ripe, half of it was sliced on top of a bed of lettuce and sweet ginger dressing and the other half was inside the avocado skin, diced and covered with a spicy sauce. I will seriously go back just for this dish alone! But my mom and I split the veggie hibachi which was delicious as well! She also ordered the crab rangoons and said they lived up to the hype. The miso soup was okay, but the avocado roll was inedible. The avocado was brown and tasted very bad. The sweet potato was hard and the tempura part was soggy. The lo mein was completely tasteless. There were no vegetables in the dish. The tofu was tasteless also. I was really hoping for a new asian place close to my house that I could frequent, and unfortunately, despite the other good reviews, I am not going to bother coming back here. Had a craving for Chinese and our go-to Chinese restaurant is now to-go only. Decided to come here based on many Yelp 5 star reviews. While not 5 stars in my view, Fun Asian Bistro is definitely worth a try. My wife and I shared some very tasty dishes. At the top of the list was the sushi and the Thai iced tea - especially the Thai iced tea. It was probably the best I ever had. The glass was enormous and the drink was perfect. The little dab of whipped cream on top didn't hurt! The egg roll was also very good. Not sure how to describe it - it had more of a "homemade" taste to it than is typical. Our entrees were also good. I got general Tso's. Chicken was nice and crispy. The sauce had more of a tang to it than I like, but that's just my personal preference. My wife got the Singapore rice noodles. Also good, but I thought the dish had a misplaced taste of chicken bullion cubes. Not sure if chicken bullion cubes are traditionally part of the dish, but they are at Fun Asian Bistro! My only complaint was the physical building. You enter the building next to a nice atrium area full of windows. Those windows allow every patron entering the building to see the boxes and other random supplies strewn about from floor to ceiling. Sorry, but that's not a good first impression. And the restaurant itself had a few nice decorations, but the tile floor came right out of the 1970's and really cheapened the decor. General Tso tasted slick and gummy. No one could eat the food. Our avocados sat aged and smelled. I called the restaurant only to have the stand-by the poor quality food. I have more respect for a restaurant that would scale back if they cannot afford food. Horrible experience. Inconsistent service and overall poor attitude. I was really a fan. Went in for a sit down lunch. It was 61 degrees in the restaurant. Brought our food in to go containers with a plastic fork. Then on the way out we saw a sign that said clean off your table and throw it in the trash. They need to stop dine in service. And it wasn't cheap! Never again. Stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere new to eat. We LOVED the food. The decor is nice and it is in an unassuming restaurant in penn hills. I believe it used to be a Japanese restaurant in the past. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps, shrimp tempura roll, the hi atchi with filet and shrimp and the pineapple chicken/scallop dish. It was all delicious and perfectly cooked. We also brought our own Bottle of wine as it is a BYOB. Very nice waiter and waitress who served us. We will definitely be back Second time here 9/8- we came back again - this time with the hubs in tow. My daughter and I got the same (filet/shrimp hibatchi combo and shrimp tempura roll) and DH got the broccoli and beef. Delish!
