I hope that this will be cathartic. Writing this review is the sole reason that I joined Yelp. My fiance bought my engagment ring at Fungs Jewelry, a cluttered counter in a jewelry mall on jeweler's row. To be fair, he should have thought twice before forking over $500 to such a retailer, but he's a trusting guy and the ring is lovely--and also, unfortunately, not the right size. Ms. Proprieter Fung told me that not only would it (1). cost $80 to be re-sized, and (2). have to be sent to Hong Kong, but (3). would need to be an entirely new ring--smaller--meaning FEWER diamonds, yet MORE money?, and (4). not be finished until the first week of March. Here it is, March 2nd, and I just got off of the phone with the Fungs' daughter who seemed confused and disoriented as I read off my receipt number. She said that they would have to call me back. As of right now, I might have to file a police report. Do not give them business--well, not if you expect to receive service with your purchase. read more

I drove from Milwaukee in search of an engagement ring shortly before the holidays. After looking at quite a few different diamonds and shops on Wabash, I ended up at Fung's jewelery. I immediately felt comfortable, and did not feel like they were forcing an upgraded diamond or trying to convince me to spend more money. Their price was fair and they even paid for shipping. I'm not a huge jewelry person, but I saw a ring on Etsy and I knew I had to get it. I saw that they have a store in Chicago, so I messaged them, and got in touch right away. The store is hidden away in the jewelry row on North Wabash, but I found it easily thanks to the other jewelers. I never write yelp reviews, but this one was well worth writing. Karen is a rock star. She is SOO sweet and goes above and beyond with her customer service. I purchased my wedding ring from her recently, which she completely customized the way I wanted. She was leaving for vacation about a week after I ordered it, so she made sure to get it made before she left. When I went to pick it up, there was a minor tweak I wanted to make it fit better with my engagement ring. Given the timeline of my wedding, she offered to open up her store a day earlier than she had planned after her vacation to make the adjustment for me. On top of that, when I went to pick up my ring the second time, it was pouring rain outside so I couldn't get over her to store until after it closed. It was the week of my wedding so she waited at the store and then came out to hand deliver the rings to me at my car. She even polished my engagement ring for me!! I will definitely be coming back to Fungs for jewelry in the future. Thanks Karen!! Also worth mentioning that there are multiple jewelers located in the same shop as Fungs. When I first walked in to browse for my ring, the reason I approached Fungs' stand was because Karen was literally the only one in the entire store that was friendly and inviting. The people at every other stand either looked disinterested and bored out of their minds or were too preoccupied on their phones to even notice that a customer had entered. We actually walked past and stopped to look at rings at 4-5 other stands first just because of where we entered, but we did not bother inquiring about any of their rings because of the attitudes of the people working them. I found Fungs through their etsy site and checked them out on yelp before stopping in. I went in because I really wanted two custom rings. One was very simple and the other was a little more complicated. They were very patient with me on the second ring as I had them recreate the 3d rendering and then requested to change it again after seeing the wax version! In the end, both rings came out beautifully and I would highly recommend working with them on any custom pieces. Ask about paying cash rather than credit... you might be able to save a few. read more

I found Fungs through Etsy. They had listed a ring that I thought would be a great wedding band to go with my engagement ring. Karen immediately replied to my questions and invited me in to try the ring on. When my finace and I went in there they were so helpful! Not only did they offer to customize one of their rings for me so that it found fit with my engagement band, but they offer size my ring for me free of charge! The work they did on my wedding band came out AMAZING and the price was also fantastic. They were so helpful and do amazing work. My husband and I love Karen and Fung's Jewelry! We discovered Fung's when we got engaged in December 2014. I really wanted a morganite stone with a rose gold band, and found some rings I liked on Karen's Etsy shop, Diamond Dove Jewelry. Then we realized she was based right here in Chicago, so we decided to go in person. I'm so glad we did, because she and her staff member, Stan, are both just genuine, nice people. We also found out my husband went to high school with Karen's daughter, so that was a cool connection. I picked out a solitaire cushion-cut morganite on a dainty and unique band, at a price that both of us (and we're both very frugal) found reasonable. Over the past year and a half, I have gotten so many compliments on my beautiful ring! I love it so much. Naturally, we decided to return to Fung's for our wedding rings. I chose a tiny rose gold band with pave diamonds, and he got a nice, understated white gold matte band. We just got married on June 25, and we both can't stop looking at our hands and arguing about whose ring is better! I'm so glad Fung's Jewelry could be a part of our wedding. One final note that makes them awesome: from time to time, I pop into the shop while I'm downtown, and Karen offers to give my ring a professional cleaning for free. I bought my fiancé's diamond and setting with Karen Fung earlier this year. Karen was great to work with. My fiance and I went to Fungs on a recommendation to look at diamonds and settings for an engagement ring. They found us the absolute perfect diamond and had the setting custom made to fit it. My fiance was specific about what she wanted, and they made it exactly as she desired. In fact, we were shocked at what an incredible job they did making her the exact ring that she wanted. After walking down Wabash, I ended up purchasing my engagement ring at Fungs Jewelry and don't regret it at all. I was working with Stan for months after my first visit, and he was very professional and not pushy. We e-mailed each other throughout the months and I finally went back in for a second visit. The second visit was excellent, as Stan made sure we got the best quality diamond and ring and still stayed within my budget that I proposed to him months ago. This was the first place that my boyfriend (now fiance) looked for engagement rings. Julie was amazing, she showed us rings without being pushy, and was really sweet. The selection was beautiful, and she even showed us some rings that she designed. We ended up going to other places to shop around, and ended up changing my tastes in rings. We decided since we had such a great experience here, that we would stop in to Fung's to see their selection in filigree rings. I found "my" engagement ring, and she was fantastic. For weeks, we would stop in just to look at it and she remembered us each time. When my fiance went in to purchase the ring, Julie was really attentive and went out of her way to find diamonds that would fit his requirements. She did not push him for the more expensive stones, and was open and honest about which ones were good. I am very happy with my ring, and will be getting our wedding bands here as well. I purchased my wedding band here and I love it! They have so much to choose from that you can see everything you want to see and make an educated choice. My fiancee was about done with me before we stumbled upon this place. I think we went to 6 jewelers on jewelers row (all referrals, fyi) before I finally felt comfortable talking about what I wanted with Jane at Fung's Jewelry. They never pushed the sale, she just wanted to make sure I was trying on what I wanted! And, the tiniest things are what can get a girl hung up on what band to choose and Jane sat with me for almost 2 hours helping me try on wedding bands. We purchased the stone and later that day, I changed my mind b/c I was online learning more about diamonds and decided that I wanted something else. She even made a few calls and picked up a few more stones to show me that were of high quality and was in my budget. We finally picked out our diamond GIA certified. She then sent out our setting that we picked out to be resized and the diamond out to be set, and it was done the same day! I couldnt believe it! We came back and she had us check the inscribed GIA serial number on our diamond to make sure it was the same one. She really took care of us and I couldnt be more pleased! Karen and Stan are the greatest. I was very skeptical of purchasing an engagement ring from Jeweler's row based on my first interaction with another jeweler in the area. Immediately, Karen and Stan were welcoming and not pushy. Stan took the lead and helped guide my decision on what to finally purchase as an engagement ring. I knew what I wanted in my head, and from that, Stan was able to pull different ring parts together to show me what it could look like. They built the ring to my specifications and met a price that I was not even expecting. These people are true professionals and their passion for their work shows when you work with them. I even brought my fiancé (she said yes :) ) in to meet Karen afterwards and show Karen the ring on her hand. We needed to get the ring insured and Stan even did a very last minute appraisal that I was able to submit to supplement the insurance policy. I would recommend Fung's Jewelry for anyone who has not yet found their preferred jeweler in Chicago. They are truly fantastic! Thank you! read more
