Bears, BEET FRIES, battlestar galactica. While Funkadelic is currently doing it's "goodbye tour," I had to give it a try before it was gone forever. If you are a fan of food trucks, you probably know this truck is among the best in Jax. The menu is incredibly simple, occasionally featuring new items but holding on to 5 or so staples. I chose the grilled cheese (shrimp added) and loved the weirdness of the flavor combo. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and thick (no popcorn shrimp here!) and the cheese was oozing out of the sandwich. We also tried the beet fries. An amazing and strange take on French fries, these were tender and crispy--and this is coming from someone who doesn't like beets. Their sauce was like heaven. I can't figure out what's in it (garlic....it was creamy...ugh!) but you could dip anything into it and LOVE IT. Loved the Goods bowl and Cheezer sandwiches. Would like to see an option for sandwich without a side to keep the cost down. But so far those options have blown me away. The fry on the royal reds is crispy and well seasoned. RRs never disappoint. Their food leans. Little in the sweet direction. We asked and they said it was probably due to the datil pepper jelly. Best fish tacos I've had so far in Florida! I added avocado and the pepper jam and chose the Mahi. All of the flavors together complimented very well and if you like "saucey" I recommend ordering it this way! My husband had the burger, which was a little overcooked (for his taste,) but he said it was still juicy and would've been his favorite burger ever if it had been a little more med rare/med. The view there while you eat is so serene, and we even had a nice wbreeze blowing in! We highly recommend this food truck! read more

Dare I say I may have found my favorite food truck? To be fair, I haven't managed to try them all yet, especially with new ones popping up every day, buy I'm loving Funkadelic. I actually planned to get a nice, healthy salad from tossgreen but when I saw that Funkadelic had ahi tuna on yesterday's menu, I had to see if they had it today. They had Ahi tuna poke (wrap or tacos) right at the top of the list and I couldn't resist! The tacos were packed full of flavor! There was coleslaw, seaweed, green onions, big chunks of avocado, and tons of fresh tuna sprinkled with sesame seeds in two warm tortillas. I ate the first one like a taco but made quite a mess so I ate the second with a fork. I also got a small order of their awesome fries and ranch dressing. Finally had a chance to try out Funkadelic at the intuition ale works gate river run after party. Two words: Funk Sauce. I would buy a pint of that stuff to pour on everything if I could. I was feeling breakfast so I opted for the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich - best one I've ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly and the bread had a great crunch. I am glad to see this truck back and I would say it is new and improved! In the past I thought the entrees were kind of heavy and never wanted to add fries to them, but now they have beet fries, which were fabulous! I really enjoyed them and the serving size was very bountiful. The beets were tender w/ a little spice kick and I really wish I added the goat cheese to them which is something I will not forget next time. You can also expect the same great fried shrimp sliders but now with an addition of bacon and avocado which you just can't beat! The portion was huge the food was tasty and I thought the price was right. Had a smaller portion been offered I might have taken it but I really enjoy this truck! read more

I've gotta be the only person that doesn't like beet fries. And I love beets. The "famous" beet fries were nasty as hell. It just wasn't for me. I guess someone on the paleo eating guide would find these a treat. But it just wasn't for me. And the dipping sauce just tasted like - eww two times. It just tasted sour? I'll stick with the Cajun fries but those weren't anything special either. The shrimp sliders were a saving grace. Shrimp, slaw, and a Hawaiian roll were the perfect pairing. The food is top notch, the people are friendly and knowledgeable and the location is great. I ordered their shrimp sliders today and then it just a burger. The hamburger is probably the worst hamburger I've had in 45 years of my life it just tasted like it was cooked on a dirty Grill I was very upset once I got home. I had a friend recommend this place to me so I was excited to try it even though I couldn't find anything I wanted to try besides this hamburger. I will probably give it another try because the person recommended this place is always giving me great recommendations. OMG... this food is so delicious that I am contemplating as I write this whether I am going to drive 30 miles to St. Augustine today fromto get some more of this deliciousness, mouth watering sumptuous food...did I say it is finger licking good. Sooooooo last night at a community event we were buying from several food trucks because A) it's important to support local businesses and B) just because we could not decide on just one truck. From this truck we choose the Panko Fried Lump Crab & Goat Cheese Sandwich, the sandwich had a very very generous portion of crabmeat (not imitation) it was a bit creamy with a little kick of sweetness. If all the greatest chefs came together and made a gourmet sandwich it would be this and I am very critical about my food. If this truck is in your area check them out, the food we purchased was delicious, the staff and owners are so friendly and engaging. The young women taking the orders told us how much she loved the salmon burger. We will certainly try and a few other items the next time we visit this truck. read more

The lump crab grilled cheese is the Bomb! Who knew lump crab could elevate a grilled cheese sandwich to High heavens? There's a pepper jelly, which is kind of sweet, a cream sauce that's creamy but has a kick to it and the onions that add extra layers of flavor. Best ever! read more

Seriously this was really a yummilicious dish and so honkin simple. Then there's the funk sauce for dipping that gives them a zing! Mark had that burger w/the egg on top his new passion since the rabbit. It was tasty, juicy and well cooked. We shared the tuna and poke nachos, which were good but I would have liked to see more fish and less fillers. I wasn't crazy about the nachos which were fried wanton wrappers which had great crunch but none of them were really flat so you couldn't use them like true nachos.
