We love Florida cracker, and this experience did not disappoint! We took our out-of-town guests here for lunch while we were walking around St Augustine. It was the perfect timing because it was not packed and we got a perfect table on their outdoor patio! The first time I ate here, it was on a weekend vacation to St. Augustine, coming up with Chops and Ufredo. It was one of many "unique" restaurants along the walkway in Old Town St. Augustine, and one I haven't eated at yet. Ergo, I voted for this place for dinner. Overall, it was okay. Firstly, the restaurant seems to have an ambiance of an open-air dive you'd see in Key West mixed in with the hacienda style best known in Spanish architecture. Ergo, a hybrid of styles that is distinctly Floridian. There was ample room for patrons to enjoy company and a bar for those who'd like some kind of spirit with their meals and/or apps. My crew and I sat at a table. Had the classic picnic table look and the chairs weren't that comfy, but they were functional. Food was satisfactory. I ordered the gator tail and conch fritters. I also had Minorcan soup with was the highlight dish for me. My friends had different styles of shrimp which they said were delicious too. For a $$ price tag of between $11 to $30, not bad at all. Where our initial visit shined positively in was service. Our servers were on par and admirable. Very friendly, kept our drinks filled, and even had some light conversation since we are technically tourists despite being Floridians. Compared to other restaurants along the Old St. Augustine town walkway, there are definitely better options for a higher price. But for the simple Floridian fare The Cracker Cafe serves at the price they offer it, you should surely stop by if you want a good meal on budget. The fried shrimp is a fresh and tasty as you'll find and the famous "pink sauce" to dip it in was incredible! Our server was so helpful and friendly. She's been working here 17 years! This review is for the staff we interacted with and the atmosphere and drinks, we did not have any food. But what I can say about the food is every plate we saw walk by it came back to the kitchen empty. During a girl's trip to St. Augustine FL we found ourselves doing tourist stuff and came across the FL Cracker Cafe getting ready to open. We bellied up to the bar and asked if they'd be playing the FL gators game. They were casting it from YouTube off their phone so we knew we'd get to watch it. Out bartender Anthony was great. On the ball and attentive and made it a lot of fun to hang out there for a couple three hours. The kitchen has an open concept we're you can see the chef and his passing food through the window to the servers. "Ross, ready!" We heard that a bunch of times and Ross was super nice too. Ambiance is laid back and relaxed. Husband had the black bean hummus and the kiddo and I split the gator tail, his first time!! Husband really like the flavor and citrus undertones. It's mixed well and the salted kettle chips that are homemade really take it to the next flavor level. The gator bites were served with their own marmalade sauce, tasted like a sweet chili, and a side of lemon. Gator is usually chewy but they tenderized it nicely. The breading was not overly seasoned and the lemon with the marmalade hit it perfect. Buffalo shrimp was great, but that's where it ended. Tried the fried green tomato BLT. Bit into a slimy piece of undercooked bacon. When I say undercooked, I mean almost raw!!! I showed the waitress and she told me that she would get me more bacon for my sandwich. She also stated that the kitchen was really busy and they were just trying to get people's food out. I said yeah, but this is bad, she agreed that it was nearly raw. Then the best part happened. My wife was done with her meal, as was surrounding diners that had came in after us. I was still sitting there waiting on cooked bacon. 20 - 25 mins later, my bacon arrived. Of course the rest of my sandwich is cold and soggy. I'm ate it anyway because I could not spare another hour waiting on a sandwich. It took over 2 hours for us to have lunch. I can butcher a pig and cook my own bacon quicker than this place can serve a sandwich. What a gem! This place is located right on St. George Street. Great area for outdoor dining but we didn't want to wait the 15 minutes to be seated there so opted for indoor dining. We also started with the honey Datil glazed shrimp and grits. Outstanding! Robbie brought some extra sauce for us that I ended up buying. For our entree we chose the catch of the day platter which was Red rum fish that I'd never heard of but Robbie explained it and we got it. Fantastic. We got it blackened and it came with two sides. Shrimp was seasoned and on a skewer and served atop the grits. The grits were okay. Not as creamy as I would have liked, and needed some salt. Shrimp was well-cooked and plentiful. I had a side of red beans and rice that I found way too dry and did not suit my tastes. My sister on the other hand loved them. All in all kind of an expensive dinner in a touristy area. We've been here in the past and had mixed experiences as well, so next time may just have to go off the beaten path a bit to find a new spot. read more

We were searching for the place to have dinner with our dog after the rain. Most of dog friendly places closed outside for the prior rain. The lady who was standing at this place's entrance talked to us they have a patio which allows dogs, we checked the menu and confirmed they have seafoods, this is how we discovered this cozy restaurant. The waitress who took care of us was amazing- she is very friendly to us and our dog. We asked a few questions about the menu and ordered. Steamed shrimp as appetizer, very delicious- The side slaw was fresh and light. I had a today's catch, which was mahi mahi when we went there. Cooked with some southern spice, I loved the dish. You can choose the way of cooking fish (fried, broiled, blackened etc), I chosen blackened. Today's catch was MP but it was only around $18. Reasonable prices for everything. I had a glass of pinot grigio which was nice for the hot day that it was. My husband wanted a particular beer but was told they were out so he ordered some other type... Not his most preferred but he drank it and said it was fine. We ordered some crab balls. They were pretty good actually. I enjoyed them. Flavorful, hot and fresh! That's where all the flavors ended, unfortunately. My clam strips lack any sort of flavors, the house made chips were semi burnt and I don't even know why they added bacon pieces to the coleslaw when you cannot absolutely taste it. I probably would have had better luck just ordering several appetizers. Looking over my husband's plate, the shrimp lacked any sort of luster and he made the same comment about the bacon in the coleslaw. We could both taste the celery seeds but no bacon flavor coming through. Would I recommend this place? Well, probably not if you want something flavorful but for drinks and apps, you might be okay. read more

We were craving soup while taking a evening trip to St. Augustine. Walked by and put our names down for a table. 45min wait due to it being a Friday night and thanksgiving break and Covid. Haha. We ordered a bowl of the minorcan clam chowder and regular clam chowder. Also added an order of conch fritter. The fritters were ok. I have yet to find amazing conch fritters like you get from the Bahamas from a street vendor. The Minorcan chowder is tomato based. I liked the soup but I think a bowl was too much. Eventually I got tired of the flavors. The classic chowder was good. No complaint on the service. We came here for a quick dinner before we went on a ghost tour. Service was pretty fast considering it was a Saturday night. I just ordered the Turkey Cobb Salad and it was pretty good. Definitely larger than I expected and big enough to share. It comes with a green dressing that lacked flavor IMO, so I asked for their Ranch and it was so much better. I enjoyed my boyfriend's fries and he said his meatloaf was just OK. My friend's Gator Tail looked burnt and unappealing so he didn't even finish them. It's a shame because gator tail can be so much tastier than what they offer here. I would have sent them back, but we didn't even bother. This is a good place to take the kids because they offer chicken tenders, french fries and fried cheese sticks on their menu which is what most kids go for nowadays.
