I had heard mixed reviews about this place from some locals. The line and wait out the door help me make my decision. The location is perfect if you ask me right on the water and part of the Flagler Pier. Outside at first gives you the appeal of an old shack with chalkboard messages scribbled by diners and those hanging at the bar.. Inside gives you that old Florida Fish Camp, with the modern day beach feel. Two bars here serving up good adult beverages, are located inside just past the hostess stand and also one on the patio over looking the ocean and pier. One side of the restaurant has some great views of the ocean and also downtown Flagler. I have dined here for Breakfast, and Dinner. Service has been very good every time whether breakfast or Dinner. Full Menu, Full Liquor bar! I have had the Shrimp and Grits which are cooked to perfection also I have had the Seafood Wrap. You can't miss with the Calamari appetizer! One of the best I think I have had and I eat a lot of calamari here in Florida. No Red sauce which I almost asked for since that's the norm but I will tell you the sauce that came with the calamari was top notch. Again several options that include Seafood on the menu. A little mixed on this one. I adore the food, and most the staff us pretty good, but depending on what's going on it can be hit or miss on service. First Friday is both a good time to meet people, and sit outside and hear the music without the cramped area of the park, but the stress affects the staff. Still, they are mostly nice to me and so the review is good. Hoping to go hang out at their chalkboard and go chalkboard art but I may have to move before I go. To them: Sorry guys! We've lived near Flagler beach for 5 years now. When we first moved here this was one of our first places we chose to eat at. The view of the water and location on the pier is unbeatable. However, it seems they have since raised their prices and the food just isn't as good. The gator bites are still top notch, but for the price you don't really get that much bang for your buck. Food took over 2 hours to come out when we asked we were given a rude we make everything fresh which is fine if they were busy ! They were not manager too busy flirting with all the little girls to care about his job not to mention his many cigarette breaks !! There's more to a restaurant than food. First, the location is critical. Um... Check. Right on the Flagler Beach pier. Not a mediocre view in the place, inside or out. Second, you have to have places for people to sit. For some reason, young people seem to think that if there's a big wait then it must be good food. There's also the factor of having good management with vision that knows they're going to be able to turn a good restaurant into a great restaurant and so they provide lots of seating. Check. Finally, the staff has to be friendly. Check. Smiles all around. That extra star overrides the average quality of the food. At least it wasn't over priced. I had the fish and shrimp. It was okay. My wife and dad split the mahi fish tacos. They were both pleased. View, seating, staff that likes their jobs. That's what really did it. read more

Well we were very pleasantly surprised when we sat down for dinner here at this restaurant on the water. The food was phenomenal and the service was great. Check out these pictures. I'm on weight watchers and felt very comfortable in eating what I ate. They were very accommodating! My husband of course is not on weight watchers because you can see what he's eating with fabulous yummy goodies. I have become a fan of this place. I've had breakfast at the Funky Pelican 4 times in the past month and each time it's been a consistently positive experience. Their pesto omelette is amazing, their pancakes are perfect, their bacon is done right and their grits are perfect- not watery and very creamy. From the hostess who was annoyed to have to leave the station to walk us to the table, to our server who seemed annoyed to be even taking our order. I'm so annoyed with this place it's unbelievable. Yes the view is amazing. You can get the exact view 5 feet left or right of the restaurant at the beach walk entrance for free. Let me just cut to the point. My husband and I really wanted tacos so what did we do? Ordered blackened shrimp tacos. What a freaking let down. It was basically frozen crap shrimp with blackening powder thrown on top then tossed on a terrible tasting tortilla. It had the same taste as bread when bread is going bad. I asked for pico on the side. It was on my taco. My plate was filled with juice from the tomato. So when your taco is full of juice and you take a bite guess what happens?? It's all falls apart!!!! I was able to eat the 9 small, measly, poor excuse for shrimp. I couldn't believe how much juice was on my plate I expected the server to at least take notice but no. I was starving like really hungry or else I would have sent it back. I paid $15 to eat a few shrimp!!! I think if you're making tacos no matter where it is the pico should ALWAYS be on the side.... we paid $30 for two people for crap. The shrimp wasn't even blackened like cmon!!! Let me show them a thing or two about shrimp tacos!! My husband and I agree we will never return as their food has really declined. Fix your act y'all. read more

Was always our favorite Ocean Front eatery. Then they decided to cut back on quality and quantity of the food they serve. Their fish tacos were best around, then they cut down to 2 on a plate from 3 and they lost all their flavor while keeping the price the same. The fish sandwich was fabulous with a large fillet covering the plate. Now the piece they served was more suited for a slider. It was all roll and lettuce. You saved a couple bucks Funky but you lost us as costumers for good. Poor business decisions. read more

She was pleasant and made the trip to the FUNKY PELICAN start off on the right foot. :) The server, Jeff, was very good as well. I had the SWIMMING Ruben Sandwich (Fish, instead of the Walking Ruben, Corned Beef). The sandwich was a good sized, presented well wtih their waffle fires. . .
