Called to get my cat in for a lion shave and they had an opening the same week. They were very flexible with the time when I called back a day later to adjust a half hour. They were very friendly and understanding about my grumpy old cat. We give him anti anxiety/ sedation meds before his appointment but he can still scratch and bite which she told us is what happened a bit. But Leslie did a great job, gave him a very nice cut you can tell she was very careful and caring. $100 for a lion cut. We will be back! read more

Thirteen years later, I'm still loving Fur and Feathers. Our beagle, June, spent many daycare days there in 2022-2023. As a young, active puppy, we didn't want to leave her home alone, and we wanted her to have plenty of interaction with other dogs. Not only is she exhausted when we pick her up, but the socialization has been incredible. Just like kids, dogs need socialization, and daycare at Fur and Feathers is perfect for that! I did deduct a star because I feel they've started to nickel-and-dime customers for extra services. Other pet resort includes amenities like webcams, themed party days, and photo opportunities as part of the price. I also wish they offered a subscription or bulk pre-purchase option at a discount. At nearly $500 a month for daycare, a small discount would have been appreciated. read more

Caution if you board your dogs at Fur & Feathers Pet Resort on Allen Road. There is an outbreak of kennel cough at their facility that they failed to disclose. Yesterday, I called to inform them that my dogs had contracted kennel cough during their stay on July 23-27. During that call, their employee, Austin, confirmed there was an outbreak at the time my dogs were boarded and stated he would inform the supervisor, who would return my call within the hour. I never received a call back. Today, after a vet appointment, I went to the facility in person. The supervisor claimed to have no knowledge of my phone call and denied that there was an outbreak during the time my dogs were there. This conflicting information, lack of communication, and failure to disclose critical health risks is unacceptable and demonstrates a serious lack of accountability. $150 vet bill Zero stars! read more

The fact that they don't clean brushes in between brushing dogs is unacceptable. I saw my dog being brushed with dirty brushes that had big clumps of other dog's hair in it as well as her ears being cleaned with a towel that was used to clean other dogs' ears. Disgusting. read more

Was charged for services not rendered. We presented for a grooming appointment at 1130am today. My daughter was asked if there was an appointment, she provided the last name and dog name - she was then welcomed and immediately taken to the back for a bath at the scheduled time. After bringing our dog back out, she was then told they "could not find" the reservation and stated we must have been mistaken since we did not have the name of the groomer. They charged us over $80 for a bath and nail trimming, stating there was a rush fee because there was no appointment. Why acknowledge her like they had the appointment noted? Why not verify before rendering services in the event there was any change to the services and/or costs? To clarify - an appointment was made by telephone on 12/11/2025 at 1122am (they say calls are recorded, but they refused to check), we spoke with the female who answered the call (without identifying herself) for approximately 3 minutes to discuss what to expect, what was needed to be brought, services that would be included in the cost and the cost to expect. Both my daughter and myself attempted to discuss with staff to clarify but were dismissed that it was our error and nothing could be done. My daughter showed on her phone the number she called and the duration of the call. When I followed by phone, the staff member said my daughter did not provide that information and must have been mistaken since she didn't know the groomers name whom she spoke with. I asked if calls are recorded, go look - he ignored my request. We were also told customers could not be in the bath or grooming area but my daughter was. Further, it seems to be improper form to being charged for a fee that was not communicated and/or discussed prior to and obtain customer agreement. Had it been brought to her attention that they could not locate her appointment, she would have had the option to choose the services offered (and the alleged rush fee) or left. She wasn't given a choice. I feel that my daughter was taken advantage of and find that disappointing and poor form. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss with Pam directly as this was not the way to address a customer while there or when attempting to get clarification on the phone with another staff member (who I had to ask for his name). read more

A few months ago, I boarded my two dogs at Fur & Feathers on Allen Road for an overnight stay. The admission criteria included required proof of current vaccinations. I provided the proof of vaccinations upon which my dogs were boarded. The next day, I picked them up during which I was given a bill to pay for a dose of vaccine given to my dogs after they had already received their vaccinations prior to the boarding. One staff member acknowledged that it was an oversight while the manager attempted her very best to blame shift contrary to the on file documented current vaccinations administered by a local veterinary office. Needless to say, but a cautionary tale, the malpractice of 1) failure to review the chart; 2) overdosing by two dogs; 3) the owner verbalizing uncertainty as to the potential risks/side effects warranted an escalation and filed complaint to the California State Department that oversees pet facilities. Pet owner: take heed before boarding with Fur and Feathers on Allen road in Bakersfield. read more

The staff seem nice enough, however, we left our dogs for four days and they seemed uncared for. I measured exactly enough food for each dog plus 1 extra cup just in case and when I picked up the dogs, the bags of their food were still over half full. Our dogs acted like they were starving. They also drank and drank and drank when we gave them water when we got home like they hadn't had enough water. I understand some dogs won't eat that much when they are boarding because of nerves, but they didn't mention anything to us and said everything went perfectly. Our dog's blankets and bed had to be thrown away as they were soaked in urine, which one of our dogs does have a nervous bladder but not more than a few drips when she has accidents and they told me they diapered her while she was there, which leads me to believe they weren't taken out often enough. And lastly, our dogs ended up with kennel cough. I will look for a house/dog sitter next time to make my life easier and to ensure my dogs are properly cared for. One last thing I would like to mention, they seem like they use to care about the animals so much more, they gave you a report card when you picked up your animal. read more

Thank you Pamela S., Obviously owner of Fur and Feathers for your reply. I'd like to say a couple of things directly to you. 1) I did not come up with the term "surgical scalpel" on my own...the groomer who called me about the incident used the term. I had absolutely no idea that groomers would use such a tool. I happen to agree with you that they are not surgeons and should never use such tools on wiggly or calm puppies. At the end of the day I don't care what tool was used, but I would think that "6 groomers and 5 bathers" would most definitely know how to use the tools provided, correctly. 2) My puppy was indeed matted. Which is exactly why I brought her to a groomer in the first place. But to say that she was severely matted is grossly over exaggerated! I was not there when my husband dropped her off but I'm quite sure he did not say it was her first timed being groomed, but either way, it should not matter! As groomers, if a dog has "coat neglect" then you call the owners and explain the injury that could occur if the grooming continues, and only then should you continue! But to keep my puppy ("in poor condition and with the severe mats") and use a sharp tool to cut under her mats and cut her thin, fragile skin is just wrong! All-in-all I do not appreciate you implying, several times, that I neglect my dog. There was no "unattended goop left in her eyes for an extended amount of time." She was a happy and carefree puppy with nought a booger inside of her eye! Now maybe you thought I was speaking about the tear discharge/buildup around her eyes, but I'm sure an experienced groomer such as yourself knows that it is completely normal for shih tzus to have discharge around their eyes. We constantly clean her eyes and within hours it is back. As this is a forum for reviews, I left mine and I stand by it. Remember... I would not have had to leave such a crappy review if your staff had done a great job. I do not go and leave terrible reviews that are unwarranted. Since you obviously check your Yelp reviews, you've no doubt seen several mentions of peoples dogs being injured at your facility. I've looked at the way you go back and leave these replies on your reviews and while I think it's great to thank people that leave 5 stars, I believe it is harshly unprofessional to attack your bad reviewers. So let me reiterate...if your staff would do their jobs, you would have only 5 star reviews. So maybe instead of trolling reviews, you should have some on the job training with your employees to make sure that these "few and far between" instances cease. read more

My dog stayed in boarding there for about 10 days and he lost his voice when I got him back. No one mentioned anything when I picked him up and was told he did well. When I called to ask if he was barking excessively, I was told they did not know which dogs were barking at night as they could not tell. His voice is back now, but to know that he was barking so much that he lost is voice and was not well monitored is not good. He will not return. read more

This business has an interesting way to schedule grooming. If you call on a specific day you get that groomer who works that day and their schedule. If you are looking for another day, then you have to call back on the day you are looking to catch the groomer who works that specific day. If you are a potential first time client for grooming there is no way to know this. I know this is very much like calling a hair salon because individuals book clients. I've just never encountered this with dog grooming. Now just have to set a reminder to call on day I want to get a groomer who could possibly accommodate that day of the week or find another groomer who books multiple days. read more

Been comin here for a few years. Today was my last trip. Took my lab for a simple nail trim, heard him yelping and walked in to see the two groomers jamming some kind of coagulant into his TWO nails that were bleeding profusely. He bled all the way home and now i have a shit ton of bloodstains on my upholstery. WTF!!! Not one but two nails??? My fur baby Dexter absolutely loves loves to go play with his fwends! Well, thats what we tell him. When we put his collar on he knows exactly where he's going. Dexter plays all day. This was my first time boarding here and the staff is amazing. Friendly and kind enough to put up with me coming everyday and sometimes twice a day. Other family members went for a visit as well. I will return for boarding if needed. The cat condo was spacious enough for my 3 cats and clean every time I went to visit. The hours are great and no extra up charges for feeding wet food. Best cut my pet has ever had here in bakersfield. I took my dog in to be groomed by Tommy. The cut looks AMAZING. Still fluffy but trimmed and tamed. I've taken my him to 3 groomers attempting to find a good one. Everytime my poor baby came back lethargic, shaking, scared, and with the crappiest grooming. I even asked one place for a trim and they took all of his hair off, and hes a fluffy maltipoo. Another place left him with a cut on his skin. When my pup came home he was his normal energetic self. Which leads me to belie ve that Tommy is awesome at making pets feels comfortable and treats them with care when grooming them. He doesnt pull at them like others do. He also listens when you tell him what kind of cut you want. I highly reccomend this place after the other 3 we've been too. read more

I was disappointed in the grooming my poodle received this last time he was there. He had been there several times before and only had a problem with some shaved areas on his body. Thought we had that taken care of, but this last time he was there he came home looking like someone other than a professional groomer cut his coat. Took my corgi here for grooming recently. As it is also a boarding place, they do ask for vaccination records...which is a good thing. Just know ahead of time. This was her first experience going to the groomer so I was concerned about them leaving her there in a kennel for a long time before or after her service. I needn't have worried, they called me two hours later to say she was done. Plus they were super friendly and good with her. She was squeaky clean, nails trimmed and ready to roll. My wife called and left voice mail all week (she called during business hours)and they never would pick up. I was in the area this morning, around 7:30 and asked the girl at the counter if I can make an appointment to bring in one of my dogs and she said the groomer would be in at 9AM and he would be the one to talk to. We dropped off our 14 month old Great Dane on the evening of the 18th of August and we picked her up yesterday at 1:00 pm. Our Penelope is super playful and sweet and always gets excited to see us and our boys. When we picked her up, Penelope seemed exhausted, sad, and a bit out of it. I truly wonder if they sedate dogs. I will never take her there again and I do not recommend anyone else to leave their pets there. You'd think places like this would have live cameras so owners can check on their animals. Penelope also has bumps on her neck. I wonder if they zapped her with something. Another thing is that she was very verbal, yet she has not made a sound. I'm very disappointed with this place. My husband is going to monitor her today and if she still seems out of it, we're going to take her to the vet. I feel like they physically harmed our Great Dane. read more
