Parking: big free lot outside. Always a plus! First impression: visually, the office is very outdated and old-looking. I was initially taken aback when I arrived, because I have never been to an office that looked like this before. I had pretty low expectations because of this. The chairs in the waiting room are ripped up on the bottoms, so the material is sagging down to the floor. Decor is minimal inside, and it is stuffy and has no natural light. Same for the exam rooms in the back. The technology (exam chair, moveable lights, etc) look like they are all older than me! Dentist: I was seen by Dr. Stanley Lin, D.D.S. Right from the beginning, he was extremely polite and personable. He easily built great rapport and was thorough with my exam and cleaning. I felt immediately at ease and the appointment went by quickly. I highly recommend seeing Dr. Lin, just know that the office is not the most visually appealing one!

Thirty days ago, I scheduled new patient appointments online for both my spouse and myself. I received an email confirmation at the time of booking, followed by an automated reminder shortly before the appointment date. When I arrived--on time--for the first of the two appointments, I was informed that I was not on the schedule at all. The receptionist initially asked whether I might be at the wrong location. I showed her the confirmation email from their own online booking system, at which point she acknowledged that their online scheduling system does not work. This is not disclosed anywhere on their website, and the system presents itself as fully functional: accepting appointments, sending confirmations, and issuing reminders, creating a reasonable expectation that the appointment has been properly recorded. While the receptionist was courteous and apologetic and did reschedule me, a more serious concern arose during intake. When intake questions began, I asked whether the forms I had already completed online, including extensive personal, insurance, and medical history information, were available in my chart. I was told no, because the website does not track or transmit that information to the office. At that point, I had to stop the process. The intake forms required the upload of significant amounts of personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI): data that is protected under both federal and Texas law. The staff could not tell me: where that information is stored, whether it was transmitted securely, who has access to it, or whether it is retained, audited, or properly safeguarded at all. Given these uncertainties, I formally requested that a manager and/or the organization's privacy officer contact me. When an organization invites patients to submit legally protected data through its systems, it has a legal obligation to know where that data resides and how it is protected. Failing to do so raises serious concerns about privacy compliance and patient trust. This review reflects concern, not hostility, and I am hoping the organization takes this feedback seriously, addresses the operational and privacy gaps, and demonstrates compliance with applicable law so this review can be updated accordingly.

Revised review: I was surprised today, after being a really…read moresatisfied dental patient of Dr. Michael Augustine DDS for a decade, to learn he does not allow service animals in his clinic. When asked why not, he replied, "I've never messed with it, there are all these people who claim their dogs are service animals when they really aren't." Dr. Augustine seemed totally ignorant of ADA regulations. I advised him to educate himself, fired him, and left. I was especially disappointed with Charlotte, his scheduler (who has invariably behaved professionally and with a smile in the past); she turned into a very poor version of herself... impatient, rude, argumentative & disrespectful... when I asked to speak with The Boss. An older, dark haired woman (waiting by the door to bring us back, and who I did not recognize), held my gaze with THE MOST hateful facial expression; if looks could kill, I'd be toast! Yeah, I find sheer ignorance of ADA regulations and resultant abuse of a patient's civil rights, to be less than attractive qualities in a dental practice.

He was 29 and the procedure for all 4 wisdom teeth (my husbands choice to do all 4 at once, dr Potter also gave him the option to do one side at one visit and the other side at a second visit) and it took about an hour. 1.5 hours later he was back at work with no pain or complications. Now my husband will only go to dr Potter for dental visits regardless of how far we move.

My general DDS when I inquired did not feel comfortable in conducting the service so I called around and Gateway Dental and Dr. Potter came through! I was able to call in and snag a 10:15am appointment with the ladies up front to assist with getting me seen. Polite and punctual, they were able to get me to fill out paper work, take me back where the dental assistant and I bonded over the cold weather, our husbands working night shifts at Samsung Austin with my wearing a SAS jacket and how they probably knew one another. She was able to remove the loose end and help me clean that straggler off, then Dr. Potter came in to smooth out the back so the rest of the wire would not poke through. Perfect visit, and done in less than 1 hour after paper work and waiting for Dr and assistants to all go through. The ladies conducting my insurance were diligent stating orthodontia wouldnt be OK but since I went through and did a small exam/buffering, ended up being OK. PS. They emphasize they are open Saturdays! It's a good thing I love my current DDS or the visit I had today may have swayed me over to their office. PPS. I didn't catch my dental assistant's name but she rocked and made my visit all the more great as a very first timer.
